You are a footballing genious my friend.
We were muck, no doubt about it. Galway bet us at playing disgusting football and i have no hard feelings for them because they were the bettter team on the day, no doubt. We didnt deserve the win and we got what we deserved.
We will now see the real character of the team in the coming games, will they step up to the plate after our last 2 defeats??
Have we ever won a game playing in the black and yellow strip?
Meredith had a good game? Were we watching the same game. He was woeful, was expectintg a lot more of him from the hype about him on this forum in the past week.
What the hell was Hughes doing out wide? Raf looked tired but I tell you what, that Gordan fella doesn't half have a turn of pace, looks a cracking prospect.
Looks like there will be another few Connacht derbies next season thank God, so see ye then - two teams in Connacht, and they're both in the Premier Division
A crushing week to say the least. But still only four points behind europe so maybe time to rid all the negativity and remember what was done prior to the last week. Its been a long time since we have had a chance to get into europe.we're better than galway....we all know that. And we're better supporters than what we showed Friday . No doubt Cook read the riot act Friday evening and Derry is always a difficult game but we can do it.
Whatever the players do we should be the best supporters in the country. theres no doubt in my mind about that. The abuse of manson by our fans last week in whatever form it came was a disgrace. Its the kind of thing Bohs do or the dublin clubs. Its an embarassment to Sligo Rovers. We always get on players backs way too easily.
i was'nt at the game and did'nt get a chance to read newspaper reports. i would suggest that tiredness had a part to play. was peers playing? usually when he is missing we get beat. rory is right we can still make europe starting neext week and beating derry. we owe them one. rory is also correct about the disgusting abuse that some fans are thrashing out to manson. this is a disgrace. the same fans were saying the same thing about faz not so long ago. manson deserves a chance he is young. leave him alon e and apologise to him. by the way some of those who have being posting abuse are being monitored and the club will weed them out very quickly. we know who you are. can anybody post the team that was in action fri night. thanks
We have one of the worst defensive records & concede far too many from set pieces - this has to be looked at. There seems to be a lack of understanding between the back 5 & not enough composure on the ball when we do get it. I think we lose too much with Hughsie not in the middle, I dont think he should be played out of position. Also stop 'lamping' it up to the front two from kickouts. Any thoughts ?
Brush has been doing this for weeks but it was really noticable on Friday night. Faz is terrible in the air and was never going to win any of the balls Brush booted up to him. It has to change, Seamie was screaming for the ball whenever Brush had a kick-out but it was still hoofed forward most of the time.
It's definitely something that has to change and we need to play it to feet in future, we create far more when it happens.
we find it easier to play against the teams that try their best to get the ball on the ground and play football. we get dragged into the oppsoistions long ball stuff when we play the lower teams, longford, galway, waterford etc...it suits us better when teams try to play around us. the ball gets booted up tp our defenders from the other team, and we just try to get it away a.s.a.p. first time, knocking it out for throws, or just straight back to them....if a team try to play football on the ground we can just intercept it on the ground and get the ball to our feet....which is how we want to play.
we've only lost one game since derry away, and before that we have to go back to the home game v drogheda back in may to find our last defeat, we drew against waterford in the replay, dosnt count as a defeat in my eyes. what crisis is everyone talking about? galway were bound to win at home this season at some stage, its not an easy place to go to. we played very well at times v waterford, scored two and should have had 2 or 3 more. we were average v galway, but you cant expect the team to be at their very best every single time they go out on the pitch. thats whats wrong with the club, anbd the fans, one or two dissapointing results and we start to get on the teams back....theres no need for it. are ye forgetting the results and performances over the last 2 months?
I am not being negative Feo. I think the team & Cook have been great in a difficult league. But if you want to push on to the level of top 3/4 then it is fair to ask why the high goal concesssion rate? I dont think we can afford to have Hughsie not in the middle - he needs to sign new contract or we will struggle next year.
Sligo were at home to Waterford on Tuesday but Galway United were AWAY to Drogs on Monday so both teams were similarly tired. Other than that, I wasn't at the game either :(
Relegation threatened teams usually perform better towards the end of a season which explains why Galway United, Waterford and Longford have upped the ante in recent weeks.
Mind you, I really fancied Sligo to reach the FAI Cup final this year. Just as well I didn't throw a tenner on it.
thought we collpsed once they scored. definitely agree that hughes is a way better player when playing in the centre. while merediths passing was shaky, i think that was just nerves. he is quick and looks like a good player. gordon looks promising too. dont think there is too much to worry about we were just a bit flat after the game on tuesday.
There wasn't too much between the teams in a poor match. We had occassions in the first half that if the final pass was the correct one we would have sneaked in for a goal. Again we concede from a set piece and from messy defending.
The concensus seems to be that Meredith had a bad game. I thought he looked quite promising. Yes I know some of his passing was poor, but I put a lot of that down to inexperience of playing with his fellow defenders. He soon learn that Jamie doesn't quite fancy receiving passes anywhere near his own box. Other than that I thought he did alright defensively.
I agree that Hughes is more valuable in the middle of the park, making forward runs, but ironicall I thought Boyd had his best game for us on Friday night. He looked neat and calm on the ball. However, boy did he tire towards the end of the game.
Our other new lad looks pacy, but a little light. What the hell happened when he got through one on one with the keeper? We all thought the ball was in the back of the net!
A win against Derry would really make up for this defeat. We really owe thoses gits one.
what odds? and typical of tight sligo people they didnt offer any. remember the westlife wedding and the poor charity got nothing in any of the envelopes. If your so sure give me 5/1
any of you sligo fans that wer at the game impressed with our new stand.
you are saying ye played alot of long balls forward but surely you could not complain about the playing the surface in terryland perfect for a passing game compared with the showgrounds bumpy surface
