If you read though the licensing manual, there doen not seem to mention anything about a 3 year ban from competitions.

It is up to the local association to issue the Licenes for the coming season, and Uefa do spots checks, and at the moment seem very happy with the Licenses are issued.

They are very strict on fincial issues. But no one seems to know what the story is with a club that has come out of examinship/Administration.

At the moment Cork should have no issues getting a UEFA License. They are debt free. Players are all paid upto date. They have decent facilities, a youth policy, they basically tick all the boxes in the manual.

The fact that they got into trouble, turned around and sorted it out and got their house in order, in a fair world, shouldn't really count against them.

Coleraine were banned for going into Administration which is the same as Examinership. The IFA appealled to UEFA on behalf of Coleraine but no joy.


"It is with regret that the Management Committee of Coleraine FC announces that the club will not be able to play in the UEFA Cup in 2008 / 2009 season. This is due to a failure to meet specific UEFA requirements in respect of the UEFA Licence application and is as a result of the clubs period of Administration falling within a 3 year criteria period prior to application.

The Management Committee wish to thank the IFA who fought our case and appealed on our behalf to UEFA but unfortunately this was to no avail.

However, if invited and subject to receiving a Domestic Licence, the club will be able to play in the Setanta Cup."

There's a seperate license application that must be submitted to UEFA

Basically, if you believe the blurb from the FAI, any club that gets a Premier Club Licence should also get a Uefa Lience since the FAIs licencing manula is based on Uefa's

As of yet, I have not been able to find anything on this 3 year rule. And I have been looking.

Maybe this might be with the IFAs rules which maybe different slighty to the FAIs, but there is nothing in the Licencing manual that requires a 3 year ban for teams that enter administration. But maybe I've overlooked something.

There might be other reasons that weren't reported. I don't know.

If anyone can shed some light on this please do.

The original UEFA competitions club lincensing agreement mentioned that clubs who had become bankrupt, or entered administration were precluded from applying for european license for 3 years.

There's simply no way that UEFA would allow the FAi to remove this

If Uefa mention Administration that could mean very different things in the member countries. technically we did not go bankrupt as Cork City Investments still exists. Did Coleraine go bankrupt & emerge as a "new company" ?

They ruling is for stepping into administration.

Examinership is known as administration in the UK. I think you lads are buggered being honest and i would expect the FAI to sppurt and appeal for you like the IFA seem to have done but rules are rules without trying to be sarky.

Probably also worth noting that the fact the FAI have come out and said they want to force Cork into Europe means the rule is probably still there.
