I'd totally agree with that, Liverpool are getting better and closer to United. Liverpool big problem since Rafa came in is not the amount of money he has spent, but who he has spent it on. The quality of a lot of the players he has bought have not been up to that standard. Somone told me he had signed somthing like 50 players in the space of 4 years ? and something similar have left the club.

Well he had Alonso and Gerrard in front of him. He is one dimenional when playing in a 2 man midfield and two strikers up front. To be fair to Benitez he is playing a system that suits all the players esp the spine of the team. He is a good player I am not slagging him but I prefer my midfielders to be a bit more creative than he is.

I'd pay money to watch Alonso just kick a ball against a wall. One of the most elegant players in the world.

He is playing very well this year. He had a poor season last season but fair play to him he has managed to get over the summer he had with the rumours over Barry etc. Fair play to him

It makes you wonder how the hell Benitez ever even considered Barry in the same class as Alonso really.
Thank God it didn't work out. I hope we tie Xabi to the club for life. After Stevie G and Carra he is our most important player.

He didn't have Alonso in front of him Alonso didn't play;) He had Lucas alongside him with Gerrard in front off Torres. Even if we did have Alonso they play as a pair;)

I would be very surprised if serious attempts are not made to sign Barry this summer by Liverpool. A large portion of whatever transfer money will be available will be splashed on him. Personally, I think it could be spent on other areas in the team but I suspect that the manager has his heart set on him.

Personally, Id have Alonso over Barry everytime. He has been Liverpool's player of the season and it was always a pleasure to watch him play in the flesh. Throughout the current season, he is exactly what a Liverpool player should be, both on and off the field.

Dont be surprised if it's Alonso out and Barry in this summer.

The point is still the same in that he had 2 midfielders ahead of him to create and for him to the defensive work.

I have to say that I was of a similar opinion as Neil about Javier before this season. I thought he was all work no technique, a Makelele if you like. But in the last few months I'm seeing him pass better than ever, aswell as having the odd pop at goal. I think Diego making him captain of Argentina has given him new confidence in himself and he is becoming more Viera like than Makelele. He is still young too and will only get better. I think he is now a must starter for us every game.
And he would get in the United team!! :p

In fairness Mascherano is not a creative midfielder but he brings other things to the team. Anyway the point is he plays in a 4-4-2 for Liverpool or if you want to get all technical a 4-4-1-1:D

No, not creative, but he is improving this side of his game. He and Alonso are the best midfield two in Europe at present.

I know several United fans who say the same, but he works very hard, chips in with a few goals and is incredibly unselfish. Plus he has an attitude and honesty that lady boy Ronaldo could only dream about. I'd rate Park.

He was a key part of the PSV (? one of the Dutch teams anyway) that Hiddink built. I remember him tearing Milan a new arsehole in the CL knockouts. He's not a key player for Man Utd, but it's not fair to write him off as a commercial buy.

yeah thats what i think too - i mean any time i see him play he is a stop gap, and when things get serious he is hauled off - and he is very weak (typical of asian players), he doesnt like the hard tackles

my logic is that centre backs are all about partnerships so Carragher and Vidic together would not work as there would be a lack of pace. As a result Carragher would be competing with Vidic and he is not as good as him.

Seconly Alonso would be competing with Scholes and Carrick and I do not think he is as good as either. He is a good player but not quite as good as Scholes or Carrick.

Liverpool like a man on speed this evening - irresistible going forward and all at a hundred miles an hour but when the buzz wears off, they are awful and a quivering mess.

It is probably over now - hard to see Man U drop enough points - however the big thing this evening is that Liverpool can afford to drop nothing else because Chelsea are within touching distance

Great entertainment but some dodgy defending

Arsenal are the best users of space I have seen in ages and I dont think I have ever seen as good a striker as Torres

have to give credit to liverpool all the same equalised very late once again to keep title hopes alive.. can still see utd dropping points a lot of tough games left yet and utd still not playing well ,, plus utd & chelsea still have to play arsenal who seem to be on a good run of form & also more of there first choice players due back from injury shortly :ball:

Some performance by Arshavin. His second was a cracker.

However, the league aint over by a long shot. Liverpool must win all their remaining games and the result last night will probably bring Chelsea back into the picture.

I am relieved at the thought that Liverpool can make the same mistakes in all of the remaining games and get away with it because none of the teams are good enough to take advantage.

Hull at the weekend will be a walkover. They are woeful and wouldnt beat the Liverpool academy team.

Arsenal didnt look too bothered last night, they were never really in the game. I suspect that they have more than one eye on the CL.

Arsenal should disguise Arshavin, make him look like Jack Wilshere or someone, and play him in the CL. Lovely to see a player so comfortable with both feet. I know it's a different standard but it's something I've not seen since Moravcik. Watching Luca Modric at the weekend, another small gifted "number 10", I was amazed at how totally one footed he is. Everything had to go on his right foot.

Torres is an amazing player.

dont be getting carried away with yourself ... liverpool have conceded 8 goals in last 2 games .. and they cannot afford any more mistakes in any remaining games hull may be woeful but they have nothing to lose ... as for academy pool team how many acadamey players have came through to first team in last year or 2 . good job arsenal were not to bothered last night as they might have tried to win game in stead of only drawing 4-4 .:p
