Are you jealous of all our Underage success? So you want to bring in the GAA rules only play for the parish. It’s not our fault if players from other clubs want to play for Celtic youths. All big clubs have players from different parts of the county and beyond playing for them. We have a progressive youth policy and judge a team on if they are good enough to win a connacht or national title. We have only one Ex Utd player playing at Celtic Danny Fallon and a good one he is. Sure wont you benefit from all he has leaned at Celtic in years ahead. As for U-20 team (Not all mentioned below would be involved with the U-20 squad) we would have 8 players who would have played for other clubs before joining Celtic (lot more than I taught): Josh Tierney started with our U-14 as did D. McNicholas When can we call them Celtic players. N. Walsh (U-15) S Wallce started with our U-17. Price & McNicholas came in at U-18, D. Fallon at U-16 & Mattie Hamilton (U-17). With regard to your suggestion that if Celtic only could use players who started with the club we could name the following team from season 07/08: GK: Robert Hennelly or Colm Gavin: Defenders: Aidan Walsh, Ger O’Boyle: Sean Reilly, Stevie Ryan, Fintan McHale, James Minogue, Darren Gavin, Ciaran Hopkins, Paul Walsh, Ger McDonagh, MF: Sean McHale, Pat Fitzgerald, Eoin Torpey, Niall O’Hara, Ioseph Reilly, Darragh Ainsworth, Shane Hynes, Kevin Curry, Rory Irwin: Strikers: Neil Douglas, Paul Curry, Russell Gibbons, Shane Smyth, Peter Dravins. Not to mention Stevie Gavin, Niall Gallagher, Barry McLoughlin, Declan & Alan Reilly as well as Ronan O’Boyle, David Joyce & Tom King. I didn’t even look at some of our B team squad. I would say most clubs would be happy to have this squad of players to pick from and you think they would struggle in the SL. Wishful thinking. Celtic U-12s have competed in 5 of the last 7 Connacht finals never mind all the Mayo titles won in the last ten years. We are an open club and welcome all who want to join no matter where they come from. By the way our U-12 (Mayo League & Cup winners) team will face Irelands top U-12 team Cherry orchard in Celtic tomorrow at 12 noon. Should be a cracker and a great opportunity to see the how the new Celtic stars of the future are shaping up. I hope they dont freeze.[/quote
Most of us were born in castlebar, Fitz has roots in Westport, as do the other guys I mentioned. Mr Neary played for S&F?
If your team was (and is) so good in the past why did your club have to go and sign former LOI players along with Mr Neary/Paul Fitz (his dad is from Westport by the way) to fight your battles for you?
Because your club were sickened at the fact that we won the Junior Cup, and used a win at all costs policy which failed miserably in both the Junior Cup and Connacht Cup
Even with your academy being set up, we have, in spite of our lack of facilities, produced far better quality players than yourselves in recent years.
As for moving on, the club plan to have one of the best grounds in the country soon, and I believe the youth structure is being improved from what I am being told.
