Was wondering how the club would accommodate shed side fans if that side, as has been mentioned is the first for rebuild, can’t see the current shed still being in use while under reconstruction. I was thinking current away side or behind the town goal more likely to house fans in the period of rebuilding, or they might have to a put in a temporary stand until the new structure is completely passed for safety.

With the background being the YDC a new stand on the shed side would be the perfect spot for the first build, as you could easily use the YDC for all things you need in a new stand, toilets, catering, and use the bar that is already in there. I’d also imagine the timeline to build might be quicker with already having a solid structure at the back. I’d also change the camera side, place that on top of the current main stand, plenty of space on top of the extended flat roof that covers the small terracing at the front of the stand. They could build access from within the stand for the crew.

Anyway nothing has been announced, pure speculation, but the shed side is where I would start first.

Get a ground built to replace a mess, risk going to the wall if investors leave, create a Phoenix club, buy back the name of the club and with it a roll of honour, get very cranky at the suggestion of a 'newclub', insist that the oldclub remains and that debts have been serviced fairly at couple of cent per € debt. Carry on pompously in the home that others built! It worked for other clubs in the league...

I think this is premature speculation. It seems unlikely that there will be any imminent completion of the takeover.

Yes I believe cross border drug smuggling is a big game ;) . Just the bitterness is ripe in that post, I would say.

FAI wont allow that, as they didnt allow it when we had to play home games in Monaghan and Drogheda before.

If we do have to play at a diff ground, id be all for Newry great little ground.

Naw its not bitter at all, its a well worn path in LoI. If this investment in Dundalk happens and then turns sour we can follow the examples of Cork, Shamrock Rovers, and Derry and we may have got a redeveloped ground out of it.

Do Rovers and Cork fans genuinely think that they would be playing in the fine facilities that have if there wasnt Council intervention on a derelect aborted development in Tallaght or the Munster FA doing a great job at Turners Cross? Sligo Rovers have to be lauded for what they have achieved in developing the Showgrounds without needing someone else to take the reins or intervene. In the the case of Shamrock Rovers I do think that there is a bit of short memories and selective thinking when shouting down facilities at other clubs, even Oriel Parks outdated and crumbling away section but tbh we'd probably do the same if circumstances were reversed.

Not sure of the ins and outs, but I'd say it'd be the IFA who wouldn't allow a "foreign" team play on their territory.

Much truth in what you say of course.

The flipside is, the league actually benefits in the long run from such phoenix clubs. Of course there should be no instance of clubs going bang or councils handing out stadia but had Cork City not been run into the ground a couple of times but ultimately rescued by the fans, the league would suffer dearly for our absence.

I see no reason to trust investors given what Arkaga did to Cork City and it is my absolute hope no such issue should befall Dundalk. There were sad times in Cork and a genuine fear that City were done and dusted but the people it affected directly - players and staff, well they were left holding the preverbial with families to feed and mortgages to pay. You wouldn't wish that on anyone, shiny new stadium or no.

I don’t have a problem with the system with councils going into partnership with clubs to build a stadium. It’s hard enough to get investors in to run LOI clubs let alone pour money in for redevelopment. If this method via the council like Tallaght, and soon to be Dalymount, is a realistic offer, clubs would be mad not to go for it.

In Cork’s case the ground is owned and more importantly maintained by the MFC, but all of these grounds come with a price. I understand it’s a significant monthly rental for both TC and Tallaght but look what they get in return.

No true LOI fan should like to see another club die, (some Drogs fans may disagree) and in the case of reformed versions of Derry & Cork, it’s hardly expected that each would honestly re-start at the exact point of reform, for example most will view Cork’s recent league title as the 3rd for the club not the first, would be a little pendantic to suggest it was their first. I think ‘won under new ownership’ is probably a fairer description.

I agree with you about some Celtic fans but a lot of them are sound. Also Celtic have been good to us as a club coming and playing friendlies etc.

I think a huge amount of those Irish Celtic fans are complete fools. I was in Dublin airport this morning for an early flight to London and the amount of lads wearing Celtic gear flying over to Glasgow was mind boggling. Really grinds my gears seeing all those dopes flying over every weekend, while our own league is ignored by the masses.

I have probably mentioned this before and it is well off topic but worth the digression imo. I followed behind the Aberdeen fans being escorted frm the city centre out to Tolka prior to the European game v Bohs. One lad accross the street was wearing a Celtic top when he was spotted by the Aberdeen fans. They proceeded to give him fierce abuse. The poor chap did have a clue what was going one with getting abused in Ireland for wearing a celtic top. Obviously he hadnt a notion that Aberdeen were in town for a game. and there was a big Aberdeen support - he fairly scampered off in panic!!

I wasnt suggesting above that rolls of honour should be expunged for the phoenix clubs, just that the same thing could be applied to Dundalk FC is this investment happens and at some point they walk away. So be it if it happens, hopefully we will be prepared to pick up the pieces as supporters and at least maybe there will have been ground improvements. It is never nice to see ANY league club in difficulty. Bucket collections have been held outside Oriel for clubs in trouble including Drogheda and were well supported. Was it Limerick there was €2-3k raised for in this way? and also efforts for members of the LoI community like Hanno. The right attitude to put rivalries aside at times for the collective good.

I was told today that there was a test planning application for a new stand in Oriel submitted to the council. Its not much but it is something if accurate.

I’d say far more fly over to watch English clubs play most weekends and these would be the same mob that would be the most anti England when when theworld cup etc starts.
