Does anybody know why he has to go so soon? Reading's season doesn't start for months, ffs.

Presumably for pre-season training/matches. Get used to the lads etc. Also other clubs interested, if he doesn't go quickly Reading might lose out on him. Also presuming he is relocating over there :p It gives him time to settle down, find somewhere to live, etc etc. Also, why would Reading want to risk him getting a bad injury while playing for Cork? It's just common sense for both Reading and Doyle himself, unfortunate for CCFC though.

Very sad to see him go but totally understandable. Only pity is that the fee is so low. Is that the official amount or just rumours/speculation? seems like a ridiculous bargain.

He stood out as an exceptional player in the eL, it'll be interesting to see how he gets on in the championship..good guage of eL standards.

In another way it might actually be an encouraging thing for other irish footballers...shows that playing in the eL can actually be a viable career choice, going abroad at an early age not the only option, etc...

btw: i spent a few months working in reading. terrible kip altogether, although the stadium is class. you never know, he might get homesick for de beautiful city by de lee... ;)

It's one of the problems of summer soccer. Obvioulsy reading won't want him to be playing 6 months with City, then 9 months in England.

Danny Murphy did it a few years back (well, in reverse) and it showed with him.

It will mean that doyle will have 2 off-seasons in about 8 months though!

what ever happened to the one standard EL contract. If the muppets got their heads together then they could have a buy out clause where it actually worth something for the clubs invovled .. something like €250,000 !!

CCFC have only themselves to blame... very shoddy management letting a player like this go for such a little amount

Richardson said if a deal isnt done by monday then doyle is in the squad for the harps game,is this is a wise move if the player knows that hes going to go soon enough anyway?

Personally i think he will still give 100% if he plays against harps no matter what situation he finds himself in,any other views on this?

Not like it'd be hard for him to score then anyways! :eek: :D He would have other things on his mind though, but would probably want to put in one as great performance for the fans if he is on the way. Either way, he's got one more game for City in him left, and thats in the best situation for you lot.

If he plays Monday, it'd be great as the fans could give him a last farewell etc, but he may not want to risk injury. The ball's in his court tbh. I know lots of ye will get all high and mighty; 'He's still a City player' etc, but realistically, this deal is happening. The most we can do for him now is givce him a great final memory of being a City player, not being petulant.

Clearly. I think we'd be looking at 500k up. Sadly, this league is still not given the respect it deserves, and much of that is down to the poor managemnt by the FAI, and comments from people like Don Givens belittling the eL.

As I said earlier, it's the officials at City who put that clause in who are really belittling the league and the club. They probably thought it was great that they put it in at the time because it was a decent amount of money but are now looking stupid because he's worth a lot more.

Think big, act big, be treated big. Think little and the league will always be looked upon as fodder.

It's a fair point that had he been playing for a lower league English club he would've been worth a lot more.

I really hope Doyle plays for City on monday so the fans can give him a big send off. I am shocked that the club put in a €100k clause. What moron put that in there??? (Dolan?) Pat Dolan obviousley knew about it and considering his brother is involved with recruiting at reading, they obviousley knew about it too. Is Pat Dolan really a friend of CCFC??
