WHAT an atmosphere
Byrnes delivery is excellent.
That should have been a red all day. Pure malicious elbow. Was only about 10 yards away from it. These lads don’t have any fight in them.
This is some game lads. Really unfortunate with that header hitting the bar. Jack Byrne won't be around too long if he keeps performing like that. World class performance by him tonight.
Stone Wall red there McEneff elbowed into head in front of ref. Only a yellow.
Can see Apollon ending this with ten men
Referee bottled it there allright. So unlucky not to be 3-1 up. Theres another goal here for Rovers though I feel.
Should have gone down there. Goalie gone.
Like quarebag last night, these lads are shagged. Rovers should go for the jugular and finish the tie tonight.
BIG Moment in the tie. Deserved sending off.
There's the red anyway.
Actually slightly harsh, but they were careless going into so many challenges that something was going to go wrong.
Good chance now for the third I think Rovers need
Not a bad 24 hours for the LOI
What happened there at the end? Looked like a bit of confusion as to whether the game was over or not.
Two decent results though - but those away goals will be a concern. Might get one through though
That's a huge win for Rovers.
I think they'll have to score in Cyprus next week, but what a performance by them.
1.250 for the coefficient & minimum 4 games still to go
Great win for Rovers
Great win for Rovers, only saw last 20 but they looked good value. Still a big ask going over there and 35c heat, but I said it many times before, any win by an Irish club in europe cannot be understated, they are very hard to come by.
That's Rovers and DFC unbeaten now in 6 games in europe combined so far this season! Granted no wins for us, but still !
Well done Rovers.
That's a fantastic result for Rovers. Amazing support for them tonight. The Cypriots looked out on their legs after 70 mins, but still almost found a way to get a 2nd late on. Still, Rovers know that if they don't lose over there, they are through. And Limassol are forced to alter their line-up with the red card. That's a massive incentive. It wasn't as egregious as the one that should have been, but he was out of control in the tackle. Jack Byrne, although he ran down a few blind alleys and underhit a few passes here and there at times, was outstanding. Nice that both center halves scored booming headers. Carr is an enigma. He is so ungainly and lumbering, but works his socks off for the team. Both sides can still progress in these ties.
Bert has updated already. Still 38th - where we started the season - and still very congested around there. 0.050 behind Latvia, while Armenia, Moldova, Luxembourg and Bosnia are all within 0.500. Latvia, Armenia and Luxembourg all still have three teams remaining. Had Rovers lost at home against Brann - as they were doing until 20 to go - we'd be 42nd now instead, so every result is important.
Still missing that something to replace four years ago, although we're now only dropping to 44th (as opposed to 49th at one stage) for 2021, the proposed first year of the EL2 tournament. It appears though that 29th is the first spot which means anything there, being a bye for two teams to the second round. And of course it would be nice to keep the UEFA Youth League spot
Well partly no, because the preliminary round will be gone by 2022, when the real danger is.
If EL2 is postponed for any reason, we're still only 0.375 off 48th and a preliminary round spot. And the issue still is that the countries lower than us should catch up by virtue of playing in that preliminary round.
(Also, we started in 37th, not 38th as I stated - so down one place this season)
Top class performance from Rovers.Congrats.
Well done Rovers & well played too.
Watched the last 15 mins. Great atmosphere and crowd. Could have had at least one more but still a brilliant win.
Bradley has won 40% of his games as manager in Europe, quite impressive, here's how he rates among LOI managers that managed at least 10 games in Europe:
MANAGER GAMES WIN% Paul Doolin 12 42% Pat Dolan 12 42% Stephen Bradley 10 40% Pat Fenlon 35 31% Pete Mahon 10 30% Royden Prole 10 30% Stephen Kenny 44 27% John Caulfield 16 25% Liam Buckley 26 19% Michael O'Neill 16 19% Billy Young 22 18% Dave Bacuzzi 12 17% Damien Richardson 26 15% Liam Tuohy 14 14% Jim McLaughlin 28 14% Gerry Doyle 11 9% Dermot Keely 18 6% Turlough O'Connor 20 0%
Buzzing after that looking forward to hearing to cork now.
Jack Byrne is getting better and better.
We need to score to go through I reckon they looked dangerous on the ball.
Pity that game tonight wasn't on TV, was a great showcase for the league.
Cheers DR, it's much appreciated.
Good chance of you boyos gettin out the passports next year. God help Europe, they think Brexit was bad!!!
Am away on holidays at present so only found out the Rovers score afterwards. This Rovers team have belief even when they go behind. Jack B is a magician. Think Appollen did a brann and assumed they only had to turn up to win- they are still in preseason
so fitness will be an issue for them. You'd have to assume Rovers will probably have to score over there to get through. These type of results also justify the summer
league switch imo.
KOH!
Kudos to Shamrock Rovers for a marvelous performance and result.
They made the Cypriots look very ordinary
What struck me about Rovers and Dundalk before them is that both sides started poorly enough, but finished the stronger. Usually it's the LOI team that gets worked out as the game goes on, nice to see it happening the other way round.
Seemed to be fitter in both games too, which I didn't expect.
Rovers were excellent, really impressive to see another LoI team play football and beat a good European team. Probably deserved to win by 2, but it's a great win over a group stage regular.
This Rovers vs Dundalk Europa League final is going to be mental.
Excellent performance from Rovers.
Really enjoyable to watch. Impressed by Byrne who can really deliver from a set piece.
