It appears that Celtic just turned down an offer of 3M for Petrov from Fulham. That's good business on their part. The market, however, suggests that Petrov is no better than a mid-level Premiership midfielder.
this has nothing to do with stan petrov or your opinion of him, its the typical raised on premiership barstooler argument that 'scottish football is crap'.
ignore the fact that a country of 5m has 2 g14 clubs, won 5 euro trophies, has two clubs in the top 20 welthiest clubs in the world list (2 more than france), have a rep in the CL and Celtic in particular have some serious footballers, once scotland is mentioned, revert to semi racist name calling.
as has been said before a midfield with mcgeady, thompson, lennon, keane, nakamura, agathe, pearson, wallace and maloney to choose from is as good as any bar chelsea and murderpool in the EPL.
bear in mind as roma also had a bid for petrov turned down a few seasons ago
What do you mean by that? :) How does the market suggest anything?Quote:

What has this got to do with Kilbane anyway? Sutton has not gone to Everton.
It was a non-story from the beginning.Quote:

It helps that Scotland is connected to one of the most open and economically successful countries on the planet. It's estimated that there are over 100m Nigerians but they don't have much of a domestic club scene as the country suffers from dire poverty. They have more pressing needs to attend to. Celtic are in a country where people can afford to spend money (and have the liesure time) on tickets, tv and products advertised at the stadium and on tv. This allows Celtic to sell more of their product and expand their business. This then allows them to purchase players from outside of Scotland (last time I checked, Petrov isn't Scottish). So your argument about a "country of 5 million" is utterly useless unless it is put into context. Celtic (and Scotland) benefit from a well organized league (hello EL!) and the fact that they are based in a (relatively) extremely wealthy country.
That's your opinion. Celtic's performance in the Champions League suggests that you are wrong.Quote:

And please, calling people "racist" just because they critique Celtic is pathetic.
Livehead, do you actually read a post before you reply to it, it helps with understanding content.Quote:

fergie, you brought up the tiresome scot football bashing in a thread about kevin kilbane and whether he would make the celtic midfield.
all discussions (in this instance petrov) about the merits of a scottish based player end up being hijaked by goons whose only contribution seems to be 'well if he plays in scotland he must be crap'. its banal and boring, and yes, smacks a little bit of an anglo centric racist argument that the colonies are useless at everything.Quote:

And no, it's no racist to suggest that the Scottish league is weak or that Celtic are maginal team. It's an opinion based on a common sense understanding of the game.
Well judging by Celtics performance yesterday, Kilbane would have no problems getting his place and that does not say much.
On yesterday's performance Bobby Robson would make the Celtic team.Quote:

2:
unlike the EPL, serie a, la liga etc etc. name me one elite leage in europe that there are more than 3 genuine contenders in ant given year. this happens in every leage, but the divide is most permanent in scotland and holland.Quote:
