The FAI website DOES NOT say the match is in Nicosia. It says TBA = To be Announced. They have to notify us officially 8 weeks before the game where it is. They have played all their qualifiers in this group in Larnaca

FIFA do say Nicosia though

The city has to be confirmed 90 days beforehand. The kickoff time 60 days beforehand.
Although all previous group games have been in Larnaca this looks like it will be back in Nicosia.
Oh yes it does :D
Kick Off time is to be announced

Now whos blonde :D:D
Ercan airport is in Nicosia, only found out the other night, after contacing Turkish Airlines to see how one can get from Turkey to Cyprus as one of my daughters is intending doing a week in Turkey 1st. It is the only airport on the Island that accepts has flights from Turkey. You can fly from Istanbul for as little as €30 into Ercan.
I think we might both be right Green ;).
In the fixtures Section in the International Senior Section it states that the venue is TBA (to be announced)

I hadn't looked in that section of the new site.
My hair colour remains intact :D
A case of left hand and right hand etc ..........................
Spot on. Just check out the north Nicosia airport (if that is what it is), as a Northern Cypriot visa rules you out of entry into some other countries. When I crossed over by foot from south to north, I had a piece of paper stamped (instead of my passport), which had to be given back at the end of the day, when I returned.
Here's Nicosia International Airport. Here's Ercan - only flights are to and from Turkey.
Thanks for that, I've emailed the Cypriot Embassy and will post the reply. Looks dodgy Eircan alright.
We had originally boked with a group for a week in Cyprus, but it fell through so now looking at spending a few days in Istanbul on the way over as its our 3rd trip to Cyprus in a short time.
There is nothing dodgy about it but just that you'll have to cross an International border (albeit not a recognized one) to get to the game. The border crossing is in the middle of Nicosia with the stadium on the Greek side.
North Cyprus gets plenty of tourists albeit most stay on the coast rather than Nicosia.
Just allow plenty of time to get across and make sure the border will be open after the game.
It all does not get away from the fact that AidoM was wrong and as a result its his job to sort out a magic bus from Larnaca to Nicoisa.
chances are that i will have a bit of time off around the cyprus game. anyone know if you get a boat from athens or possibly bari to cyprus. i tried looking but didnt find anything
Try Olympic Airlines, plenty of direct flights daily Athens to Larnaca, from €39 ew plus taxes
Got out of going to a wedding the day before the match so just booked flights Thursday until Monday night Ryanair to Luton and Monarch from there. Thanks for all the suggestions in Sofia for getting out of going to the wedding!
Hells bells , I tell you most on this flight from Luton will be Irish Fans
Flights booked - Going 3rd to 6th - Costing €450 inc Apartment
Flying Ryanair to Luton - Monarch to Larnaca
Flying Home British Airways to Heatrow - Aer Lingus home
I must say I am enjoying looking up all the flights looking for the right combination to suit me. Thankfully I found it today, it's just that hotels in the Nicosia area are very expensive!
Leaving Thursday back Sunday, havn't ran it by the others yet...........ones in Greece the others in Tunisia.
You should reconsider staying in Nicosia, nothing really there apart from the game, the border wall and a big statue of Archbishop Mikarios . If you are flying to Larnaca, you would be better staying in Laranca, Ayia Napa, Protaras or even Limassol. There will be plenty of transport to and from the game from local bars in any of these places.
Looks like alot of people are booked on the Monarch flight out of Luton on the 3rd, has there been indication on the amount of Irish traveling?
Got stung with a schedule change into Frankfurt on the thursday by Aer Lingus. Have had to buy Lufthansa flights to make the flight to Larnaca.
Anybody else in this boat?
I won't be able to book anything till Sunday.......feck sake!
And yes its the same flight I just rang Aerlingus,
Nice of them to let me know , said they sent an email yesterday but i got nothing,
Anyhow thanks for you posting it up ;) we would of never been any the wiser.
We all got flights with Luftansa Dubin - Frankfurt and will make Cyprus Air to Larnica on the Thursday , Panic over but ended up paying out another €100
Ive not been to any away games in this campaign but from reading the various away game threads (I just cant help myself!) it would seem the days of booking early and using obscure routes to save costs has gone out the window. There seems to have been a huge number of flight cancellations / time changes etc.... for the various away games.
Perhaps its cheaper to wait these days......
Yes 8 of us were due to go with A Lingus to Frankfurt on Thurs morning at 0700 and then with Cyprus air to Larnaca Thur PM, now going Wed afternoon 1610 with A Lingus and doing an overnight in FRA.
No extra cost in chaging the A Lingus flight, got hotel in central Frankfurt beside train station for € 30 a head .
I intend heading to the match in Nicosia in September but obviously haven't booked anything yet. I have read thru the threads and gotten an idea of best way to get there but I would appreciate if someone could answer me the following questions.
The match kicks off at 9.30 local time, is it best to stay in Nicosia or base myself elsewhere, ie what is the nearest city/ town that I could get accomodation.
Is it best to fly out of London or is there a better easier city to fly out of. I plan heading over on the Friday and staying the week. I just need to know after the game where are most people heading to, are they staying in Nicosia or heading back to another city and if so how are they getting back to that city.
Any help I would appreciate it.
As far as I know, the vast majority of fans are basing themselves in Ayia Napa. The Irish pubs there run buses to and from the match on matchdays. It's approximately an hgour from Nic.
Staying in Nicosia is not advisable as there is little to do and it's not the nicest of places.
Not so sure about your best way to fly now.
We're heading thru Birmingham but since we booked those flights, they have rocketed up in price:p
Cheers, I think I have a basis of how to get there and get back. One final question is the best way to get from Larnaca to Ayia Napa and what is the distance? Think I will arrive on Friday at 8.30 into Larnaca so might take your advice and head to Ayia otherwise I will have to stay 2 nights in Larnaca. Is Larnaca any better than Nicosia.
Havn't booked myself yet but I am doing my research and finding things very expensive so far.
I'm using this crowd from Larnaca airport. http://www.acropolis-transport.com/rates.html
Works out 15 quid a head to Napa for the 4 of us which isn't too bad considering it would be triple the cost if the same journey was taken here...
Larnaca is nice but quiet and little to do. Very few fans if any will stay there.
