I dont know if it would make much sense to do a Cabinteely if they can filter in to an established senior club. The Cabinteely experiment and its success or failure would certainly be an indication for other such clubs on whether to go it alone or find a link up.
Is there much of a League of Ireland following around Malahide or is it even a big enough area for a League of Ireland club? Town itself only has a small enough population at 15,000. Would be a bit of a mistake in my view if they ever considered League of Ireland. Link up with Dundalk is a great move for them though.
Cabinteely might just be the most important teams to enter into the league in recent times, if they are a success, it might encourage other clubs with well established youth structures in Dublin to try there luck too.
One of the biggest problems with league of Ireland is the (elite) lack of youth structures. This might end this. Interesting Times for the Future of Dublin Clubs.
Cricket Oval wuld be the best surface in the league :p
Future of Dublin clubs Kiki?? I doubt such a link up with a youths club and a senior club is unique but is certainly the type of venture that all senior clubs should be looking at if they haven't already. If it is a success and some Malahide lads get in to the Dundalk side at some point it may well help to close the 'rift' between the various levels of football in Ireland. Junior and Intermediate footy could be an outlet for players on loan too if game time is needed to toughen up at senior levels...maybe.
Bohs have close links to Belvedere, Shels to Kevin's off the top of my head. Bray had Joey's but that's hit the rocks. I'm guessing they were all informal links whereas this is an actual formal link-up. I assume Vinny Perth was a major part of this one.
Local papers are reporting that the Youths are interested in signing Robin Dempsey and Paul Murphy from North End with Waterford showing an interest in Adam Beary from the same club.
Youths are losing their six IT Carlow players in mid-summer to the World University Games in Korea so they could probably do with additional coverage.
What's the story with Damien duff lads?? Is he definitely coming in the summer or is it not 100%. And who is he going to, can only be dundalk or rovers surely??
Supposedly Shams and coaching their under 17s
There's defnitely a link up between the Drogs and Glebe North from Balbriggan. Under 19 players , well those who are finished at 19s level, going there for experience n LSL Senior.
I'd say you wouldn't be too far out if you said UCD!
Not as if Malahide is completely cut off from all around it in fairness.
If Malahide were to join and be successful, they could draw fans from Swords, Portmarnock, Howth, etc
If they were to join and not be successful, they'd probably be another average- to low-attended First Division team.
I know which is more likely tbh. But I wouldn't restrict their potential fan base as just Malahide because of their name.
Strange!
Still, the general point should stand that there's no point looking at a Dublin suburb's population and calling that its catchment area.
Hi lads.
I was just wondering when does the Transfer Window open ?
July 1st AFAIK
Thanks lads.
Credit to Iorfa2MaccaJim for taking the high road there. Nigel, for shame.
The bait just wasn't strong enough it seems.
It must be time now for the biannual Towell moving to England rumour to start. Come on now lads...
Towell to England. Fact.
NEWS FLASH
Fyffes mole battered by mad Towell
Briuk
Wexford Youth players going to Korea in July are Stephen Last, Andy Mulligan, Dean Broaders, Jonny Bonner, Seamus Houghton and Eric Molloy.
Massive blow to Youths there. Only one that wouldn't really be playing is Houghton, so to lose five first team players is some loss for a team pushing promotion places.
Are UCD losing any players to this? You'd think if IT Carlow are affected they would be too!
Waterford are losing Matthew Connor, Brian Nolan and Dylan Mernagh
Drogheda losing Jake Corrigan
Shelbourne losing Alan O'Sullivan
Most of the rest of them are LSL players as well as Manuel Kaguako and Noel Haverty who are without clubs.
1 player from UCD, Alan McGreal who plays for Crumlin United.
