Big match for us tonight. Always a hard place for us to go. I'll take a one nil win off gaffneys arse in the 90th minute
Sligo 1 up already,they’ve started well ….
Sligo 2 up ! Cork should start getting ready for the First Division watching this so far,Waterford will be looking over their shoulder also…
Rovers gone off the boil a little since they were beaten in the Dublin Derby.
Did anyone notice the ref doing the keeper countdown last night? Didn't notice it once in the Brandywell.
Deary me Lomboto...
On last night, wasn't the worst 0-0 Pats have had this season (many to choose from) but anything other than a win at the moment is a poor result given the current run.
You can see the lack of confidence radiating throughout the team game-by-game. We're often having good spells but failing to capatalise on them through poor decision making in the final third, either down to a dearth of quality or confidence, or both. Didn't help that Power appeared to be onside for his disallowed goal, but these decisions happen.
That was an enjoyable game tonight. Some decent goals, plenty of physicality. The ref, Paul McLaughlin, helped let it flow.
Even less confident now that we've to go there next week.
Jack Byrne diving at the end was poor, glad to see it caught out. I presume certain fans will be equally as condemnatory tonight as they were after Patrick McEleney last year in the Brandywell.
Agree very good game and great come back by us …. Although Sligo missed a sitter laid on by Grace late on …. Sligo looked very good and one could easily see why they’re on a decent run.
PS Jack B tried to put into action that diving lesson he received last season in the Brandy but failed
Wouldnt disagree with that , Treaty on top early on but most of possession going nowhere but backwards and sideways given the way midfielders like Lynch was passing the ball,Devitt took the goal well off the setpiece ,thought the sending off harsh from where i sat. After that Brennan in midfield ran the show and Ucd certainly deserved their goal.We will probably scrape into playoffs , not that Tommy Barrett will be bothered as he has previously said we have no business going up.
Derry's year! Looking like a championship side!
Jack Byrne seem to be giving out to the ref at full-time in the Sligo game. Did he really believe his dive was that good? Looking at the table, Shamrocks goal difference much better than Derry, so you would still have them as big favorites for the title.
I had this in my head long before tonight but after watching that Sligo game I think Cork are screwed. I know Sligo blew a 2-0 lead but I still saw enough out of them that I think they'll pick up points against teams that Cork won't. They just have a lot of players who have played this league before and have enough quality in them, and they play like they really want it too. Cork are taking chances on lads the same way Dundalk were last season, and we know how that went. They don't look like they've the same fight Sligo have
I even think Sligo could catch Waterford if that game in Derry is a sign of things to come, they're absolutely not safe yet
Nice goal on Friday will definitely boost his confidence and maybe turning point of his season .
Our of position on the wing and Imo that's not his natural poz but he's a good player and adds a lot to the side,(i.e -you'd miss him if he f'dk off) and still raw talent for his age
I see similar, from watching the first two drawn matches against Shels this season Cork did not look to be a terrible team I would have rated Cork with a chance at 8th or 9th, it was a completely different story on Friday at Tolka that Cork team did not look much better than Harps (2022), UCD (2023) and Dundalk (2024) they can be relieved they were not up against Shamrock Rovers or Derry on Friday things may have got nasty against one of those teams
Maybe the additions of Odumosu, Kelleher, Feely will tighten them up at the back but it looks to me like other relegated teams they are suffering from the potentially fatal mix of losing a couple of their best players mid-season, some injuries, some past it players, some underwhelming imports and inconsistent young players still in development
Sligo in this window have targeted players who have experience in the league even if some of them like McManus/O'Kane are unpolished, more importantly for a struggling team they continue try to play positive football the right way with energy
