Derry

Derry totally outclassed us in the first half and should have been one up at half time. I thought we shaded the second half and in fairness I thought we were unlucky not to take a point. Derry are defiantly a superior side and played most of the football, but as I said we can count ourselves unlucky.
I would agree that Sullivan was our best player and he clearly didn’t look too impressed at being subbed and rightly so.
Steve-o def wasnt up to it tonight and same again against Mervue, but if he turns around and gets a hat trick against Fingal or Longford everyone will be saying how he is the best striker in the league. Form is temporary, class is permanent and he will be back scoring goals soon you can be sure.
Similar story with Bobby Ryan, has played very well in recent games, and played poorly tonight. Any time he got the ball to feet tonight he had 3 Derry players around him so he couldn’t doo much.
People are forgetting that Derry are by far and away the best team in this league and should have had it well rapped up before they came to Jackman. There is too much doom and gloom surrounding this result. We need to pick ourselves back up and stop feeling sorry for ourselves. We can pick up enough points in our remaining games to finished 2nd or 3rd and then take the playoffs as they come.

Fact is there is doom and gloom because people could have told you last week exactly what would happen in front of a crowd this week.

Win the next 2 games hopes get up again Cork come to town big crowd and the exact same will happen again.

The lads are good players but are bottlers.

osarusan im sorry but i think people are too quick to defend Steve at times at times today he just didnt bother to even challenge or Derry player had it a yard away from him and he just watched them take it out instead of hassling.

End of the day we were beat by a much better team, everything from the players on the pitch to the managers tactics were all in Derrys favour. I thought Sean Kelly and Bobby Ryan were particularly poor during the game but no point in pointing fingers cause they were all bad (JT done ok when he came on)

No take a deep breath everyone.......last week we were the best team in the league and were gonna finish first. Today we are $hit and will be lucky not to get relegated, come on lads, reality check. Playoff spot is there for the taking. So we lost to a team better then us, we'll get over it (i just hope to Christ the players do by the Longford game)

I thought Scully probably should have gone for five in midfield. It would have given us a better chance of doubling up on their wingers and would have helped put a stop to them knocking the ball around in front of our back four. I felt for Kelly because their no. 11 was excellent and he could have used some help in dealing with him, a constant threat in the air and with the ball at his feet. Also Paddy and Rogers were caught by the pace of the Derry strikers all game, its the main weekness between them and Derry I thought exposed it very well because it never alowd them to get confortable and it showed even when Rogers was in possession. There was no option on the bench for Limerick to combate that either. Scully is a good manager and all, and i dont like to get on his case, but sometimes I find he's to rigid with the 4-4-2 formation...it offers no tatical edge against these teams who know exactly how were gonna line up and play, and that they can rely on us not to change from that.

For the start of the season we played 4-3-3 and have again recently so dont think thats true.

Have to agree why all the doom n gloom as alot of people predicted derry would win. i dont think Lims botttled it because there was a big crowd we often loose in front of a big home crowd because its usually a big game against a big team, Derry are a big team. i dont agree we never looked like scoring Stevo hit the post and i think Tracey fired over from about 6 yards after some lovely play and Clarke could have had a penno in the first half and Doherty pulled off 1 or 2 decent saves and we'd a couple of close ones aswell in the 2nd half. I think stevo tried his best under pressure and could have picked up a yellow for tackle in the 2nd half. Derry were out early for the 2nd half and scored almost from the kick off, i dont think we were fully concentrating on the game at the time and Davey Ryan didn't even attempt to save it. Big deal we lost to the league leaders in a game that could have went either way and having to play the last 15 mins with 10 men didn't help eithre, Derry were never going to loose 3 games in a row. And so what if Scully says we're one of the best teams in the division I think we are. So cheer up ttheres a long way to go and we'll have to hopefully settle for a play-off place

After calming down i suppose its fair enough about the doom and gloom.

But there was nothing at all Dave could have done about the goal Farren took it to early for Dave to set and was very close in both Midfields fault for letting Derry go straight through and Defence for letting Farren through so easily.

Who was that against? I have seen it changed late in a few matches to the 4-3-3 when were chacing a game but its always the same set up at the begining no matter who we play or how the opposition play.

First 6 or 7 games we played 4 3 3 with Hickey Jt and Clarkey.

Played it more recently in a few games with Kav Jt and Kiely cant remember exact games except Cork in Turners.

Against Cork in Turners we started with Kav and Kelleher anyway I remember that. They rotated the stikers a lot at the start of the year but never played it differently to the 4-4-2 except I think against Longford when it was lashing rain in Jackman, they played Hickey on the right but he pushed on like a third striker for most and Clarke dropped off into the hole. Its as much for the reason that Scully didnt change to the 5 in midfield at half time as well as always starting the same way that I was disappointed with anyway..

They have its a fact ive missed 2 games this year i got JT wrong but it was a front 3 in Turners turning into 4 5 1 when we were defending.

People were complaining at the start of the year because we weren't playing 4 4 2.

Fair enough...Derry were very good anyway and probably should have been up a few by the time they got their first goal...something should have been done at the latest at half time. We did come back into the game in the second half but they were a cut above us over all...

Fair enough maybe there was nothing Dave could have done but you could see what was going to happen a mile off, taught Dave had a good game in fairness he looked good under crosses and his kicking wasn't bad either, still makes me nervous at times tho

Beaten by a much better team

Kenny got his tactics right, pinpounted Kelly who was dogsh*t and also the lack of pace of Purcell

Scully didn't when we lost the ball we run back to defend the 18 yard box instead of chasing the player

White should have came on for Kelly at half time

Think people, inculding myself where more ****ed off about the manner of the loss than the actual loss. As people have been saying it's no big deal to lose to the league leaders but from the off you could see Limerick slipping further and further into defense. When a Derry player got the ball we stood off them and dropped deep. When a Limerick player had it, Derry where up ontop of the player immediately, pressurising the player into a mistake. Totally outclassed Friday night. Onwards and upwards now though. Hopefully the team can left themselves straight away and get a result in the League against Longford.

If they battled to a 3-0 defeat you'd get over it, everyone exept maybe Rodgers, Paddy, Dave in goals and JT (when he came on) have a lot to prove against Longford next week. (and I include Scully)

Id love to see Kiely and JT on the wings Ryan and Tracy just don't have the pace and you never see them skin a man. Kiely and Jt could get other teams defences on the back foot with their pace and skill.

Someone has said it already but how Peter White cant start ahead of Sean Kelly shocks me.
