[QUOTE=2legged tackle;648006]Funny enough you say this the newtown LADS havent got a clue about this, they all thought there match yesterday was just called off due to weather, this is a joke that the youths arent informed about this.

I heard Declan 'Spinky' McDonald scored a spectacular goal to send Bridge United out of the Clare Cup.......good 'ol Clare People :)
Anyone know the league top scorers in the league?
I'd say Declan "spinky" McDonald must be up running away with it.
Anyone know anyone with more?
Bridge United and Newtown was played in impossible conditions at the weekend i don't think anyone wanted it to go to extra-time especially the home team as the pitch was cutting up very badly. A great strike to finish what must have been a tough game for both teams who meet again this weekend. I wonder will the pitch be playable this week? It seemed very badly cut up after the game on Sunday and don't Newtown youths have a match at home sometime this week?
[QUOTE=Brazil Nut;647863]
I have a lot to say about it.On the previous Tuesday at training the 5 u17s who play with the youths and remaining players who come from the 16s informed the club that they were not available to play on Paddys Day as they were going top the various parades so out of a panel of 19 players only 8 were available. The club informed Michael lydon that night and he stated that they should make themselves available and he was not calling of a match on Tuesday night.By Thursday /Friday the situation had not changed so Newtown informed the league and again they were told the match would not be switched so the club were informed that it would be deemed a walkover because the players should know the 17s and youths were played on alternate weekends.
If this is the case why was a 17s match on Saturday and Youths on Monday,???We were forced into this situation and never wanted to give a walkover and instead of being encouraged and assisted in keeping 17s and youths going we are being hampered.
If you have reasonable grounds for the match to be re-scheduled I don't understand why it can't be.. sounds like the Clare league are (in the words of Roy Keane.) being a bunch of muppets! If you give them nearly a weeks notice that you can't field a team I think they should at least consider it. How stupid are they to even schedule a match for St.Paddys day!?
[QUOTE=shelbourne1904;648882]look...I have to say that the league were nearly completely right not to call it off. loads of games hav been cancelled already and its a tight schedule at this stage. If the most of the Newtown 17s panel want to go off and take part in stupid, childish parades around shannon INSTEAD of playin a big cup match then let 'em f*** off and do it because that is one of the most stupid reasons to try call off a game --because of walkin around in a crap parade.fair play to lydon.i'd say somethin if they had players being forced to play gaa instead but --a parade!!for god sake.youths games wer on monday because it was a bank holiday, wats wrong wit that.jesus its a sad day to see 11 or so lads wantin to take part in a stupid parade over playin soccer..they arent REAL soccer lads anyway
Did Oly rest players for this game and get caught on the hop????
Just a simple question Hacker, can you clarify which teams got preferance to play on the Monday as I was under the impression that Cup games were down for Sunday, with League games going ahead on Monday (I could be wrong with this).
On a lighter note, have to agree with your 9 out of 10 sentiments, unfortunately, that leaves the 1 in which you can be beaten as proven last weekend.
With regards to the League and M. Lydon in particular, you will have probably noticed that a lot of fixtures have fallen foul of the weather and is weeks behind schedule and every opportunity is being taken to bring it up to scratch. If that entails playing Paddies weekend, so be it. The teams that won are not complaining.
The way the weather is continueing, we could have Summer Soccer after all.
Hacker, you must be dissapointed with the lads that let you down by not turning up or being too hungover. I cant see any reason why the matches shouldn't have went ahead on Sunday, players had enough notice. Its down to priorities, would they rather get ****ed on Paddy's day or have a chance of winning the cup? They had sunday night to go out and monday to recover FFS. I'm sure some people will disagree but thats life!
Are you referring to Mountshannon when you say Bunratty would beat them 9 out of 10 times?? If so, your having a laugh. Mountshannon are a very organised tough team to beat, and were also missing a few themselves through injury. Also a premier side!! I dont think Bunratty would beat any premier team 9 out of 10 times:rolleyes:
Wel maybe something could be done about it so,because you could easily get more than 3 teams to vote for the summer soccer,95% of clubs would definetely be in favour for it,the pitches would be alot better, the weather would be good and personally i think it would put clare soccer up a notch.
Any word on when the draw is being made for the quarter final?
