Littleman, by the time you and the rest of the Grattan lads came to the game, Mayfield should have been 3 up. So i think they deserved the win in the end.
For the 4th League game running, I tell the story of a game we didnt win but should have. The other two defeats were our own fault really, but this one was a little different.
Friday night football up in Castleview - we went one up and had a good shout for a push-in-the-back peno. These calls can go either way so we lived with it. Us with all the ball, Castleview very dangerous on the break. 1 up at the break. Castleview had more of the game in the second half, and equalised with a deflected shot on the hour. 5 minutes before that, we had a shout to make it 2-0 with a ball that looked over the line, but ref was close so maybe not.
We went ahead again 60 seconds after the equaliser, and Castleview pressed for the equaliser. Then came the moment that changed the game. Our Centre forward was upended from behind in the area, ref 10 yards away, no pen. In 20something years of watching football, I cant recall a more blatant peno not given.
It deflated us and lifted them to push forward and equalised inside final 10, and score the winner near the end. Heartbreaking.
The ref has reffed our last two games, and actually reffed both very well, save that one call. Makes it harder to understand how he got it wrong. Ball didnt move, so no contact from defender to ball - both ended up on the ground so no dive - cant work it out.
Olly must be still sick, seeing as we havent seen his post yet!
Roy Kenny from Castleview stood out. I will let Olly call our players.
[QUOTE=Radiostar;1268106]Cheers Radio, And the more pleasing thing was it was our first clean sheet of the season. They were also the holders of this trophy for the last two years, so it was a game they did not want to lose. Conditions were very heavy and they had more of the ball. But we got the all important goal that puts us into the hat for the next round.;)
We lost 2-0 away to Wilton today, we played very well in the first half and should have been one or two up, were not taking our chances of late, JJ didnt even have to make a save in the half, they came at us after the break but never got behind us until we had our centre half sent off after about 65 minutes for two yellows, then the inevitable happened. Not too disheartened by the defeat the performance was good and if we play like this in the league every week we should win most games. I have to add that the referee was excellent today, he talked to the players and let it flow and you could speak to him, not like the usual who are like school teachers and treat you like your 12, We were never gonna win the FAI cup anyway but it would have been good to get out of Cork
Anyone going to Croker Sat? Hope we can get a result!

MkBucks,
Sorry wasn't at the game on Sunday. Good result for us - hence bad for you, I'd appreciate a City W. view on the game?
Seperate note - Innisvilla's new pitches and new (expensive) drainage seems to be working, All Innishvilla home games went ahead this weekend - underage and Junior...
A good win for ye indeed to put out the holders in the first round will give ye great satisfaction and confidence, no doubt.
We had 2 late withrawals and had to re arrange positions. our keeper also had the flu and our centre forward played in goal which obviosly doesn't help.
Ye outplayed us in the first half, cutting us open on a few occasions, first goal was a badly defended corner but a nice finish all the same. Second goal was freakish. long ball
(attempted cross caught the wind and flew into the top corner) i reckon any regualr keeper would have caught it TBH.
We came into the game in the second half and pulled one back with a great strike from around 25 yards. Thought we were gonna have a right go but 2mins later the referee gave the most dubious penalty ive seen in a while. your player went down the right and seems to over run the ball and slides as our player makes contact. out for a goal kick? no the ref immediately points for a peno! The markings from the slide were plain to see on the wet surface(clearly 6-8 yards away from the perfectly lined penalty area) our players were astonished but the ref wouldnt go back on his decision and ended up sending one of our guys from the line and booking numerous of our players for disputing this! Your players were laughing themselves at the desicion but thats the way it goes i suppose.
The penalty was a nice finish and knocked the wind from our sails. We continued to play well and will take alot from our performance with 10 players.
Best of luck in the rest of the competition. Its nice because a couple of wins and ye wont be far from the cross!
Also credit due for the pitch quality and drainage. Also the pitch was well signposted and thanks for the invite for the sambos which is always well appreciated! Look forward to coming back for the league game hopefully for 3 points !!
I just read the Star Aul pull out an they dont even have a Cork side quoted for odds to win the Fai,all Limerick an Dublin again.I guess somethings will never change.
Bog,how we lookin for the weekend, will the pitch be ok.Lookin forward to it big time.
On another matter I dont see why Springfield should be underdogs against any junior side at the minute, themselves and Glenvale are the form sides in the junior game at the minute I'd fancy them
to beat anyone in a one off game.
If its the Donoughmore in league 1A they are a handy side at the moment, good facilities up there as well and if ye are playin up there give plenty time for travel as it can be tricky to find--also the best defence in 1A at the moment afaik.
Ballvolane lads, whats the story on Kanturk? Strenghts/Weaknesses - what would you do different if you were playing them again this weekend?
DCross, we had that ref a few weeks back and he was excellent too.
8 games, 8 refereeing performances.
3 Excellent.
2 Good
3 Off days.
By the way, our results are not in tandem with refs performances. We won one of th off days and lost one of the excellents.
Arite lads,
Donoughmore are a handy side as was mentioned. We played them in their place earlier on in the season. Big flat pitch. Dunno what it's gonna be like after the rain. They'll be competitive for sure. Nice jerseys!
Alright littleman! No games were played on our pitches last weekend. There's always good drying down in charles fort so hopefully the game will get the go ahead. We'll do everything we can in anycase as no game in 2 weeks and the lads are dying to play some ball. Is the AUL game the week after next?! If that's the case it could potentially be a month without a game? I'd wager it will be on! Have ye any injuries I should know about?!
Hey lads, anyone play ballintolis yet this year? any info on them??
