Dundalk owner reports DFC will be posting a profit for 2008 season, the 60k prize money will have helped - but we were on target to break even before this.
Whats the current financial state of play at the end of season with other clubs that were not as much in the spotlight as others 2008.
Are Shamrock Rovers in good shape ?
Also Sligo would appear to have finished in a strong financial position ?
UCD ?
Derry ?
Are these the only 4 premier clubs in 2008 to finish in break even/profit ?
This is where these things about clubs in profits is misleading. They are only basing it on this season and not accumalated debt from previous.
I know some clubs who are well in profit this season but because of existing past debt it is all being swallowed up by repayments on this.
Sligo are in the best shape of all the Premier clubs other than St Pats from what I know
We lost £80k for the Y.E 2007 and I would expect our Y.E 11/08 to be significantly worse.Quote:

One of the few things Hegarty seems to have learned in his time with Kenny was how to make similar demands for Hotels, even for our recent game in Drogheda when he knew well the club was fecked for money.
Cousins had a different take on this during his time at United. His cunning plan involved leaving early on the day of a match so the team could stop in a hotel, book in for two hours to sleep ahead of a game! Bizaare.

Guess they reckoned they got all they were going to get out of it for the past twenty years or so. Obviously due to the declining global economy companies are going to scale back unecessary expenditure. I think they will continue to sponsor the Super League. This has reminded of maybe other industries that maybe targetted. There's a famous fast food restaurant chain that sponsors accomodation and support of parents for patients at Crumlin Hospital for Sick Children. (They may have Golden Arches over the door.). Today supporters of a LoI of Ireland club from Dublin were decked out in their club strip including the Fast Food name on the back selling car fresheners to raise some money.
It will be a long hard road to prize that type of company away though.
Looks like its endgame for the Drogs after Players and Administrative Staff not paid today so Harps get to stay up is it.
They're not the first to go a week without paying players are they? I thought once they were paid up to date by the end of November they could get a licence.Quote:

In a further blow, it has been confirmed that Drogheda United's contracted players and staff will not be paid at all this week.
The club are currently in Examinership but, in contrast to rivals Cork City who went through the same process, have not attracted any public offers of help or investment at this stage.
Eight players remain under contract and they, along with the staff, received a text message on Thursday evening, which read: "To all players and staff. We are sorry to inform you that due to cash flow difficulties the club is unable to pay salaries this week."
Under current rules, the club will not be awarded a Premier Division Licence next season if all the players and staff are not paid monies due to them by the end of the month.
The squad were paid last week but only after threatening to go on strike for their final league game against St. Pat's if they were not; they subsequently lost 2-0.
Everyone keeps saying that Drogheda could be demoted if they don't settle up with their players- but doesn't that rule apply to both divisions?
If my understanding of the rules is correct they may not be eligible for a license for either division. I really hope they can sort themselves out but it certainly isn't looking good and i seriously doubt the club will survive examinership.
If you think thats bad, word is just breaking down on Suir side that WUFC is officially about to go under, there has been a few resignations within the MC and no money is available to pay the players from what they were promised earlier.
Thats the reason why Gareth Cronin left, he heard what was coming down the line, there now is a very strong possibilty there may not be a club around for the start of the 2009 season, its be coming for a while but now it looks as if its finally happened, sad day indeed for LOI football in Waterford :( .

I heard somewhere that the date for paying the players has gone back to 31st January. That's when the audited accounts have to be in and the auditor must certify that there is no money owing to players at that date. The accounts were initially supposed to be in for 30th November but that date was put back a couple of weeks ago.

but if all the clubs in the first div have to meet the same critira as the prem div ie pay outstanding wages then how is it fair to sent a club down to the first div as if its a punishment league.
if its wrong in the premier then its wrong in the first div

Upshot of this is that if Drogs go, Harps are still down and Shels would be up. Again, don't know if this is correct, and of course the rules may have been re-written in 2006. No, the financial year ends on the 30th November for every club. However, they have until the 31st January to submit the audited accounts to the FAI/Licensing Committee. If the money is outstanding to players/other clubs on 30th November, it might still take until February for the FAI/Licensing Committee to make the decision public, as they may not receive the audited accounts from every club until near the end of January.Quote:
