What Stu said.
I can think of lots of great shots stoppers who I didn't rate as goalkeepers, as whenever they had to use their brain and take a decision (rather than an instinctive reaction) they were hopeless. Particularly evident on crosses, coming off their line one-on-one etc.
Brush or Doherty
Mannus is a differnt keeper since he moved to Shams, he was alot beter with Linfield
He has flaws but to be honest he makes up for it with the quality of his shot stopping, particularly this season he's definitely saved us a lot more points than he's cost us. Agree though on Dave Ryan, very good whenever I've seen him. Delaney is very good too.
When Greggs your back-up you defo realise how good Cherrie is.10/10 and come back please Peter the great
From the keepers i've seen in the premier division i'd rate the Shamrock keeper Mannus as the best of an average bunch, all keepers make mistakes but he seems strong in most disciplines & can pull off some excellent saves from out of the blue, he's also in my honest opinion playing behind a dodgy back 4 that leave him exposed badly quite regularly, more so than the keepers at the other top clubs from what i've seen anyway. The worst i've seen so far was the lad in goal for Galway the night they played St Patricks recently, thought he was very poor in his decision making & didnt look fit either. The rest dont stand out one way or the other, so to me theres nothing between them.
Is poor aul Matt Gregg only appreciated at UCD then?
No doubt in my mind, has to be Cherrie, and a stand out keeper in the league at that.
After that has to be Mannus and on their night Ryan and Brush can be exceptional but especially Brush is not consistant enough and prone to the odd woefull howler.
Rogers is veryaverage IMO, and Murphy has just gone down hill in the past few years.
I think Delaney would be better than a decent number of the Premier Division goalies, I think the best overall would be Cherrie though, have seen him save Dundalk on a number of occasions.
Fraid so Stew, did very well at UCD (and Bray when he came over here first) but put the fear of God into us every time he donned the Bohs jersey. Must have some idea though as he runs a keeper coaching school
Cherrie best keeper for me with a, steadier than last season, Mannus probobly next. Brush ALWAYS sems to play well against us but talking to Sligo fans he is not consistent enough.
Barry Murphy is beginning to settle at Dalymount (after getting a run of games) and is improving but strikes me as too small to dominate his area especially on crosses. His distribution of the ball is much better than that of Brian Murphy (probobly the only area he is better at).
Chris bennion is without doubt the best in 1st division. his shot stopping is amazing and his overall play in goal is top notch. he would have conceded alot less goals if it wasnt for our defense lately
Cherrie and that isnt because hes a Dundalk keeper, Some of his saves are amazing, His kicking is good and commands the area aswell as being quick to make a decision and come off his line.
In the time hes been at Dundalk i cant remember a single goal which has been his fault?Something which is rare in the LOI
