the only worry i have about it is, that the countries don't realise that dustin is an actual comedian/regular puppet on Irish TV and think that we are entering in a turkey to make out the show and its contestants are turkeys. Id say most wont realise this you see and be offended by it.

Fair play though, the thing is a joke, the last 5 or 6 years were just a farce.

I feel bad for the serious songwriters and performers who see the Eurovision as an oppurtunity for them to get established.

Also on Eurovision Finals voting, is this done by public vote now or still by local committees?

Yeah, when you think back to bygone years when serious artists like Dana and Abba competited for the coveted title it really makes you wonder how Eurovision became this camp, twee singalong that it is nowadays

It doesn't make me wonder at all it happened because they did away with the serious knowledgeable judging Panel and left it up to Joe Slovak to vote for his neighbour's and vice versa. the only way to break the eastern/central european stranglehold is to either come up with a song/performance that is so amazing that it can not be ignored(very unlikely imo) or to come up with a Gimmik that will stand out from all the rest (Ala Turkey a few years ago or Lithuania last year) Dustin has a great chance this year IMO and hopefully it may lead to a return to the glory day's of the Jury voting

You should see how Eurovision works in Sweden.

There're four qualifying rounds before you can get to the Swedish final. Each of these qualifying rounds are shown live on TV on Saturday nights with a television audience of approx. 3 million (a third of the Swedish population). Most of the acts would be established "stars" in Sweden and Scandinavia and the tabloids are full of gossip and what not leading up to each Saturday night. It's big business.

Compare this to how we approach Eurovision and it's easy to see that we really don't have a hope of winning anything. But luckily Dustin will save the day!

...yes indeed. In fact I'm off to see Charlie McGettigan in Marley Park this summer. I hear Niamh Kavanagh is on last on the opening night of T in the Park and Eimear Quinn is guest-vocaling with Slipknot at Download. ...and they're just the more recent ones who actually WON the fcuking thing!

We tried that here except we did not use established acts. I don't think any established acts here would enter. Despite Westlife and Boyzone we don't have a huge amount of pop acts in this country that would enter this so the only people who did were the two gingers from Athlone.

Eurovision is a joke and no serious song writer would enter it any more. Could you imagine if Edge and Bono wrote a song for it and it did not win which if they entered the Ronnie Drew one, it probably would as its so crap.

It doesnt matter how much effort/talented someone is anymore ifk, thats the whole point, sweden can keep pumping money into it, it doesn't mean they are going to win, to actually take it serious and try to win it using talent, is the biggest joke of it all! :rolleyes:

Paul it's arguable that it's NEVER mattered how much talent and effort was invested. It's also arguable that the unquestionably talented ABBA were a worldwide success despite Eurovision -not because of it. But even if Eurovision was the making of ABBA ...that's one quality pop-band in what, 50-odd attempts?

some would argue that Abba arent really quality either!!!!
