Ireland defeat Bangladesh in Belfast

They only just beat England so a great win for Ireland especially with such a large margin
They got their revenge, but a useful win all the same in the first match.
It's not often you see Australia all out for 88!

Predictions for the Ashes series: I'd say 3-1 Australia.
Did any one see the add on Sky for the Ashes? Botham dressed up as a Roman soldier giving the players also similarly attired a pep talk.?Cringe making.
What else would you expect? I used to like watching English cricket back in the day when C4 had it but Sky have ruined that good will.
Actually Sky cricket commentators aren't bad. They're a good mix. The only one I don't take to is Botham as he moans most of the time. They don't hype the sport like their football counter parts.
OF,
For me its sound down and TMS on in the background.
England, but just for this one.
I agree Botham a right sickener.others are bareable in fairness- gud first day for the aussies
I like SKY's cricket coverage, except for Botham whose little Englander tendencies become too prominent. I guess I just don't like him. The rest are great and I love how knowledgable and generally impartial they are. You can actually learn something from cricket commentators in general. I'm not sure I've ever learnt anything from a football commentator.
Anyway, day one very definitely to the aussies. Siddle was on fire and England gave up a lot of chances - it could have been worse for them.
I think it'll be an even enough series. Even many English feel that England's form has been overplayed and that the Aussies' bad form has been overplayed too.
That's an England win for all intents and purposes. They usually lose in Brisbane so they've avoided that, and the Aussies must be demoralised after the last 2 days.
Yep, the weakness of the Australian bowling was shown up...
Ryan Harris just got out for a king pair in the Ashes, and it was updated on wikipedia within.....maybe 2 minutes. England cruising to victory against the worst Australian bowling attack in about 20 years. (EDIT: Australia batting now of course, but their bowling is their main problem)
A few changes abound for Australia..four maybe. Katich out for the series, North hopeless, Bollinger and Siddle flat, Doherty....not very good
Sky's coverage is refreshing and honest...especially when Australian Summers are usually covered by channel9 on sky..with channel9 commentary. The worst commentary on the planet. Michael Slater, Ian Healy, Bill Lawry, Tony Greig, Ian Chappell, Mark Taylor..*shudder*
Does anyone remember the p1ss take of Ch9's cricket commentary from about 15 years ago? It was hilarious. I'll see if I can dig it up.
Resounding win for Aussies after England had already won the Ashes in the media (hard to blame them on this occasion) and after Aussies were 69-5 in their first innings.
As Alex Ferguson might say "Cricket, bloody hell".
Yes, sport is a great leveller. The English batting line up is always liable to a collapse when faced with hostile bowling on a bouncy track. An ashes win in Australia is never a cake walk and it's good that it's now game on. Also delighted that the smug Sir Ian Botham has egg on his chin.
Not sure it's done and dusted as the commentators seem to think. Bowl England out quickly and make 450 leaving England a session and a half to make 150. Could be fun.
Disappointed to see Bell going for a review when he edged the ball and the Australians claiming a catch that wasn't. Slippery slope for cricket.
Ah but it is OF,
England don't need the win, they only need to not lose. Even if in the scenario you envisage, they just bat out the time.
Looking good for England and with Collingwood announcing his retirement, hopefully that will open the door for Morgan.
On another note,
I'm of to India for the CWC and I'm looking for slogans for a flag- anyone got any ideas?
"You thought India has slums, ever been to Larne?" was an early runner, but it might be in bad taste
Might??
How about ceathair or sé
What about "Derry or Delhi, they'll both give you a belly!" ??
Looking forward to the World Cup. My wife better get used to watching cricket ;)
Sharing a house with a few Indians, shud be fun
Bangladesh will be very tough on home soil but if we could somehow manage to beat them on Friday then we'll give ourselves half a chance of getting out of the group, with wins most likely against West Indies (with us still very much the underdog) and the Netherlands (who we'd have to be expecting to beat). A defeat against Bangladesh and it's going to be all over for us in the first match. This new format is a joke by the way. We give out about the FAI but what the ICC get up to is a disgrace.
Think it's a little pessimistic. Bangladesh are a handy one-day side so would expect them to win at home. If we come a good 5th out of 6, then that's all we can expect, even on paper given our World ranking.
Beating the Windies comprehensively and not getting hammered in our other games would give us a chance of losing in the Quarters, probably.
Anyway, hope India win the whole thing.....
Yeah,
I can see us beating the Dutch and giving the Windies and hopefully England a run for their money.
As you say HS, the "top table" approach of the ICC is hard to take for the Associates but unfortunately the results for the likes of the Canadians and the Kenyians today provide firepower for those who believe that the weaker sides shouldn't be at the tournament. Therefore it is up to us and the Dutch as the foremost sides in this tier to put it up to the bigger sides.
For anyone that wants to watch the games, Diceys in Harcourt Street is showing the Bangladesh game from 8.30am. I'll be there for the start and then ducking in and out hopefully.
England having a bad day so far against the Dutch. Most entertaining following the updates as they're getting really annoyed.

They got home comfortably enough in the end but doesn't say much about their bowling attack.
Looking at the updates on the Ireland match and they were getting a pasting in the first few overs but have made a brilliant recovery. Looks like they'll give themselves a fighting chance at least.
Bangla 101/4....on Cricinfo.
Fingers crossed?
113/4 after 25 overs considering they were 51/0 after 6 overs that's a great recovery. Cric info update guy reckons 230 would be a tough chase on the pitch.
147/5 now, b. Dockrell c. White, partnership of 60 broken.
EDIT: 151/6 Dockrell caught White again. Ashraful gone, big wicket.
159/7 run out by White. Bangladesh falling apart
8 off that over. Would like to see Ireland bowl them out for less than 200 rather than let Bangladesh see out their 50 overs.
170/8 now, could get them out for less than 200.
