Watched by who, the government? Thats some gamesmanship there. Make players paranoid, I like it. Or maybe he just wants them to THINK they are being watched.

any word if wolves signed that wexford lad after?
Trapattoni's going to be at the Bohemians - Galway game tonight according to the Indo: http://www.independent.ie/sport/socc...e-1865954.html

Murphy will be watched at Dalymount Park tonight by Irish team boss Giovanni Trapattoni when Bohs play Galway United.
The squad for the Cyprus game, and presumably the South Africa friendly, is being announced at 5. Don't know what to read into that, if anything.
I don't see a thread on him in the list so creating this one.
Kieran Westwood has pulled out with his back injury and Brian Murphy of Bohs has been called up as his replacement. Well deserved for Murph on the back of his 2nd LOI title and a nice boost for the league before he goes to England.
Do you have a link to this? Fantastic news for Murphy if it's true. He'll relish this.
Its on the Bohs site:

So does that mean brian murphy is first chioce back up to given as oppossed to joe murphy?
Id be worried about that lads in a big game like this. Pray to god nothing happens given.
Cue the LOI fans throwing the toys out of the pram there, but I dont think it needs to be explained.
I'd imagine Joe Murphy would be ahead of Brian. Brian's a good keeper, but not international standard so hopefully we dont need to use him. Made quite a few big mistakes this year, and didn't live up to his fantastic form of last season when he was more deserving of a call up.
I don't care who he is on his way to, the lad is not near ready for international football, thats not to say he isn't up to the standard, but in a big big game like this he would be like a rabbit caught in headlights. Same too for joe murphy.
I saw the games online in europe and i would say based on those performacnes he did quite well in both(possibly in no mans land for Red Bulls goal but apart from that solid) and deserves a call up but he is not ready for international football - yet at least. And, yes I think its great promotion for the LOI that he has got called up, but i also think it shows how badly we need shay given and how much of a loss he will be when he finishes if we dont find a good keeper in the next few years.
What age is murphy 25/26? He needs to be reaching the next level quite soon, though keepers have greater longevity than outfield players.
I hate the way i have to explain everything to the last detail on this site.
ya our back up is so inexpierenced for games like these. fingers crossed given will be grand for both. bit worrying after that.
Jayzus... Can you imagine if Given got booked in the first leg!!!
NO, because ive been posting long enough on this forum, that people should know ive made the pionts already. MOst people on this forum have been around for a couple of years.
I said before when watching the games i saw of him for bohs that he pulled off some incredible saves, and said he looked a class keeper. I also said that we don't have much back up in that department, and ive also said that a lot of players making the step up from LOI straight to(without playing a higher league first) International generally failed.
All in all it just seems I have to fully explain one sentence for it to be understood by a certain section, and i end up making the points again and again. Surely that must get annoying for people to read the same stuff again and again - its bad enough what i write once nevermind twice :D
Yes we badly need Shay Given as we do a number of other players. Murphy was next in line to get a call up so no need to make a song and dance about it. Anyone who has watched Murphy play know what he is capable of and what his limitations are - nobody has put forward his name as a starter instead of Given for example. You really didn't need to introduce the whole LOI thing - and jump to conclusions.
To make a point, I don't think St Ledger is ready for the international team. Id be worried about the lad in big games like this.
Cue the Championship fans throwing the toys out of the pram there, but I dont think it needs to be explained.
ANd it doesn't you are probably right, but in order to balance the team out more effectively with a good leader like dunne we need him there so we have oshea on the right. Exactly what you infered makes perfect sense, for one and all to understand without delving too deep.
I only said the last sentence because i knew people would come on and start saying !"what do you knwo about LOI, " "Barstooler" etc etc, which usually happens on here when i make a point about any LOI player.
Fair enough but a player should be judged on their individual qualities and not what club they play for or league they play in. Too many times in the past players have been overlooked simply because they are LOI players. Murphy deserves his chance but like you, I hope nothing happens to Given simply because he is far and way the best goalie available to us.
IFK i agree with ye...to an extent but that debate has been had enough on here and I dont want to get into it again. we just all agree that given cant get injured. Please god given dont get injured!
It's a positive step for Murphy, and for the LOI, that he was called up instead of going back to Kiely.
Having him in the setup bodes well for the future. However, he's unlikely to play in the play offs (barring injury and/or suspension), so let's just leave it at that?
OK henry ;)
Dropped the ball in to his own net the one time Trap came to watch him and when under pressure against Rovers in the first game in Tallaght gave away a second goal that was some of the worst bit of positioning from a keeper you'll ever see. You'd have to question his bottle, even the way he got so wound up by Dundalk in that Cup game that he loafed a Dundalk player after the final whistle. Hopefully Shay stays fit/injury free and we don't have to see how he stands up under the weight of an entire nation's expectations!Quote:
I'd actually agree with that although he came good again at the end of the season. Maybe not quite a few mistakes but certainly more then last year.
Paddy Kenny must be sick, you'd imagine he'd have been in line for a recall had he not been banned.

I see Roy must have been fairly impressed by him to.
Disagree, St Ledger (who is the only player in the starting eleven to play in the Championship) has looked very comfortable at International level and will only get better.
Showed away in Bulgaria, Cyprus away and Italy at home that he has the ability and character to do well in big important games.
As for Murphy, good luck to him, unless he is given a chance how will we know if he can make the step up.
