They have a long season ahead of them with a fantastic squad and good management team so they have to keep their heads up and forget about the winter just gone.

Too true.
On sunday they had Gerry and Vinnie on the bench, Joe Lawless and Lovejoy in the stand, Danny needs more games to get into his stride. It has been hard in the winter to keep a rhythm, with the lads back from Austrailia trying to get match fitness in the close season and the management getting the lads to play the football of old it was always going to be hard.
Once the games start coming in the new season we will see a more effective and cohesive squad.
There is alot of talk going about about some individuals, and as we know much of it has been grossly exageratted, many people fail to realise that they used to have their nights out before they won the junior cup, but now they are under the microscope more, and when they got knocked out this year the doom and gloom merchants started mouthing.
This is not good for the club or the team. The slate should be wiped clean and put behind us.
[QUOTE=Leveller;886741]Too true.
On sunday
There is a lot of talk going about about some individuals, and as we know much of it has been grossly exaggerated, many people fail to realise that they used to have their nights out before they won the junior cup,
Is that why they were punish and sent to the stands!!!
TB any news on the ground development?
Westport United will be hosting their dinner dance on Easter Saturday night in The Castlecourt Hotel at 8:30. Important awards to be given out on the night. There will be a raffle for spot prizes and there will be a disco. Tickets (€30) are now on sale.
The U.18s lost 2-1 to Castlebar Celtic today in the Quigley Cup. Stephen Walsh scored. Should have been 3-0 up at half time.
Sad to hear that Joe Kelly is hanging up his boots for the last time. Had a key part in the historic Junior Cup run.
Who are you kidding should have been 3-0 up at half time. Celtic played you off the park according to reports I heard. Yes Utd worked their socks off but lacked quality. Celtic missing 10 players for various reason (Celtic web site) but were well worth their win. bar one player didnt see anyone who will make it into the Utd A & B squads this year.
I believe that the club flag bearers are back training tomorrow night at The Point.
They say you shouldn't try kid the kider.
On the other hand, There must be alarm bells ringing due to the lack of Celtic U-18 players who failed to show up for games, this is not the first time this year.
Is The Gaa Calling the shots. Have being in formed that a number of your players have being told not to play or else.
We wont go naming players, as they are youths, but shame on those who have such control over youth players.
It has no place in sport!!!
Where do you live? Look anyone involved with sport knows that the highest honour for an U-18 player is to make the Mayo Minor team and I believe that no club should put pressure on a player not to play for the Mayo minors. These players will paly for Celtic when they are available. This has been always the case at Celtic and these players do come back while others decide to play for their GAA team thats life. I know you are still sore, that so many Celtic players would not travel with the Mayo Youth team, the question you need to ask is how do we make it attractive to these players to pick Mayo Youths over Mayo Minors (cant be done in my mind) for example getting a top quality (high profile) manager/coach, possible UK scouts coming to look at the team, a chance to play for Ireland etc. How often did the Mayo team train this year? So if the set up is not correct, you cant blame the players. I know the 3 lads involved with our senior team also did not make themselves available due to the games that were coming up. Stop snipping a give us some ideas how to improve the Mayo youth set up. Remember it is Celtic who are developing these players. Still a GGA County. Of course I would love if the games do not clash. We also have the same issue with the schools.
Sorry can't agree with you, when you bring parochial politics into sport, that is the doctrine that is what GAA stand for.
I will agree while its great opportunity to play for your county, regardless of what sport. I would consider that players at leased should at lease be aloud to choose not be threatened with excommunication should they decide to play for club or county in another sport, You are also right, when I find out that players have being told they can't play for there club or county, when you consider that coaches have given up there time to coach players. However I or others do not blame the players concerned, only the bigot's who think they have a divine right to control these players.
I also share the view unless players play at the highest level, how will they improve.
When you play for your county at leased they will be pitched against the best in the country, rather that play weak club sides with in the league. When you look at top league competitions in Mayo or the Quigley Cup have being won by Celtic more often than lost, just because the lack of competition.
There is of course the Chicken and the egg, as to which came first.
