All-Ireland Football Championship 2010

To be honest I cant see why Meath should offer a replay. I cant believe Clare did in 1998, and that definitely cost them an All Ireland.
Meath didn't do anything wrong in my eyes. You play to the whistle and obey the ref, simple as that. If every bad decision made by a referee resulted in games being replayed, then I'd imagine 90% of them would be replayed. It was abysmal refereeing on two counts...first of all the ball in was a square ball, then Sheridan proceeded to 'score a try' with the ball...both illegal. The arrogance displayed by the referee in refusing to discuss this with the umpires who were 30 yards closer to the action than him beggars belief, and is so typical of the attitudes of many in powerful positions within the GAA. This man shouldn't ever be allowed referee again, even an under 8's friendly. But don't blame Meath in all of this.

As a Louth man with limited interest in the GAA I'm relieved this is done and dusted. Even the Louth players had little or no appetite for a replay. Louth got RRS (copyrght Damien Richardson) but it happens. Meath didn't cheat, the ref fecked up, big time.

Incidentally, I'm not big on GAA rules, but has Sludden not painted himself into another corner with his assertion that he 'blew the whistle for a penalty but changed his mind'? Do you not have to play the whistle in GAA like in soccer? Are GAA players expected to ignore the whistle and play on in case the ref changes his mind?!?!

Threads gone very quiet! Fantastic win by Roscommon last weekend and while I would have liked to see Sligo win (and they should have, they kicked it away), the overall result isn't that surprising if anyone had been following the progress of the Roscommon underage players. Shine is a fine player and has been heralded for a while now. Depressing result in Ulster, really thought Monaghan would put it up to them, but for whatever reason, they bottled it. Them were very slick, and controlled the game from start to finish, ominously.
No great surprises in the qualifiers, it was always gonna be a case of who was out-fought the other between Dublin and Armagh, and Dublin just about deserved it, O'Connell really got stuck into McDonnell, and MD McAuley was excellent in midfield.
Kildare are really motoring now, they were superb in Derry and fully merited the win. Cork didn't have any trouble down in Wexford. Down seemed to labour a bit against Offaly but a friend who was there was adamant if they needed Down could have pulled away.
This weekend is really interesting.
Sligo v Down
Monaghan v Kildare
Dublin v Louth
Limerick v Cork.
I can see wins for Sligo and Kildare, and the other two games are tossups at this stage. I can't decide whether I believe Louth and Limerick will make a good go of it, or whether I believe they will make a good go of it. I feel for Limerick, I really do as they've some really good players, but I think they have the toughest task, and it's a pity cause I think they would have taken any of the others. Still, if they show the belief that they did against Kerry, it could be tight. I don't think home advantage will have any bearing. Wonder will Cadogan play for the footballers?
Louth Dublin is interesting. It's hard to guage where either team is at. I know of a few of the Louth panelists, and by all accounts the minds are really focussed, and LSFF is forgotten about already. They have enough capable players to be able to score well, however, they're light at the back. Luckily Dublin have been relatively weak upfront, and I've a feeling that if Louth could get a run at them, they could win. Interesting game anyway.
Head on the block I'll go for

Kildare,
Cork
Louth.

After that it gets really interesting.
This weekend

Newstalk say Cadogan's playing for the hurlers Sunday, so he's concentrating on that for now. I'd say it's more people thought Sligo had done the donkeywork, rather than underestimating Roscommon, the acid test will be tomorrow. Limerick-Cork will be like the Munster final, the Rebels probably having the staying power. Louth have just got over the shock, and with Dublin in full flow, they should have the edge. Sligo-Down's 50-50, in which case it's usually safest to back the Ulster team, while Kildare's freshness should overcome Monaghan. After that, a Kerry-Dublin QF looks inevitable, with provincial winners hoping for Kildare if they win, and the qualifiers Roscommon.

Of the qualifiers I'd be hoping to avoid Cork and Kildare. I'd be happy with either Sligo/Down or Louth/Dublin. Saying that, if the beaten Prov finalists miraculously all won, that would make for an interesting set of q/f's and then s/f's.

This Limerick-Cork game has suddenly become very interesting. Hope they can match the intensity of the last five minutes in extra time.

Great win for Down last night, was at match. Albeit Sligo were apppalling, still we did what we had to do.

Lets hope for Roscommon, or maybe Meath. Anyone but Tyrone. Not again

Some great games there - 2 really competitive games on Saturday. I think it will be Cork v Tyrone and Kerry v kildare in the semis.

Two good games today, certainly were needed after some awful games last week. Great to see Kerry in particular and Tyrone beaten. Its wide open now, you'd have to fancy Cork if they can rediscover the form of last year.

About the only time I'll ever be glad to see the Dubs win a game! Seriously though, they've improved tremendously in the space of a few weeks, but assuming Cork win tomorrow, they should have the experience to win it out. Very strange hoodoo that Down have over us, just about old enough to remember '91, a mix of the old guard and new players, but like today they never looked convincing. Hard to call Meath-Kildare, but you'd expect the royals to edge it, when they've been at this stage the last few years.

2 big shocks today. Down did to Kerry what Cork should have done to them when ahead earlier in the year.

Good win by the Dubs. Tyrone didn't help themselves with a lot of bad wides but they got the goal at the right time. Title is wide open now.

By my reckoning, only two of the eight sides that competed the provincial finals remain - really goes to show the value of the qualifiers. Championship is basically wide-open now, although Down are probably the form team.

Cork have to be favourites now. Supposedly they have being training really hard so as to peak at end of August.

Cork upped their game a lot in the second half to win by nine points in the end. We'll need to improve again for Dublin
