Heard for a very good source that daniel power is coming back to newcastle west afc cos he is not settling inside wit fairview rangers
its actually ridiculous how much of an effect gaa has on some clubs.the gaa have no consideration for the outcome of the local soccer club, and would never change a fixture to help the other code-but the soccer always suffers anyway.players are warned not to play soccer even if game is few days before gaa match so if your team is relying on 3 or 4 players who play both it can mess team up.i know,it happens all the time in my club and its going to affect us for another few weeks it looks like!
daniel power should give it a few months at the very least.two weeks into a season is no time to judge a team, club or league. a season in town would bring him on as player and then he could bring experience with him, whether its back to ncw, lisselton or even shannonside he joins!!!
You will see more teams trying to sign non gaa players in the future in this league.
Daniel should probably stay for the season, once he gets use to the lads and the system in town he will adapt much better. Having said that all the lads that go to town from the desmond league would be a welcome addition back, Daniel, Mark, Tossy, keith hartnett, declan nash colm enright etc... they would seriously increase the standard of the league
If players came the other way(from town) it would be interesting, but they probably wouldn't put up with what happens (gaa) at the start and end of the league. Dont get me wrong I played gaa myself for years and still love it.
i dont see many players (of good quality) leaving their clubs in town to come out to the desmond league to be honest.maybe things will change in the coming years but there's big gap in the overall standard in both leagues.thats not to say some of the top teams in desmond lge couldn't take on and beat some of the top teams from town,on their day.
those few players mentioned are big loss to their clubs and to the league too-
Absolutly, ray lynch, anthony russell would all heighten the profile of the league. I also think that 10 teams is too little, like town 12 would be better. Sometimes the desmond league is over before christmas. Teams who are safe and not involved in anything come april or may dont even bother finishing strong in the league to the detrement of teams chasing something in the league.......they can be all guilty of this
i dont see league being anywhere near over by christmas this year,i actually cant even predict who will win it,but i feel ncw have had their time and that the teams closest to them know this and will be capable of beating them this year. id even tip askeaton to get a point at home to them this sunday, maybe more!! can see most teams taking points off one another and hopefully it will be an exciting finish to the league next may.
Ye, I totally agree with you on that, this year will be very close thankfully, but if your club were chasing askeaton for the title in may, just say, and they had to play a very decent team who were mid table and out of all cups, you wouldn't hold your breath on the result going your way!!!
All i am saying is that if every team made it their business to fight until the end, despite their league position, it would make for a great season, not just those involved in the run in. e.g .. You dont mind playing Broadford at the start of the season, when gaa is on, but would hate to meet them around christmas........it shouldn't be a jekel and hyde situation.
In what way is he strange?
how can you decide someone is strange when you only met the man 2/3 weeks ago-when you would meet him it would be for training/matches,and its only for hour and a half or so. your hardly speaking with him for every minute when ye do play,so that hardly gives you a good standing to accuse a fella of being 'strange'.you will probably come back and say its your opinion but its not a very well founded one-
Daniel power is no more strange than the man on the moon.iv played soccer with him all my life and he is one of the nicest fellas.ye only know him about 3 weeks and met him about 10 times altogether.he is dedicated to playing soccer and would walk into the starting 11 on any team in this country.why judge someone that you dont even know
Lads,
Any views on the oscar traynor this year, players etc..., should be some decent players to choose from.
aodhagan behan is over the team this year.(shannonside manager)
well all the players who have left the league were big players for the oscar team.will be difficult to see any team put together going anywhere as near as team that won it in 2008-
i cant see the oscar traynor team being anywhere near the team that won it back in 2008...most of the team that year are gone to city teams...whoever he picks wont be as strong as last one..hopefully who evers picked willl do well
well i met a couple of the fairview players last night asked was power leaving they said they couldnt care if he did coz he will lose hes place when kelliher signs back in november
A few photos from my first match back for the new season - Askeaton v NCW.

Ray Foley had missed a penalty for Askeaton and Scott Hurley had scored for Newcastle West when I left near half time. Weather was terrible.
League hotting up now, shannonside drew 2 all away to carrig, still missing a few players they will shake up a few teams when they are at full strength. Abbeyfeale lost away to Broadford 1 nil, Think rathkeale hammered glin in rathkeale. Ncw rovers and ballingarry off. Weather disgusting everywhere. Behan is a decent manager he will get the best out of whatever panel he picks, could have a few surprises for everyone.......The lads are a loss but they have to drive on without them,.........nothing ventured nothing gained
askeaton 1-2 newcastle west afc....good evenly contested game between both sides in terrible weather conditions...scott hurley and tony quaid (peno) and maurice pulled one back with a header from a free kick....
rathkeale 6-1 glin rovers....dunno who scored but rathkeale afc destroyed glin rovers..
carrig celtic 2-2 shannonside...doyle and o connor for carrig and m.behan for shannonside..seanie king supposed to have missed a sitter for carrig in dying mins
broadford 1-0 abbeyfeale united.... steven o shaughnessy for braodford in the 20th min..
ncw rovers v ballingarry called off
glin must be in trouble this year, that was shocking result from yest especially when everyone was expecting them to push on from winning the cup last year.surprised to hear that abbey were defeated by broadford too but that looks like the way things will go in the league anyway this year!
carrig v shannonside was good game considering the brutal weather, shannonside were the better side in first half by long shot played some nice football but to be fair carrig they dug in after the break & could have taken all three pts by end of second half.
was glad to see ncw bring askeaton down a peg or two, there's been some talk coming out of them supposedly thinking they will win all around them in premier this year just because they won first two games, hopefully they can be brought down another peg next sunday when they meet shannonside!
Away to carrig is always a tough assignment. It will be very tough to predict week to week results this year. Newcastle will be happy with that win, Askeaton are a good side, should be a cracker between them and Shannonside next week. What about Broadford? nice result for them.
FAI and Munster junior draws today.
well anynews with power is he heading back to ncw
I couldn't see it happening????
heard nothing yet but he is still playing away with fairview...some of the fairview players and supporters dont like him for no reason....he scored yesterday in the 2-1 loss to janesboro
Anyone got the FAI draw for our area or a link to it ?
Yes was outstanding for fairview rangers against Janesboro the other day, settling in great daniel power is and will be a huge asset to fairview rangers as the season progresses and is liked by all players and supporters in the club who have already gotten to know him.
there are people here on this site just trying to unsettle things and stir things up.
