I've no problem applauding McGrath when he first appears but then leaving it at that. Give him a good reception and then give Waterford hell.
I don't think too many of us will be concentrating on McGrath when Rennie's around anyway.

As for what one_bounce said, I just don't see why we would applaud anyone connected with that shower before we play them. I'd have no problem shaking his hand afterwards or in the street, but not before hostilities commence.
I agree with most of whats been said here, but I still think the Corner has gone OTT on it.
We can respect McGrath while still giving Waterford a hostile reception. Just like when France come to Ireland next year we can watch ZZ and think what a player but we still aint going to cheer for the French!
City fans might have a lot of reasons to abuse the Waterford manager and certain players during the season but McGrath should not be part of that.
His role is advisory to the club. He will advise them on their youth system, the U21 team, recruiting young players to the club.
He started in the eL, he deserves respect from everyone because despite a serious illness and huge self-esteem problem he still got out on a pitch and played his heart out for his country. He played when his knees were falling apart and he didn't abandon his country like someone else.
The guy deserves a standing ovation and a warm welcome. I will be disgusted if I am a City fan and the country watched as we booed an Irish legend.
no, it's simply the fact that you chose to ignore any Longford fans warnings about Reynolds... You egotistical wánkers just exclaimed his behaviour as something which happens to small clubs and it was just because he had the ambition to play for CCFC. If I remember, you called us obsessed... perhaps so but he's not just a 'RAT' due to shafting CCFC... Spare me the Macy and Dodge orders...Quote:

t.b.h.cant honestly see that happening anywhere in the el league.Quote:

it would be a sad day for us all, irrespective of who you support,
if that were to happen.
we all want our team to win and sure its traditional to "hate" your opposition, but for christs sake we are talking about paul mc grath here.
short memory is a terrible thing.we are talking a basic show of respect here, not a red carpet job.
While the chances of Paul mcGrath visitingSt Mels Park are remote im sure he'd be afforded the respect he earned throughout his illustrious career.
A legend is a legend and deserves to be treated as such.
the idea of booing someone cos he works for the opposition is childish.
Zac Hackett Mark Devlin Liam Coyle recieve the same reception when visiting here as former greats John Minnock etc.
Id be with you on that.Quote:

To be honest though, I think that this will be more of a PR job for Waterford. Paul has got no coaching experience and will probably be based in England for a lot of time during the year - off comentating and what have you. I couldnt really see Paul getting into the nitty gritty of setting up youth teams and sorting out the UEFA licence. Arent we so lucky we have a guy like Gunther for us? ;) And to the guys going on about Pauls personal probelms, what has he ever done to ye? Let his private life be private.
I can`t see it happening. it would be like Maradona getting grief in the Argentine league for being a cokehead.
yes it is waterford and not the republic of irelandQuote:

thecorner,
You're not going to be able to stir up any antagonism toward McGrath among the vast majority of City fans. While we're all happy to have a go at Rennie, there's a history with him.
It's different with McGrath, I don't have a single bad memory of him in an Ireland shirt, if anything it's quite the opposite. He's a legend, and he's recently come through some really hard times, the thought of having a go at him turns my stomach to be honest.
ok lets roll out the red carpet
lets say "Paul, why did you turn up,ur one of our legends,y not just take the 3 points now and we will leave at that."
just because someone doesn't agree with you thecorner, it doesn't mean they lie at the polar opposite position to your own. obviously no-one is suggesting the above, and it's pretty childish to try and discount someone else's position in this way.Quote:

McGrath deserves the respect of the Irish football public, it doesn't mean we lay down for waterford, it just means we don't resort to calling him a "homeless alco".

just imagine, say for instance michel platini(i know its highly unlikely) had taken over instead of paul.i guarentee on match day
if he was announced to the crowd at the x(just an example/could be anywhere)he would get a rousing reception from the crowd, and then when he had left the field, the supporters would then verbally rip into each other.
maybe there is something missing here but my gut feeling is that this is how this kind of thing should be handled.i mean booing somebody of this kind of stature is akin to booing/whistling when national anthems are getting played.
its not stopping you ripping into the waterford boys at all,its just saying, hold on for a minute this guy was probably our best ever defender if not player on the international stage:)
Theres nobody saying that and u know it.Quote:

All people are saying is a polite round of applause before KO for McGrath and then let the plethora of hate be unleashed upon Danny Boy and King RAT.
And beat them all the way back to Waaaaherfurd.
Does this sound like a compromise ?
if that is the case,we should also clap and applaud ollie cahill whenever he returns
after all he has done a lot more for city than paul mcgrath has
Well go on so, just grow up a bit!Quote:

How did you manage to get served a pint in Tolka? You seem like your 15.
Ollie deserves a bollicking because he slagged the fans off for months and then buggered off to Shels following the cash.Quote:

McGrath represented Ireland brilliantly for a decade and gave us all the gift of the Italy game in USA94 when he kept them at bay and we puffed our chests out at home, proud of a truly World Class player.
Yeah your right thecorner, it's the same thing
Boo! and scream "homeless alco" to your hearts content boy, you're on your own.
Jesus, how did I miss this.... Actually, this month I'm hating Derry anyway... :DQuote:

Easy Marty, below the belt comment.... Xlex is as much part of Section O as anyone else, and certainly more so than one in particular on that list who seems to go over the stand as much as in section OQuote:

Actually, I think Reynolds is a c*nt. However, I also agree with Xlex that Cork got what they deserved.Quote:

Fook it, if I get stick about Pats, you deserve all you get about Cork, you l@nger jockey... :)Quote:
