Right, I want an iPhone, they're the dogs, but I've a few problems.
1 - I'm with Meteor pay as you go, and really don't fancy changing.
2 - I dunno where I can get an iPhone that I could put a Metoer sim card into.
3 - I'm a student so don't have 100's of euro to be throwing away.
So, my question is, is there anywhere on the internet that I can buy an iPhone for relatively cheap* that can take a Meteor sim card?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
What's jailbreak? Does it cost much? How do you do it?
Cheers Dunny. So can anyone recommend a place to buy one cheap? Obviously there's loads on the net that offer them to you for nothing but they're clearly dodgy.
why not give it a few months until the Nexus One comes out here?
Nexus One has slightly dodgy radios, like the Pre. Needs time to work out the bugs.
2nd hand values for iPhones are still fairly high. How much do you want to pay?
I wouldn't go any earlier than a 3G model as I'm not sure Meteor have Edge so your interweb browsing will be painful.
As to where you buy it, like anything else ebay is the best bet, but be very careful about feedback ratings and scams. 30 mins to an hour spent searching and you should be able to find out what the going price is.
Personally, if you really want one, I'd suck it up and port your number to Vodafone or O2 and get a legit one.
i thought the nexus hasn;'t lived up to the expectations.
what are hte benefits/pro's for getting a nexus as opposed to an iphone.
for me, the number one benefit is it's not an iPhone!
seriously though
you buy it unlocked
development is free
runs multiple apps simultaneously
what development, you mean java development.
IM not that nerdy tets i doubt i will create my own app to be honest.
the iphone has a huge amount of apps available and it plugs into itunes pretty easy(i actually dont konw i dont have one but from what others have told me). Will the nexus take off like the others and as many apps be developed for it? Or are these apps platform independent i.e. all built in java and will run on either OS therefore all apps currently written for Iphone will run/are supported on the nexus? Can it plug into itunes other/download thingies as easy?
What about the camera etc? Are the apps better? does google maps work any better for example on nexus given its a google phone and google app? Ive heard it was somewhat of a deflated launch and the idea is software not hardware.
I love my iPhone.
I find it great for browsing, I'm on O2 and the use of bitbuzz locations is an added bonus. I wil say that the coverage isn't great in some areas, but that I assume is an O2 issue rather than an Apple one.
The only bug I'd fix is, as tets points out, the inability to run multiple apps simultaneuosly.
As a radio [I got the Wunderradio app] and mp3 player it's very good.
It was supposed to be great if you used lots of Google cloud services (Gmail, Gcal etc. etc.) but feedback has been very mixed.
I'm not entirely sure selling your soul to Google rather than Apple is really much of a difference, but each to their own.
I'd say Google will keep improving the software so the gap should narrow pretty quickly.
Love the iphone. Best gadget ever. Fits my needs/wants absolutely perfectly
Apparently from end of March/April it will be available on vodafone and meteor too
Vodaphone have a placeholder on their website http://comingsoon.vodafone.ie/iphone
yeah, have it. All tennis and golf majors have excellent apps
Some good apps for Iphone or touch.
Jelly Sms or Eirtext, can send your web based texts using these.
Wunder radio connects to thousands of stations.
Air Video for streaming and transcoding from pc on wi fi.
Irish weather is a good free app.
Iscores for the latest football.
Some good games like Paperboy and Ghost n Goblins.
If you are jailbroken there is a free video recorder called Cycorder for those on 2g and 3g. Sb settings lets you toggle stuff on and off like edge, 3g or wifi without having to go into settings all the time.

Lads, just wondering if you are using a radio app and you don't have an internet connection available, are you using a lot of kb's?
Would like to listen to radio here at work but there is no internet connection available.
would it cost an arm and a leg to listen for a few hours in the afternoon? O2 charge 4.98 per mB for the first 4 mB's used while abroad. its free then up to 50MB's.
