Sorry I see no evidence that they have tried to sign any of these players. Its all paper talk.

Alex Ferguson does not identify potential transfer targets, usually until a bid has been made. He denied interest in Defoe but did not deny interest in Mascherano, Vieira, Senna and Torres. Interest was also declared in Gattuso- http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pa...&newsid=350455
All just speculation I am afraid. I prefer to deal in facts. From the quote there it does seem they were interested in Gattuso at one time but are now ruling it out due to Milan getting their punishment reduced.
I know, I can read. It proves that Ferguson wants to sign a player similar to Keane.
Maybe he has found that player, i.e. Carrick.
I don't see Carrick as a replacement for Keane-they are completely different players. I would be surprised if Ferguson thought differently. Also Man Utd declared their interest in Carrick around the beginning of June I believe. The previous article that I posted the link for would suggest that Ferguson would have been interested in signing Carrick and Gattuso.Quote:

It is also not uncommon for Clubs to declare their interest in many players so that if they get rejected at one they have backup and they have done the groundwork on the other.
not really, no offical bids have been made of any of the 3 mentioned players, all just linked with United.
Ronaldo - Scholes - Carrick - Giggs
That midfield doesn't impress me at all. Two ageing midfielders in Scholes and Giggs, both have been inconsistant and injury prone in recent seasons. Ronaldo is hot and cold and too unpredictable (not to mention a diving cheating pr!ck). Carrick is tidy, but hugely over-rated. He's no better than a Scott Parker/Jamie Redknapp. I don't think the other clubs at the top are going to be shaking in their boots. No chance of winning the CL with that midfield either. Signing Viera would be a huge step. Looks like he's off the Inter though...
United admitted interest in Vieira, Senna has confirmed that United have made an inquiry about him.Quote:

He admitted that his eyesight is not 100% so that could affect his performance. However he did manage to score 2 goals against Celtic, albeit a pre-season friendly. Playing 4-3-3 with Ronaldo and Giggs/Park supporting Rooney is another option with Carrick, Scholes, other in CM(hope to God not Fletch/O'Shea).Quote:
