Would it not be more logical to assume that Uruguay were the original world champions? Because they were the original world champions, perhaps....

No, because that's not how this works. They were only the first winners of a competition designed to find the wrold champions; doesn't mean (apart from in the strictest sense) that no-one ever called a etam the world champions before, and England or Scotland would have been the obvious choice.

Although there is a similar line which does start from the 1930 World Cup Final. It merged with the other one in the 50s, and has obviously been the same ever since.
