Shams have to beat pats now. The best thing about tonights results is we dont need to go to bohs and win. A win in our last home game will be enough. Cant see pats getting too many more points.
fair enough lads...maybe i was just giving him too much credit..that maybe he wasnt soley motivated by money and as a local lad some things might be more important..IF we were to stay up and IF IF IF we won the cup and had European football again i think there would be no better Club to be at..a few additions and a fully fit squad all season and we should be challenging at the other end of the table.
Magic win tonight, a huge boost going into the cup semi final now on Friday night. Cracking freek kick by Boco, i thought in the second half we battled very hard to take the 3 points and finished very strong. I thought we had a a far better shape about ourselves in the second half, Keane was superb and Boco, Cretaro and O'Grady all had good second halfs as well as most. If we play like that we will beat Waterford and go to the final, players are so close now.
Delighted..get that up you Peter Hutton!....again! Derry were **** poor, we did what had to be done, though Keane and Danny V were excellent, although we were poor down the left again.
Rommy for president of the world!:D
Anyone know the last time we won twice in one season at The Brandywell?
Shams are only part-time through a technicality. They train full time and are paid resonable wages (not crazy wages, like we've seen in the past). I've no doubt they could afford to offer Raf €1.5k a week. They are probably the most stable team in the league and €1500 a week would be good value for money if he scored as many goals next season as this.
Fantastic result, Well done to the BOR -all we need now is for the junkies and/or the krusties to fck up and we are safe - best to win our own games to be sure though!
lets now enjoy a cup game like it should be enjoyed - without the pressure of our league status hanging over us!
C'mon da BOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i wouldnt think graham barrett is on small money !!! definetly in the 1500 a week category or maybe more. and as for thinking we could challenge for the league i would love to see it but be realistic we have not got a huge budget and we are fighting relegation. it kills me to say it but we are a feeder club. we turn good players better and then big teams take them off us. look at hughes and faz situation in the past. remember its not that long ago the club tried to offload boco to derry to get the wages down !!!! unless we can fill the shrowgrounds every week will wont have the funds to challenge for the title.
Fantastic result lastnight, lets hope we can keep this run going into the Cup Semi. Hopefully Bohs should have too much for the Krusties away and maybe Derry might bounce back against Pats to make it even better on Friday!!
Yes, but that was when clubs like Drogheda and Bohs were overspending, those days are gone. If Raf leaves i think it will be about more than just money. There are only 2 financially sound clubs at the moment and neither of them will spend money they dont have, Sligo and Shams. Of those would would have to say Shams will be able to offer bigger wages.
this time last year i feared the team breaking up like so many successful teams in our past. this year i fear the same but its a bit different this time with so many of the bigger clubs in dire straits financially. If raf and peers leave we are half the team we currently are.
Alan Keane was superb last night- derry had not one worthwhile shot on goal in the 2nd half. Bocos free kick was from the very top drawer and will be a contender for goal of the month.
Great piece of comedy by raf as he went to take a quick free before boco scored and smiled up at the fans just to rub the cup defeat in.
I was a bit disappointed by the rovers support after the last few away games but in reflection it was probably mostly the dublin based fans that were missing.
Roll on friday night but dont get complacent, waterford will be hard to break down and despite a couple of bad league results recently , they will definitely raise their game for a cup semi final on tv. Lets rock the showgrounds with noise.
Would not be critical of the number of Sligo fans in Derry, at the end of a day is costs a few quid, petrol, food, match tickets and a glass or two of something to celebrate, which is what we have been doing a lot of lately.
We have had a fair bit of travelling with two matches a week and in my opinion we have the best fans in the country and I think we are going to have a lot to shout about before the end of the season. The BOR is in our veins, if you do not believe this then ask your quack to give you confirmation.
Come on you Reds.
great victory, derry were poor but we still had to go out and grind out the win. well done to all the players. the whole thing has changed and improved so much since the first half of the season. hopefully kelly will shake off the knock he picked up aswell before friday
i really think that next season, if we keep this group of players together and management i really think rovers can be in the top 3 or 4 in the league. we're 4 points off 5th now and with the start of the season we had no one could have thought that. a couple of signings in july made a big difference to our season, and another couple of good additions, along with keeping our own in the off season would be fantastic. i know theres obviously all the rumours regarding one player, but who knows he might change his mind if we win the cup and stay up. same with anyone else who might have left. im sure a few may go but hopefully the majority stay. especially raff, boco and peersy.
All Sligo Rovers fans are odd, but some are more odd than others.
The ones that sit amongst the home support when we are away being the oddest. They do this because altough they love Rovers they are a little bit embarrased by it. If Rovers are getting trounced they can pretend that they're not really with those losers,or if we've safely won the game, all stand up and clap. Kinda hedging your bets rather than nailing your colours to the wall from the start. We've got alot of these guys, i think its because we've been sh1t for so long they're afraid to stand up and say they're proud to be a Rovers fan. I couldnt give a toss what other people think, I'm proud to be a Rovers fan.
To be honest the only thing i will say is that with the Brandywell it's such a poor view from the away section, i would say some moved up a little bit for a better view, i am guessing. Good craic last night though, loved the Ventre dummy and the ball he sent into orbit late in the game :)
TBH redie 50% is tongue in cheek, 50% truthfully honest.
The first game in Tallaght was a good example. Of the fans that were lucky to be there most got involved in the occasion, atmosphere despite the result. But i know three guys who sat as close to the away fans as possible even though they didnt have too as not many people used the seats, then got up and left with about 20 minutes to go because we were getting slaughtered. If the score was the other way around would they have left, no they would have clapped the lads off the pitch.
Well 5 people (including yourself) thought it was worth posting about.
We need to show the players we are all behind them at away games. At the Bohs Cup game we were put into a small segregated section of the stand, everyone had to stand together and the atmosphere was great.
i cant stand when we dont all bunch up together at away games. really baffles me. the whole away support spread out over a few sections of a stand. we seen against pats, the whole away support bunched into one area and it was class, great atmosphere and everyone got involved in the singing