Well let me tell you when you give up your time freely to run football in this county. you will know that there would be no Celtic or any other club to play in Mayo with out a league.Unless of course you decide to play in another league outside the county.
Regard to, if I am sore for players for not turning up? the answer is no. But what is a concern is when we send out 2nd string to represent this county, and I feel for the players who where sent out knowing that a number of them wasn't good enough, this of course has an effect on those who were good enough on the day.
As for your comments on scouts or top coaches, its hard on a league to put funding into these areas, due to the fact large sums of funds raised is put into the Kennedy Cup team, as to which is the age group would be considered the best for attracting scouts, as this is the tender age that scouts look at.
At the end of the day you must remember this is an amature not a professional League.
Have to say that the St. Patrick's Day float looked absolutely sexy!!:D It received lots of compliments around the town.
We had a wonderful dinner dance on Saturday night, the food was lovely, the drink was flowing and the craic was good. Best €30 one can spend!!;):D
I haven't spoken about the ladies but Willie's Fillies are off to a great start, two wins from three and are looking good. Maria Harrington is with the Republic of Ireland U.16 squad at the moment.
The junior season kicks off for us on Sunday with the galacticos away to Snugboro and the B team away to Manulla B. The C team are chomping at the bit and they explode into action the following week away to Ballina United.
The kiddies will kick off on Saturday with the U.14 A team away to Ballina Town, the U.14 B team away to Ballinrobe Town and the U.14 C team away to Ballina Town B. Really looking forward to the action on the potential new ground openers in a few years.
Forget about Liverpool V M*******er Utd, forget about Celtic and Rangers, forget about Real Madrid and Barcelona, forget about AC Milan and Inter Milan, this is the world's greatest derby; Westport United V Castlebar Celtic and six derby games at that. With the galacticos, the game set for April 13th is off in Celtic Park but the return in the Sports Park will take place on July 5th. The B team will take on their B counterparts on the 8th June in Westport and will play again on the 6th September in Castlebar. The C team are home on the 7th June, while there will be a double header as the two sides compete again on the 6th September. Looking forward to clocking up 18 points on the board!!!:D:p:D
Whats the B team looking like lineup wise this year? Heard a few of them are gone up to make numbers in A team!
Not a good day in the office with a pretty stale display on the pitch. Okay, got two goals, an OG from Spiderman's shot and from Kipper and had chances but the third goal we conceded would appear on a football blooper DVD. We need to start enjoying our football again and we need to get back to basics. After the couple of bad results lately, the players really owe it to the Red and Black Army and I think that they will get their act together.
As some might be aware, Mark McNally has been given the opportunity to play for the first team this season. Do you think he can make a positive impact?
Fair play to the lad. He's a nice footballer who deserves the chance. It's not gonna be easy to break into that set-up and establish himself.
Some quality players already there, but competition is important within a squad as is rewarding guys who are working hard and showing some promise. Whither or not he can make an impact is as much down to himself as anything else, he has obviously shown he has enough to deserve a run, with a little luck and a lot of hard work he might make an impression. It's not impossible as Austin O'Malley proved a couple of seasons ago.
It also reflects well on the club, that they are willing to give oppertunities to guys doing well on the B team. If lads see there is a genuine oppertunity of earning a call up, they will be more motivated and work harder. This sort of policy will reward the club.
As the Theatre of Dreams is currently closed, the match againt Ballina Town will take place in the beautiful, scenic setting of Glenhest Rovers FC!!:D May the Red and Black Army invade the lakeside pitch for 6:00 on Saturday evening as we shall chalk up our first win!!:D:D
Where is everyone. Thunder where are you?
The B team have drawn one and lost two so far. JM is looking to blood players in for the future. Some positives can be taken from the S&F game on Saturday evening.
The C team lost their first game but a Johnny Walsh strike helped them to beat the Blue Bombers on Saturday.
B team have an ex-Watford academy player with them now, but the first team has a Spanish guy training at the moment, and with the reviews coming out at the minute, the talk is that he is El Matador!!!:D
