I remember an Ireland U21 match played there about 10 years ago.
They play cup and play off games there, Oscar Traynor cup games I presume are played there.
On the omni grass part of it I think that it is still either Glenhests or Fahys home pitch, could be wrong on this though

i saw them that day and they looked fairly good.
also i think they played ballynanty the year before and were very unlucky.
there are at least 11 of the panel of 23 from Sunday that were involved in the games with Fairview & Ballynanty. A lot of young players have came through since to add to the squad, it shows how much it pays to have a good youth setup.
Athenry v Waterford Crystal
should be a great final
Hearty Congratulations to all involved in Athenry. Well done on a marvellous achievement in reaching the Final.
This is made even more impressive by the fact that they have won 7 of their ties away from home. It was inevitable that one of the Galway sides would reach a final soon, but I dont think many would have said it would be Athenry. Hibs, Mervue, Salthill and Athenry have been rivals over the last couple of seasons but I'm sure everyone in the city and county will get behind them and Terryland can probably expect its biggest crowd of the season whenever the final is played.
Trivia:Would Davy Crimmons become the first man to have won both All-Ireland GAA Club Championship and FAI Junior Cup medal if Athenry prevail?
Ask Jimmy Magee!!:DQuote:

Best of luck to both teams in the final and in ye're respective senior cup draws..after all it took both team's best efforts to knock out our two remaining Limerick hopefuls in the quarter finals-Pike Rovers and UL Aisling Annacotty.
Well done to Athenry and best of Luck from Newtown FC.You beat us up there a few years ago in xtra time. The Wests Awake!!!!!
Now I wonder what song will your supporters will sing in the final????;)
With out a doubt The Fields of Athenry would be a good start.Quote:

i would expect a huge crowd for the game with lots of people from other galway junior clubs attending. hopefully the will all get behind the local team. i presume its pay on the gate. that mite lead to a bit of congestion because i rekon all the neutral galway people (if u know what i mean) will wander down to terryland at kick off time.
I would not be surprised if there was 5,000 at the game. :D  :D
If it's anything like last year it should be ok:
Positives:
- Cracking Day
- Great Pitch
- Great Atmosphere
- Mental Crowd
- We won
Negatives:
- Traffic Congestion
- Buying tickets at door with 500 people trying to get in
- Warm 7-up etc from shop
Best of luck to both teams. I might get out of the 'Section 8' ward and come down to lend my voice. My loyalties are undecided - Feel for Crystal as it's their second final in as many years, while the patriot in me says 'keep it West of the Shannon'.
i played against you thenQuote:

Then there will have to be big screens put up for the estimated 1,500 extra fans that may turn up for the game. Would be a major embarrassment for the FAI Junior Council if there was a lockout of supporters.Quote:

2,000 from Athenry, 500 + Galway football people and a couple of hundred from Waterford.
id be surprised if that many turned up for the game. i agree with terry. terryland is suitable.Quote:

waterford crystal 1
athenry 0
after extra time
halloran 105
i knew they would win,,,
Was at the game. Athenry had some good opportunities, looked lively going forward. Crystal defended well and were organised. One goal was all that was needed to settle the game and it was only going to come via a set piece or mistake. Well done to Crystal, it really atones for last year. Athenry brought a great crowd and their day may come. Some of the Athenry fans, including a young boy I was talking to were not impressed with the match officials.
Go on the Crystal. No team deserves it more.
Paul Wyse, Robbie Butler and Niall Butler were outstanding.
The cup is back where it belongs in the south east!
Good crowd at the game in acess of 2000 poeple well done to waterford hard luck to athenry.
To be fair the best team won on the day, Athenry didn't show there best form they were afraid to attack they put to many poeple behind the ball which gave to much space to Waterford.
The game it self was good and kept their supporters on there feet to the end.
The Athenry keeper A Cronnin kept them in the game for long peiods with some fine saves while at the other end Waterford's keeper will say he had an easier day No shots on target.
with the game heading for penos 3min remain when waterford made 2nd change his first touch found the back of the net.
thats the way it ended. The stat oil cup heading south.
Athenry should take a leaf out of waterford book. there is always next year.
I saw your flag on display behind the scoring goal last night.Quote:

2. Never give up. Crystal were 10 seconds from going out in round 4 against Tramore.
3. The amazing suppport Westport had last year. Athenry is only a stones throw from Terryland and they managed to bring 1500 fans. Westport brought 4000 fanatics all the way to Kilkenny and they sang for 90mins. Not taking anything away from Athenry fans who were excellent but not a patch on the Mayo lads.
My heart goes out to the Tribesmen but nobody can deny that the Crystal lads and club deserve this. They must hate to see us come up. In the last 3 seasons we have played Mervue, Galway Hibs, Salthill Devon twice and Athenry. The lads have won all 5 games and not conceeded a goal!
Magic!
Yes Congrats on ye win well done and thanks for the compliment :)Quote:

It was always gonna be decided by 1 goal either way and i don't think either team could complain if they lost it as no one really took control of it.
must take issue with you on the crowd. the main stand in terryland takes 3500 and it was 90% full nearly all athenry supporters. thats not counting the crowd around the perimiter. considering athenrys total population is hardly that anyway it was a great turnout.
The main stand has 1700 seats and would hold at tops 200 standing along the back.Quote:
