yep, he is down as having 6 red cards
Might not be a bad thing, should guarantee he is fit and raring to go.
Incidently anyone know how many times he has ben sent off for Ireland?
I can't seem to recall any, but with my memory that is not saying a lot!
Google has a better memory though, sent off in the 5-2 defeat to Cyprus.
That seems to be the only one.
Article on Soccernet says Dunne is a shadow of his former self and could be swapped for Given.
I dont watch as much as you all, is he really that much off last years performance?
I'm a Dunne fan but he's been pretty atrocious this season.
Own goals, sendings off...just a lot of stupid decisions, and as we all know, decision making is one of the most important things about being a centre-half.
What I will say in his defense is that he is having to babysit Micah Richards in the centre of defense, and Man City's system is so offensive that he is constantly exposed.
Kompany is not good enough to shield in that kind of offensive system, and Dunne is being stretched unnecessarily.
Contrast that to last year, where Sven played a defensively responsible system where the midfielders shielded the defense well, especially Hamann.
My evaluation: If Hughes wants to play that kind of system, he needs a world-class defensive/holding midfielder, and a world-class centre-half to play alongside Dunne.
Goalkeeping also needs an upgrade so I can understand them going after Given.
Another sending off tonight for Dunne.
Two yellow cards, one in the first half, second midway through the second.
He was warned by the ref just before half time after a clumsy challenge that another challenge like that would result in a red. Slid in hard on the left winger, completely missed the ball and was shown the second yellow followed by the red.
That's three sendings off in one season.
it was always coming aswell, completely wreckless
Did I miss something with the second yellow?
I thought it looked a soft enough yellow, blatant obstruction sure, but nothing that would damage anybody's health in a month of sundays, compared to Ireland's uncarded lunge which could have been a leg breaker.
Without Dunne, City looked spineless out the field (means Givens excepted).
What is wrong with him.....!!!
he would be behind your Jagielkas/Lescotts/Laursens and probably even your Lucas Neils these days :(
Was he at his best playing with Distin or is Distin gone longer than I realise.
He is playing with some young and inexperienced players at city and maybe he is trying to do too much.
Mark Hughes likes his teams to be hard and physical so this does put you under more pressure of yellow and red cards.
This and the powder puff, from helping the defence point of view forwards that city have put a lot of pressure on the defence.
I am not sure if a certain Mr Trappatoni would have many of those city forwards on his team if he was buying/choosing players for a premiership team.
Chelsea had a lucky escape that Robinho choose the big cash and went to city.
He is not good enough that he does not have to do the ordinary stuff that normal players do. Often the really top players will do most of the ordinary stuff with the special stuff as well.
Dunne is having a very poor season by his own high standards. He kept getting done out on the touchline, don't know why he kept getting dragged out there. Richards seemed to go missing a lot of the time. City were like a disorganised schoolboy team. Ireland had a very poor game. I'm not sure Trap would play him if he was available.
I only saw the second half and thought Dunne looked sound.
Fair dues to Jol, he has a good attractive team despite the shakes in defense.
I like the way the Hamburg players just sat down facing their fans at the end, milking it in.
For all the transfer talk at the start of the year, if he went on sale tomorrow no one in the top eight would want him considering what they already have. And figures of 10m would be laughed at. Bloody shame. Looked like he really could have stepped up to the Vidic mark at one stage last season.
does anyone fear that he might be get sent off for us in a really big game? or is he more composed/confident playing for us?!
Dunne is a very fine player having a poor season by, as someone else has said, his own high standards. He was vulnerable last night having been booked early on.
There'll doubtless be some hysterics ...but they are just that.
Dunne will be back to his best once City sort out their team. He's having to deal with way too much because of a very unbalanced midfield. Too often they lose possession and it's left to the defence to deal with. They need someone to dominate midfield. They've defensive midfielders and attacking midfielders. Nobody like a Gareth Barry or our very own Steven Reid to dominate a game from the centre. Ireland doesn't dictate many games despite what some people think.
I used to always think that Dunne was a liability at the back. I used to joke to my friends that his name should be 'Dunnekey', but he ended up having a great few seasons with Man City and the Ireland defence always looks suspect without him. I hope he can return to form sooner rather than later!
