Martinez must have a scout in the SPL? Caldwell, McCarthy, MacArthur and Sammon (if it goes through) all recruited in the last 18 months
Talking to Wigan atm according to SSN.
All but done according to Daniel McDonnell:
"All agreed on Conor Sammon to Wigan. Should be announced presently."

Great move for him, delighted and well deserved.
Great move.

3 1/2 year deal
Fantastic news. If he can bring his SPL form to the PL he'll have to be considered.
What a turnaround. From failing to hit a barndoor with a banjo at the Brandywell to the Prem in three seasons. I really wish him well and am looking forward to how he copes, but it's still totally preposterous. Well done big man.
What he lacks in natural ability he seems to make up for with hard graft.
Is he good enough for the Premiership? Might not be the best move for him if he's just going to sit on the bench.
I think Martinez will definitely give him a chance to impress. He's tried a few different players with Rodallega and none of them have been able to put the ball in the net, so there's definitely room for somebody to make their mark.
Rodallega is their best striker this season, with only 6 goals, the other two recognised strikers at the club (Di Santo and Mcmanaman) only have a goal between them.
On form alone, he should be worth a place on the bench
<EDIT>

needs a subscription though
Another Irish striker in the Premier League, can't complain. I hope it works out for him.
It's all points of view i suppose, but imagine being a Wigan fan tonight, Prem survival on a knife edge, last day of the window, last chance to buy some badly needed goals and here comes Connor Sammon from Kilmarnock, who might have been a Scunthorpe player last week.
Anyway, great to see him get the chance and as someone else said, at club who have shopped cleverly in Scotland of late. Here's to him scoring the goals to keep them up, and the baying for more Trapattoni blood for ignoring him even if he does.
Sammon Of College.
I can't say I have spent a lot of time watching him, but it dose seem pretty bizarre. It's not as if his form at Kilmarnock was hugely noteworthy. In fact, according to Wikipedia he has only scored 33 goals in his entire senior career (over 6 years), and about half of them were in the LOI (mostly for UCD). It's not like he's just a kid either. I can only assume there is a lot more to his game than goals, but it's pretty rare for a striker to get plucked from obscurity like this unless they score a barrel load.
Anyway despite my disbelief I also wish him well!
Fair point! I hadn't realised he'd scored that many this year, I just looked at his overall record with Kilmarnock.
That certainly suggests he's finally found his scoring form, and I assume that's what attracted Wigan. However, the flip side is it makes his record before the start of this season look incredibly bad! It seems he scored only 1 league goal in each of his first 2 SPL seasons, on the back of just 3 in his last LOI season. Still not convinced he's cut out for the Premiership!
It's actually 50 - the more detailed table seems to have been kept more up to date.

Sammon was never a huge goalscorer in the LOI, although part of that was because he was a member of a UCD team that created few chances and a disastrous Derry side. He took his time to start scoring at Kilmarnock but clearly he's got the knack now.
Delighted for the lad. Only seen him play a couple of times for UCD and to be honest he didn't look anything out of the ordinary. Certainly not a player destined for the Premiership. However I hope he goes on to become a regular and a full international. Don't know if he has represented Ireland at any level.
If I remember rightly, Kevin Doyle hadnt a significant number of goals to his name for Cork City either before he moved to Reading.
I thought he had around 20.
Maybe martinez knows more than we do he seems fairly cute in the transfer market.
Played u21 i think
Doyle had something like 20 in half a season with Cork before moving to Reading?
Sammo's played 21s and 23s (that silly LoI team).
I don't think he'll make much of an impact for Wigan this season. But the way he improved at Killie is I think - as mentioned before - down to his work rate and attitude. Wouldn't be surprised to see something like Wigan relegated and Sammo starting to knock them in in Division One for them.
In the meantime, just looking forward to what I think is only the fourth player to play for UCD and to play in the English top flight. :)
Daniel McDonnell: "Good addition to Conor Sammon story in today's Sun...Nigel Clough and a doctor turned up uninvited at Wigan's stadium to try and hijack move."

Interview with him on Wigan's site: http://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/page/Ne...281784,00.html
According to the preview on skysports.com, he can't play tonight: http://www.skysports.com/football/ma...284263,00.html

For Wigan, new signing Conor Sammon can not play against the Baggies after the Kilmarnock striker's arrival on transfer deadline day came too late to see him feature in the squad.
someone needs to have a word with the webmaster on fai.ie: http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=c...r-men&Itemid=8
So. Much. Fail.Quote:
Former UCD and Derry City striker Conor Sammon completed a transfer to Derby County from SPL side Kilmarnock.
Sammon's prolific run of 18 goals in 27 matches for Killie made him a transfer target for a number of clubs and he settled on a move to the English Championship club.
That's what happens when you put John Delaney in charge of a website.
Jaysus. At least Errortel usually corrects its mistakes within half a day or so. Well done to the FAI for achieving the impossible - lowering the bar for Irish soccer news sites.
Still not available to buy in fantasy football. Want to sell Anelka and buy Sammon. Not happy...
He's in now, priced at E5m. :D So out goes the injured Andy Carroll, in comes Sammo.
Robbie Keane's 4.8m, a better purchase IMO
mind you, I'm having my worst ever season in Fantasy Football, so probably best not to take my advice
Sammo's worth more than Robbie Keane?!
Love it.