Our B team were playing them last weekend and i went down to watch it. If you are playing them away then be prepared for the worst pitch in the history of the AUL, cow crap all over the place and grass up to the players ankles in some parts. I heard that the ref didnt want to play the match because of it but both managers agreed to play it. They are a very physical side and sullivan is a handful up front but is pretty slow. they have plenty pace in midfield though. The gaa season is over for them so they should be full strength.
In the end we won 2-1 with a last minute winner but not before a man each was sent off! After the game the ref handed out a few more reds to their players for constant complaining.
Cheers King Corner and bella,
ya playing them away sunday morning in the michaels cup, Heard they were physical alright looks like ye had an entertaining match last week so :-D,
Thats a disaster alright hard to play ball in those type pitches, the way the weather is going there could be another few fixtures off this weekend!!
Hello Bog,Im sorry I dont have any bad news for ya,we are as bored as ye at the minute so its just train midweek an hope the weather improves enough to allow the game to go ahead. But the weather isnt doin us any favours at all.Tis a pity cause I was offered tickets to the Croke park game an had to turn um down, free by the way for the Sunday game too.
I can just see it now
Ireland 3 France 0
Ireland 37 Oz 12
any any takers
Hey lads, anyone know what the pitch is like in Rathcoole? We are down to play them in the league on Sunday morning but we are missing a few so it would be great if it was called off.Their B team are playing in the AOH cup tommorrow so if thats called off ours will definately be called off.
Uh oh the rain is starting to fall again... Lots of fixtures in the balance I'd guess...
matches def off id say lads. judging by the rain outside now. i reckon the fai should invest in all weather pitches for all of us !!!!!:D
Looks like the weather is going to wreck another weekend of fixtures lads, Maybe the aul Should rent out a few all weather pitches (douglas hall, mayfield, blarney etc) on weeknights and try run off the backlog with the assistance of clubs??
Kinsale 4-2 Grattan. Big win for Kinsale, two losses now for Grattan against two fellow challengers.......
Any report Bog, Littleman?
Aoh. cup (1st round) Result
Coachford B 4 - 1 Watergrasshill A
Munster Junior Cup
Big win for Ballyvolane against The Street.
Good win aswell for Macroom ( One more to be out of town )
Prem. League :
Will be very close this year , Every team well capable of beating each other . Big 3pts for Kinsale this week , No doubt Derek Mc must have been on form
Not forgetting you Innish.
Good result away from home.
Dillons X 5-5 Greenwood, we won 4-3 on penalties, crazy game, we were losing 4-2 at half time got it back to four all then conceded from a penalty in injury time but managed to score an equaliser almost straight away. We gave away some sloppy goals, most of us had a few too many last night I'd say. We're away to Boscos next week in the next round, theres a bit of history there so should be an interesting one.
i see glenvale came a cropper v richmond. first defeat..huge win for ballyvolane v blarney street any reports.
I was at the Glenvale game. They were very comfortable for the first half hour. They went 1 up and had the majority of the ball. 2 mistakes by the sweeper and they were 2-1 down at half time. 2nd half was a strange one. Nobody wanted to take control of the game and it got sloppy. In fact Richmond had more of the chances as Glenvale were pushing on for the equalizer. Richmond went 3-1 up in the last few minutes. Glenvale played the better football but Richmond just took their chances when they came, on a very fast surface.
Good win for us today against Blarney St. not a bad game considering the conditions. Both teams missing influential players but i think we deserved the win. Went 2 up and they scored with about 15 mins to go but it was sealed with a penalty with bout 5 mins left on the clock. Martin cronin scored a great goal from outside the box, and Mark mahony (center back)also scored.......Oscar Traynor candidates ?? Both had great games.
Great win for Coachford B, Watergrasshill should be fairly strong this time of year with no GAA...
Big win in premier for Kinsale, be nice to hear from either the seasiders or wee man on the game.
Spoken to the lads after Ard-na-Laoi game happy with win could have been a few more but good to get another win under belts in league...
Great battle at the Fort last saturday.
Grattan were really up for this one after losing their last 3 games(?).
Grattan started well and went ahead after about 15 mins with a well worked goal and took this lead to the break.
Kinsale came out strong after the break and equalised early with a good strike from Vincent Hurley. Grattan went back in front after a mistake in the Kinsale defence and soon after had a big shout for a pen (free outside the box given). Couldn't see from my position but it did look very close.
Kinsale turned around and scored 3 without reply soon after to win out handy in the end. Derek McCarthy got another 2 to add to his haul and Vincent Hurley finished with 2 also. Good win for Kinsale who go top (but can be caught be those with games in hand). Grattan must be low on confidence at the moment with a run of losses. They didnt play that badly and will be back again to winning ways soon enough, hopefully against the other contenders and not us though!!!
Would be interested to hear the weemans take on the game
Rathcoole 3-2 Park Utd
What can only be described as a disaster.2-0 up with 17 minutes to go and we lose 3-2.
Played very well in the first half and went in 1-0 up.Got the second 10 minutes into the second half.Rathcoole threw everything at us after this and they pulled one back after poor marking. We started to panic after this and all we were doing was hoofing the ball back in to their half. They equalised with 5 to go when shot from outside the box took a wicked deflection off our centre half. Then with time virtually up their striker took a shot from 20 yards that hit the roof of the net..Unless we get 3 points against Rylane next Sunday we might as well kiss goodbye our chances of the league.
Not sure what his name is but the ref we had yesterday was probably one of the best we've had in recent years.Let play go when he had to and would have a word in a players ear instead of flashing a card.Fair play.