Lads Im a bit surprised, but maybe I shouldnt be,that in mentioning summer football(Its called soccer in America) that noone mentioned that the Clare Schoolboy League is moving to summer from June this year. All clubs advised, seperate subcommitte has covered all possible points including, referees, already having had quite productive and positive meeting with the GAA people with a view to avoiding clashes as much as possible.
All Systems GO
I think before the cup started olympics priority was to stay up.Winning the cup or getting a good run in it will not stop you from being relegated. What it will do is hamper your chances of staying up.I was at the game on sunday and bridge b were well worth their win.Olympic were missing a lot of players but still should have came through. They tried and they were beaten end of story.
no most of the b team had a good old skip of drink paddys day...but most of the boys would have played with bad hangovers many a time before...in fairness the conditions suited more bridge celtic b as they are a big physical team...
no offence, but we could not believe how poor olympic were on the day....they didnt even look related to a premier team...
You can't beat experiance, Hungover or not and the 2 lads playing at the back were old fellas even when I hung up my boots many years ago.
The differance between the teams was not in League positions but in a will to beat a team from a higher division which is why Cup football generates so much interest. C'mon the Underdogs. Especially T.J. (The experianced player at the back from Bridge).
[QUOTE=hacker;650618]I think its a bit of a joke losing home advantage in this case particularly if the other teams pitch isn't playable. We were playing Avenue in a Munster cup game a few years ago. Both teams were togged out and the referee failed to show and told the League he inspected the pitch and called the game off. We lost home advantage.
played against him a few times in earlier years.. he usually played around midfield.. sound man indeed .. could give & take a kicking also but also a good footballer with it... tell gus to keep on playing as long as possible .. any chance of joe ahern making a comeback :)
Tonight in the Barge Rooms, Ennis @ 9pm, members of the Rineanna Rovers AFC will be partaking in a Sponsored Head Shave for St Josephs Chernobyl Support Group in Ennis, Co Clare. For anyone who wants to have a laugh at our expense (and i'm not talking about our football exploits:D :D ), please feel free to come along....
The support group do not currently have their own website, but if you are interested in finding out more about what they do, please look at the Chernobyl International website link below.
http://www.chernobyl-international.c...we_do.482.html
The group raises funds to bring children from Chernobyl to Ireland & arranges for each child to live with an Irish family during their time here. To quote the website; "For each child taken to Ireland they are "returned" two years of life. We are hostages to the hazardous aftermath of radiation, and the future of our very race is threatened with extinction, as our children, our gene pool, are seriously ill. In the midst of this tragedy we have been given hope by the people of Ireland."
Newtown 4-1 Bridge United
Newtown took a step closer to Moher at the top of the table and bossed this game throughout. The 1st goal came just on 3 minutes when Tom Ohare's cross was put into the net by Billy Maxwell, A mix up bewtween the keeper and defender put Newtown in front. The 2nd came about 5 minutes later when Ray quigley's cross field ball found David 'Egais' Egan who hit the ball on the half volley from at least 20 yards over the head of the Bridge United keeper, an absolute cracker to put the home side 2-0 up. The 3rd came from a corner when a great ball in from Trevor Maxwell was headed home with a great leap from Tom O'hare. The 4th was pretty much route one stuff when skinny blasted the ball up field a flick off the head of Cheeky and Greg Deegan, one on one with the keeper slotted home with a cool finish. United pulled a goal back but by this time they were dead and buried, 4-1 at half time and it stayed that way throughout the 2nd half. Newtown could have scored more and are really on form at the minute. It'll be tough for anyone to get a result against them at the minute.
Bossed the whole game!!!!! Be Fair, im nuetrel.. and it wasnt that easy for them the scoreline flatters newtown, you will always get more chances wen the oposition is pushing forward, bridge had good chances and alot of the ball, no penatrating forward tho...newtown had more hunger i'll admit..Bridge dont look fit..

Newtown did boss the game and had far more chances throughout. Bridge aren't half the team they used to be (imo), they have a young squad judging by their subs. It doesn't look like there will be any silverware for them this season. Corofin beaten in the cup, fair play to Newmarket finally there will be a new cup winner this year. Unlucky to Corofin, 3 in a row would have been some achievement. Any report from any other games?
