The Lilywhites, I know I said I didnt want to go to Oriel anymore (and only coz we get such bad beatings there) but I still want Shels to be promoted in front of you.
As for our season, we have pretty much achieved what we set out to do at the start of the season. We are midtable(ish) and have the highest amount of points we have gotten in years. We kept within our budget, paid our players and have our new astro pitch going in early in the new year. While we would love to have been challenging for promotion with you guys, that was not the plan for this season as we have so many other things to achieve off the pitch so our aim was to be as competitive as we could be while doing these.
I am proud of the year we have had. We have beaten some of the best teams (unfortunately lost to some of the weaker teams) and have managed to keep our head above water. That my dear is a success in the year that was.
Tolka has deteriorated in the past few years...
Horrendous non-views at the Ballybough End for those in the first 10 rows.
If you watch the MNS highlights of when Kalonas scored against Rovers - there is a "shockwave" of celebration as those at the back saw the ball go in - which then transferred down to the front as people who were stood there had no clue what had happened and went on the reactions of those stood behind them.
Add to that the "Rivers of Urine" stand - aka the Riverside - which I think is only being held together by sheer will and vegetation at this stage
And finally - the floodlights - when they aren't swaying in the wind, they're either not working at all or being set on fire by over eager Rovers fans at Cup Finals... ;)
Funny, that has never happened in Limerick  :p
In fairness Shels are in trouble if they don't go up.Quote:
Shels are a great example of a club who bit the dust over financial irregularities, came down to the 1st division, regrouped and put out a competitive team without breaking the bank.
Financially prudent it aint.
Have you the info to back that up coz in fairness I havent heard anything about them in trouble!

Shels will report losses this season.
100k is they don't win the league
50K if they do.
Not fair eh
For poor Saturday night giggles I want Dundalk to go up :)
shels
Dundalk. This time last year I would have definitely disliked them more than Shels but that... that has changed.
Who cares why or how many people vote for whoever, its only a tintert poll. When (tempting fate?) we win tomorrow, Im sure this will be the last thing on your mind, Higgo..
I'd like Dundalk to go up. Don't want to go there next season and Shels is a handy away trip.
Dundalk.
That'd be two rival teams we wouldn't have to face next season then. ;) :p
you can take the man out of dundalk....has to be Dundalk for me.
didn't think they had the players at the beginning of the season but they're hanging in there and I really hope results go their way tonight. Come-on-ye-Lily-Whites.......
Why were my posts deleted? This forum is a ****in joke.
Dundalk. proper football town.
Dundalk.
Louth needs a team in the Premier next season. No use UCD getting relegated if just replacing with another Dublin team. With Shamrock Rovers leaving Tolka was hoping would not have to go their next season.
City fanzine no more plastic pitches can be restarted!
Congrats to Dundalk. Well done. All the best for next season
Delighted for Dundalk, I have relatives on the Carrick Rd and have been to Oriel a few times over the years, always enjoyed it.........
Good news for visiting fans next season, the railway bar which has been closed for a year or so (2 minute walk from oriel for those who dont know the area) is due to re-open any day, twice the size, restuarant etc, good timing by the owners !
Hopefully we can now change from thurs nights to either fri or sat, time to move on from that and to utilise the huge extra away support it would attract. No reason we cant as we have both bars up and running now
Why do Dundalk have their games on Thursday, as a matter of interest?
If Dundalk are to get a Premier licence they should be forced to play their games at the weekend & not then mid week nonsense.
The third bar will be opening in July will it?
I agree that we should definitely change to a Friday night or a Saturday night to accommodate away fans. Maybe a Saturday for teams that have to travel any distance with an agreement they do the same for our fixtures (much like we had with Cobh last season). I know we probably don't have much money due to the development of the training centre but i think we need to improve the away section to bring it up to premier division standards even if only some kind of temporary covering similar to the shed side.
