The Rams forced 14 corners in the end – Dunne headed ten of them clear himself, and on two other occasions climbed to nod the returned ball out as well. The two of them read the game as if operating from an advanced computer programme – it wasn’t human. Dunne stood like a 100 foot tall concrete monument to the art of defending. A year ago he was finished, aged 33 and coming back from a long term injury. Three months ago he looked spent, even Harry Redknapp admitting he was running on empty. Dominant just doesn’t cover it. The big worry is that the summer friendlies showed up exactly how poor the replacements are for him. I am a lot more worried about the qualifers now than I was.

Russia v Richie Dunne. With Shay Given popping up every now and again. One of the greatest performances I've ever seen, and I count McGrath v Italy in that.
Christ, we are depressingly ordinary now. It's Robbie Keane plus ten nobodies. And probably eleven nobodies from the next campaign. :(
