many heading to the game at 3?itll be a good test for us
Just seen on Bohs site we were beaten 3-0. Anyone at it able to post a report? Or teams?
Yeah, Bohs were much the stronger team as you'd expect they had all their big guns playing and they meant business. They were just back from a training camp and looked a good bit further on in their fitness. Missed the first goal but the last two were good long range strikes. We used 21 players including Stephen Gough who seems to be training with us again. It was a tough game on a heavy pitch and should do our lads good, they had do a lot of chasing after the ball. Ray Kenny played and looks in good nick still, played well. He was due to sign today apparently along with Jim Sheridan who came on as a sub. I have a team sheet here but I'm way too lazy to type out all the names. Mostly the same lads that played against Westport plus the few named above. Brian McCarthy came on for Bohs but one of our officials was saying he's still expected to be coming to us on loan according to Alan Gough.
Stephen Gough must be able to drive from Longford to Bray and back again with his eyes shut by this stage!!! :p We still need to get in another striker or two. Bit bare up top. And if Sheridan, Gough and McCarthy sign we have lots to play in the back four!!! So strikers are the main priority now!!!
Forgot to mention Adrian Murphy picked up a foot injury as well. Going for an x-ray today or on Monday. So definitely a striker or two needed, problem is the money I suppose.
you can never accuse me of being lazy longfordian...;)

glenn crowe scored from a lob for the first one.. sligoman would be delighted to see that 7 ex sligo rovers players were in the squad today..
did anyone see the new kit yet? the new home one reminds me of the old o neills jersey and the away one has yellow with a blue semi circle below the collar..
the jerseys didnt have flancare on them yet..
Good man Marty keeping me well informed from across the bigger pond!! Just need to get a striker or two signed now so we won't be left short.
Whats the story with McCarthy? Is he joining us on loan or staying with Bohs?
we were supposed to be playin shamrock rovers on tuesday night in flancare but our pitch is ruled out of action due to drainage... so instead we are playin sligo in ballinasloe...
its just in case people dont know.. it is a 7.30pm kickoff.. and was posted on the sligo forum earlier..
does anyone know directions to the ground???
Think its on the left hand side as you're heading for Galway. You'll see the gates to the pitch from the main road. Not fully sure now so better off checking google!!
I actually meant to put in my previous post that Martinho would be along later to post it up, reliable as ever. I could see you studying it from the other side of the ground. I thought the same about the new home jersey, very similar to the one we were wearing in Kenny's time. I'm sure it'll look better when the sponsor and crest are on it but it's a little cheap looking in my opinion. Uhlsport are a company most associated with keepers' gear so I wonder if Alan Gough had a contact there or maybe Jacko Smyth who was there today and would be very friendly with some of our committee?.
Jim Sheridan was woeful. He looks like a fat Luke Hardy. He should really just stick to the film directing.
I was just going to ask how Sheridan played for you? Looks like he hasn't changed then, I never seen him have a good game for us. How did Russo play? He used to have one great game and then go missing in the next. Likes to believe some of the hype around him but he's only a decent First Division player. You have 2 good ones in McCartney and Jinks though!!
It's hard to say how anyone looked really against a strong Bohs team but Russo didn't do an awful lot in his time on the field. Jinks showed some nice touches as did Craig Tone when he came on. As was said Sheridan looked way off full fitness. It's early days yet I suppose, we'll see how the other games go.
Anyone have any pics from the game?
mccartney was poor and thats been nice.. Looks pacey but did nothing with it.. Dont think we got anything from that game.. Bohs never broke a sweat all game.. To be expected from championship winning side at full strength and not making many changes til late in the game

Seen the line up for the Bray game yesterday and a Robert Douglas came on for them. Is that the same lad that played for us last season? Daire Doyle started and Lynch came on for them also.
im drivin up to the town game in ballinsloe tuesday nite if any of the regular foot crew that post onto here lookin for a lift send me a pm as I could do with some company!!;)
Thanks for the pics Ronnie B. We're stil wearing the umbro gear then?
The new kit isn't ready yet. It's uhlsport, a sample was on show in the clubhouse without crest or sponsor on it though. It's fairly basic, as Marty says quite like the O'Neills gear of years ago. I'm sure you'll see it in due course Pauro!.
What happened to Jako? Im a little gutted it's Uhlsport to be honest.
you will be even more gutted when you see the away gear.. Its like an 80's schoolboy kit.. Its some come down from umbro
Real sign of things to come I think !!! Going from a quailty international brand to a lesser, infearior and poorer quaility brand. Uhlsport - Great for keepers but a nightmare for the outfield players.
Back to the joggers nipple causing 80's material, aaaaggggghhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!
I thought the previous lowest we could go was ACS.
Some Uhlsport horrors.

All the home kit is missing is a Pat the Baker logo on the front....
Apparently the club were looking around to see which company would give them the best deal on gear for the team. It is some come down from Umbro but Umbro weren't doing us any favours we had to pay full whack for every single bit of gear we got from them last year for the team. I don't know what uhlsport are doing but it must be a better bet than the other companies because as far as I know Jako, O'Neills etc were contacted. Still I was pretty disappointed with the gear on show I have to say from a fan's point of view. It all comes down to us not having any money again I guess!.
TBH I couldn't give a rats ass how it looks. The results are all I care about not how nice a shirt is to look at.
We bet ye 3-0 tonight.
Yeah both teams played pretty much two different sides in both halves, with Sligo even using two different kits. What would be at a guess our subs and trialists played their Sligo counterparts in the first half and gave away two sloppy goals. Andy Bermingham gave away a penalty for the first after Chris Kelly needlessly gave the ball away and Bermingham again slipped for the second, not a great half from him unfortunately. In the second half we put on our stronger players and so did Sligo. It was a much faster and sharper half of football and we more than held our own pretty much for the whole half, Glynn hit the post and we were pressing for long spells without working the keeper too much in fairness. Sligo scored in the last minute or thereabouts to make it 3-0, a shot in off the post which Murphy almost got to.
There was a couple of trialists playing for us in the first half including a Latvian defender and an American striker, Martinho will provide details from his extensive notes tomorrow I'm sure!. Brian McCarthy played the second half for us as well so we must assume he's coming on loan. And yes, it was definitely him. Best for the Town on the night would be Ray Kenny who looks like he'll be a very important player for us and perhaps Liam Lynch who put in a hard working shift up front in the second half.
What was he like? He was with UCD on trial last week and although they though highly enough of him the figured centre back isn't a prioity position for them. The way I see it is with McCarthy coming in we're not really stuck for a CB with Kenny, Clarke and Bermingham there as well. I'd say another striker is a more urgent.
He looked alright, he's a big lad and won a few balls in the air and looked fairly decent positionally. He was playing right back for us for most of the first half. You'd have to see more of him to make a proper judgment but as you say we're not too badly off for defenders.
So he's no Wexler is what you're saying...? ;)
As if. Wex was the best American player in the club's history. Fact. Probably.
