Westport United has shouted a serious warning to Super League contenders on Saturday evening after wiping the floor with Glenhest Rovers on a 6-1 scoreline. Vinny got his hat-trick (and another matchball!!:D ), Spiderman netted a brace while Keano got the opener. Won the game without nine of what you would call the regulars and with some stunning, creative football. Burkey and Austie are forming a useful partnership while Mozmir "Big Mike" is comfortable in goal. Once the established order return, Westport United will look to be the force for all teams to aspire to!!:)
Some interesting underage results. The U.12s won 5-4 away to Castlebar Celtic last night while the U.14A team beat Ballyheane 3-1 and the U.14B side overcame S&F United 2-1.
Great to hear Eoin Torpey being called up to the Irish U.16 Emerging Talent Squad for the forthcoming Lille International Tournament in France.:ball: :D
The 20th Anniversary Reunion was a great hit on Friday night in the Castlecourt Hotel. The food was superb, the website launch was composed with innovation by popular TD, Michael Ring. Noel Duffy, John Herrick, Tom Tarmey and Sean McLoughlin all received presentations and Noel Duffy finally shared the 21 year old secret in the recruitment of John Herrick as Westport United manager. The stalwarts of that occasion were in attendance with the players of the calibre of Ronnie Ring, Danny McLaughlin, Liam Halpin, Ger and Pat Duffy, Michael Horan, John McKenna, Bobby Walsh, Ollie Cunningham, Joe Moran, Joe Mulroy and Peter Collins. Famous supporters of the time included Kitty Horan, Peter Ryan, Joe Ring, Aiden King and Padraig Kelly. It was worth the admittance fee and there was a very good raffle too. Eamon and Kevin supplied the music while DJ Mandy Bird spun the discs.
Away to Partry Athletic in the defence of the AIB Cup on Sunday. B team away to Erris United. Potential upset on the cards?? ahem, ahem!!:p :D Heard on the grapevine that a former Welsh youth international may be signing for the juniors. Any truth in that??
I was at an over 40's friendly between Westport United and a side from Liverpool. The Mighty Scousers gave Westport a footballing lesson that they will never forget in an 8-1 thrashing. At half time, NM told JB that when he is playing, he must want the ball, to which JB replied, "I don't want the ball!!" One of the stupid liners of the year!!
speaking from experience erris is a very hard place to go and get a result. with all the inexperienced youngsters in the b team it might be a bit too much to ask for but you never know. as for the a team partry could be just as hard a place to go to with that very compact pitch but they should come through unscathed
without 8 of your first choice players??? if you look at how succesful the celtic underage setup is ye must b gettin worried, some serious players there that would get on any team n da super league!!! their underage setup and quality of the teams is somethin to admire!! een though i don't like saying it!!
Must ask the question apart from always knocking Westport do you manage any of there under age teams?
you should try to be more positive, I understand there are times when certain people need there heads knock together, but do you think its time you should deliver what you can contribute to the game.
renovater,I've moved your question into the "Advice on the Rules of the Game" thread where the Ref will I'm sure give you an official answer.
I heard that the lads had a superb 5-0 win in Partry with Vinny, Cam, Flawless, Spiderman and the returning Louisburgh Lion all netting. Also, I noted that Razor made another comeback and his past EL experience will prove to be invaluable. Welcome aboard to Johnny O'Brien from Corrib Rangers, famous for outplaying Danny Scahill in 2005 when Westport United played Corrib Rangers. Lets hope that he has a successful playing spell for Westport United.
Did I hear that a prominent Westport United supporter was seen hoisting a Castlebar Celtic flag at his place of work?? Loved to have seen the reaction when he was asked to implement that particular task.:D
3-0 against Ballyheane and played some sharp football. Vinny, Louisburgh Lion and Brian Fahy netted. Very impressed with Johnny O'Brien in the middle of the park. Very much a clone of Danny Scahill. I have a nickname for him to be inducted into the Hall of Names!! Makelele, because he likes to break up attacks in the middle of the park!!:D
Bring him down to Belleek next Sunday. We'l put him in his place
johnny o brien has no commitment and will let ye down on many occasions. all the talkin ye do about celtic bringing in players and payin managers and giving them cars and what are ye doin now????????at least celtic got a manager with qualifications and experience thats worth the money!!!! ye are jealous of celtic who did it right i just wish that everyone would shut up on about what celtic are doing when ye are doin it yourselves, it's the way forward!!! not tryin to be a w#*ker lads sorry but just thought i'd say it!!
