Sabah have been on top and then....a St Pats player runs through on goal and the last man for Sabah brings him down illegally and gets sent off.
For the 2nd game in a row Sabah have only 10 men!
Livescore says Sabah had their CB sent off after 27 minutes. Anyone watching the game able to say what happened? Bad tackle or a cynical one?
Pat's in such a commanding position now to qualify for the playoff. I think they'll be the first Irish team to reach that round via the league path.
Hope they actually win the game because the co-efficient could do with the 0.25 points.
I'd say the benefit of the seeding from getting through three rounds would be of more benefit tbh - would mean they'd avoid the top top teams (like Zurich and Copenhagen) for longer the next couple of seasons
LoI teams can absolutely screw this up still, but certainly makes it interesting
The game is on Youtube if it wasnt shared already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQAwb0h8hcM
Not watching the match but from UEFA it looks like they have not had a sniff.
Think the interval has come at a good time for us, looked like after a fairly even start they were caught up in not knowing how to manage the tie given they're a goal up but also now a man in this game.
1-0 Pat's; that's surely the tie 90% in the bag?
Keep it tight against ten men for 40 minutes.
Their first shot of the game I think
1 ****ING 0 TO ST PATS!!!!
2-0 on agg!
Pats 1-0 up. Definitely needed that one. Great ball by Mulraney
It was an OG by the Sabah defender after being put under pressure by Elbouzedi and Melia!
Fantastic delivery Mulreanny
Brilliant stuff from Pats. Surely through now.
Pyunik take the lead against Ordabasy - 2-0 on aggregate notes - so it's looking like Armenia for the winners.
May as well hang around where they are I guess. Lot of miles about to be racked up
Oops! You're right.
Istanbulspor about to kick off against Iberia 1999 of Georgia, 1-0 from the first leg.
Bit of a crappy Turkish side to get; I think they're the UCD of Turkey in crowd terms. So no mental Turkish atmosphere I'd say
Brilliant. Fanstic from Pats.
Delighted for Stephen Kenny
That is a great win over 2 legs for a LOI side. Best 2 legged tie result since Rovers beat Brann?
Great win. The manner of it was really impressive, even accounting for the sending off. Twas no fluke!
Great to hear the 12 Pats supporters coming over loud and clear at the end there. Pats were comfortably the better team even before the red card. Certainly were closer to scoring a second than Sabah were to getting one.
Combination of great stuff from Pats and hilariously poor from Sabah across both ties, their own fault mind. Absolutely buzzing with that, Elbouzedi signing and Palmer getting up to speed have been game changers in Europe. First time I've ever kept such a keen eye on a game between Turkish and Georgian teams!
Vikingur through. Do they play the Andorran side now? Crazy if they make groups and Rovers do not.
The rule to take the higher Co-efficient from the sides in Con Q3 vs. Lower Co-efficient from those sides in the higher competition; EL is a stupid rule from UEFA and penalises sides who win a round in CL.
Fantastic stuff from St Pats. Kenny two games away from guiding two separate LOI teams to European group stage football.
Happy for him too. Kenny obviously has something - every LOI success in Europe is a psychological giant killing and he seems to have a knack.
Jaysus if Rovers turn it around tonight the co efficient is in for some boost this year
A sweet, sweet result!!! Palmer, Mulraney, and Elbouzedi have been immense in Europe.
So Pats have 3 wins and a draw. Can any expert clarify what that does for their club coefficient and for the LOI overall one?
For the LoI, it's 3.5 / 4 = 0.875
For Pat's, if they get knocked out next round, they'd get 2.5 points (same as the sides who got knocked out at the same stage last year). The club coefficient is the lower of the national one (currently 2.275 - the average national coefficient over the past five years) or the club one, based on the rounds reached in the past five years - so for Pat's that'd increase to 5.500. This is the stat which decides which teams are seeded in a round and which aren't.
Because seedings are done based on club coefficients, you can have a regular qualifier from a crap country (like Gibraltar) being seeded over a new qualifier from a half-decent country, and so the seedings can look a bit wonky.
yes it's the Andorra team next, passers by can hear the sound of the chickens being counted in the Vikingur boardroom. A good time for all the Atlantic Islands.
The Conference seeding is a curious one. On another note I remember one of the reasons given by Uefa for the grouping of teams for the qualifier draws, was to cut out the long journeys
Who were the last non-champions to make the playoff round or the equivalent?
Istanbul it will be. 2 nil on the night and now 3-0 on agg.
