Is that a good crowd for the IL, considering it was a Tuesday night too?
Is that all? They showed the camera-side stand a couple of times and it looked fairly full, while the stand facing the camera was empty apart from the 50-100 Longford fans. Didn't sound like there was much of an atmosphere on the telly - don't know if that's how it was up there?Quote:

and how much can the Oval hold.....terrible attendence no matter what day it was on.....how much do glentoran usually get for il matches?Quote:

Apparently 150-250 Longford fans there (though bear in mind their overall crowd figures) who all arrived 15 minutes late, as anyone watching on the telly will have seen too! Don't know if they got the kickoff time wrong or if pints were being finished!
This thread gives an idea, but all guesstimates. All fairly low by eL standards (300 to 1000), and most regarded as being way too high as well!Quote:

Thought it was a decent enough game.
It being Town's first competitive fixture might have something to do with their sharpness (sic) in front of goal. While misses!
Cracker of a first goal for the Glens. They looked good going forward but defensively suspect. Shels will have a field day against them.
I think this tournament will be a great success in the years to come. Enjoyed watching a competive game between the eircom and Irish league.
Ignoring Shels, who have a notoriously low fan-base, the top teams in the south would equal or beat those attendances when doing well.Quote:

Time of the week wouldn't be as big a factor on attendances in the Eircom - most teams are used to playing games from Thursday through to Sunday, with the odd Cup or rescheduled game earlier in the week. Timing would only have a big impact if clashed with English football.
So the equivalent teams in the south usually get bigger crowds when in similar positions at the top of their league. As mentioned, Shels are the excpetion to this, with 1/1,500 average crowd (they're famously under-supported).
Stop making stuff up, Shels got the third best average attendence last year with over 2,000 and only a very short gap seperated us and Bohs. Get your facts right next time, thanks :) Derry weren't position one or two, if you're wondering.Quote:

Finishing also was poor but that's less unusual,it's a pity Myler was injured. Lack of competitive matches was also a hindrance, I'd be confident enough still about our chances of going through. Glentoran are in peak form and fitness and we're just getting going and there was very little between us I felt. Linfield at home next and it's importanat to win that one.

Best bit of the game was when Barry Ferguson got floored and tumbled over after someone gave him a fair shoulder.
Class :)
Keep track of estimates on this forum (which apparently weren't too far off reality; the FAI just released an overall league average) - last season's league averages are here. DCFCSteve is unfortunately stereotyping Shels, who have improved over the last couple of seasons. ;)Quote:

Both teams had a positive attitude.
Glens probably deserved to win because they took their chances. Three good goals (though dodgy defending as well).
Decent presentation from Setanta as well.
All in all a good start to the competition.

As a neutral at the match the atnosphere was a bit better than how I have been told it came across on TV.
What part of the statement "Derry... who haven't had a good season in years" eluded you there Slash/ED....?Quote:

Pats experienced a 37% year-on-year drop in atendances, Waterford a 30% drop, and Rovers a 28% drop. Shels experienced a 16% drop - same as Derry.Quote:

If Pats and Rovers didn't have such dreadful seasons last year, Shels would be at best 4th or 5th ranked in terms of attendances. How do you like them apples......? :p
To bring it all back to the original point, the stats seem to suggest there is a higher average attendance at EL games than those in the IL.
Well done setanta - good presentation.
well done bogford and glentoran - I thought it was a great match to watch. WTF was danny at for that second goal
Btw how come the boggers were late getting into the ground
The 2003 figures were way too high across the board, it seems. They came from the likes of The Star, and there were far fewer fan guestimates, which meant more chance of a way too high figure getting in. When I compiled the figures last year, I deliberately went for the lowest reasonable attendance. Also, a quarter of the 2003 attendances are missing, compared with 3 games for 2004. Factor all that in, and the rankings appear reasonable.Quote:
