Saw Angels & Demons Friday night. I enjoyed it but think it is important enough to have read the book to be able to keep up. A better attempt than Da Vinci Code but still fairly rushed, probably unavoidable. Some sunstantial changes from the book, none more disappointing than the absence of Vittoria Vetra parading around in her bare legs.
The Hangover - thoroughly enjoyed this, has to be said.
Not a plot to have a massive amount of scrutiny applied to it - its all played for laughs and certainly has a few hilarious moments and a few classic one liners.
The bloke who plays the future brother in law is brilliant.
Saw my best friends girl much better than i expected your typical stupid rom com but with enough bloke jokes to get you through it.
went ot see harry potter last night, not the best or worse in the series, finally got a bit of tree dimensional caracters, not much action though i must say, but seems to be a nice lead on to the final films, id say 6 maybe 7 out of 10
I was watching Oldboy last night on Film 4 as i'd heard good things about it but i fell asleep after 20mins so i just seen the first part where he's in captivity.Knowing Film 4 though it will be on again in 2 weeks time:).
I thought Imaginary Heroes on RTE over the weekend was excellent. Really good cast as well- Emile Hirsch, Sigourney Weaver (not normally a fan) and Jeff Daniels.

Utter tripe. Considered walking out during it on more than 1 occasion, but 9 euro in just meant I couldn't bring myself to leave early.

Che Part One and Part Two:
I didn't know much about the real history of the man but i got this cause i was interested in finding out more. It was a very enjoyable movie i must say. My only problem with it is i feel it comes across slightly biased and makes him out to be an absolute hero that never did much wrong by anyone. From little bits ive read around about him it makes me feel he wasn't all great like the movie makes him out to be. As i say i don't know much about him other than what i saw in the movie so find it hard to make a true criticism of the accuracy of the film.
Watchmen:
Rentes it last night. Heard some mixed reviews about this film but i really enjoyed it personally. Couldn't put my finger on what it was about it but it was just so good. Great storyline with a very good finish to it. Think i'll be purchasing this.
Went to see Public Enemies over the weekend and I thought it was excellent, really good performances from all the cast, looked great, sounded great, couldn't find much fault with it. Only problem was the air con in the cinema seemed to be broken and it was like a bloody sauna.
Bruno: Had me in stitches in places but I couldn't escape the feeling it was more style than substance. And I have issues with just how contrived some of the scenes maybe. It was good, but it wasn't as good as Borat, and it wasn't the funniest thing I've seen all year (that honour goes to In the Loop). 3/5
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Top notch entertainment, and genuinely creep and eerie at times. Was worried it might be too boring given that the book is essentially a setup for the last in the series but thought it was a really enjoyable, really well made film. My girlfriend has never read any of the books and only seen one of the films previously which she hated but she realy enjoyed the film with the minimum of explanation so they must have done something right. 4.5/5
Going to try to make Moon and Soul Power sometime over the next week. Moon in particular looks very promising.
Would like to see Antichrist too but I'll have to go by myself as noone else I know wants to see it, and I'm rather squeemish so I'm not sure I'll make it through the genital mutilation scenes! Has anyone seen it yet?
Also for anyone in Dublin, Brief Encounter is showing tomorrow and Wednesday in Screen Cinema, Nassau Street and might be a good chance to see a classic on the big screen. Why don't more cinema's show at least one 'classic' movie a week? So many of them in the age before DVD and video releases were solely meant to be seen on a cinema screen and it's a pity there isn't the opportunity to see them more often.
i just stopped watching the curious case of benjamin button. took too long to get going just couldnt get into it really :)

Haunting in Connetticut ....awful stuff. Why is there nobody able to skillfully build suspense any more?
Anvil - Documentrary about Canadian rock band who had their 15 minutes of fame in the early eighties but because subsequent recordings were so bad nobody wanted to buy them.
The film follows them as they try to get the Band back in the public frame again. Mark Kermode called it a masterpiece which it isn't but warm, funny
and worthwhile it is.

Agree with you re: suspense, it's hard to get a really good film that is full of suspense and tension these days, they're all just by-numbers horror and the like. I saw Strangers on a Train on Monday night and was gripped by the final half of it, it was very well executed. Trying to think what the last film I saw in the cinema was that was really gripping in the same way- maybe Gone Baby Gone?Quote:

Saw Moon last night, would highly recommend it. Don't be put off by the sci-fi tag, it's more a thoughtful reflection on loneliness and what it means to be human. It's quite baffling initially but is it unfolds it becomes clearer. It's well worth your time.
