This result really disappoints me and once again forces the point the TSDL should maintain the premier division at eight teams i.e. one up, one down at the end of this season. This is totally demoralising for Galbally. Wasn't at the game but heard St.Michaels rested five players and could have doubled the tally. Galbally are repeating what happened St.Nicholas and Rosegreen in recent years - they almost went out of football when promoted. Fact is there isn't nine teams good enough for premier. Its all about enjoyment - getting a 7-0 hiding at home is not enjoyment for Galbally and St.Michaels can hardly get much pleasure out of it either.Quote:

in any league you have teams that are on the receiving end of big defeat's and particularly as galbally have been resigned to relegation for most of the season and have only played 1 or 2 games in the last month v a team in the last 8 of both fai and munster junior cup's and going for their first prem lge in a few year's there was only going to be 1 outcome here im afraid. galbally beat st mich's in cooke park a few year's back and had this game been at start of season where circumstances were different u can rest assured it would have been alot closer on the scoreboard imo.
nononsense saints started with derek breen, paul tobin, chris higgins, paul breen, jimmy carr, richie ryan,thomas fahey, shane guerin pa quinn and john connery. chalkie was injured only two others who prob would have started were foggy and trevor cosgrave who were subs. so dunno where you are going with resting 5 players. saints clicked on the day and played well. galbally have lost 5 of there starting team from last season and at least 2 0r 3 squad players. so this season was always gonna be a struggle with a squad of 14 players. The score was 3-0 after 70 minutes and considering galbally only had 11 players on the day 2 of whom played with vomiting bug and no sub i dont think this result is as demoralising as u say to an already relegated side who were just fufilling a fixture.
Fair enough the game is about enjoyment but one 7-0 beating of a team who are undefeated in all competitions is not gonna totally demoralise a team who knew they were severly understrength on the day and up against it. in every league in the world there will be a result like this at some stage in the season, so i cant see how this dissappoints you so much. i think this was the 1st occasion in tsdl premier division this season that a team conceeded more than 5 goals so its not as if it has been a regular thing
just to back up republicans point when saints played galbally at start of this season in cooke park game finished 4-2 .
I appreciate all the points above and all made well. However, I will stand over my view the premier league should be kept to eight teams. Fair play to Galbally for fielding a team but look at what happened to Rosegreen and St.Nicholas when in premier, both gave two walkovers each, just avoiding going out of football. St.Nicholas are having an excellent season (as Galbally did last season) but quite a few within the club are not keen on premier football next season should they finish 1st or 2nd (once bitten etc etc). Galbally are looking forward to going back to the first division next season.
what is the story with the league now? it will probably go down to the final day game of the season with town and st michaels?? who is home in this fixture?
The 2nd Division is coming to an end and theres a possibility of a 4 way playoff depending on results,Clonmel Town B and Cashel Town B should be an interesting game with Clonmel Town just needing a point to win the league and Cashel needing a win to force a playoff could be well worth a watch.Glengoole and killenaule also are still well in the hunt for a playoff as well could be a very exciting sunday in that division.
what about wilderness rover's they didnt even win the 1st div last season and still stayed up comfortably the difference being they realised they would have to strenghten their panel if they were serious about stayin up, its too easy to just say 'ah wer not good enough for this lge' wilderness have just proved that if you have a plan it can be done.

there could be a good bit of restructuring next season. 4th division has bit of history of losing a few teams so there might not be ten teams left in that by next season. also rumours doing the rounds kilmanahan are folding up at the end of this season. plus i know of 1 other club who may be going down a similar road at end of year but dont wanna mention it on here yet
Balls, we must move in the same circles, I have heard rumours also. Some clubs struggling in 4th division. Mullinahone already gone and Moyglass B gave a walkover last week. Also Ballyneale at the end of many hidings this season although fair play to them they plug away. I know of one prominent team devastated due to emigration so, as you say, quite a bit of restructuring may be necessary. The TSDL committee of next season can do nothing until the applications come in July so it is correct no decisions are made until then. Could be a few notable absentees.Quote:

In Waterford there is NO discussion on local radio. Now whether this is because Carrick Utd. have been the dominant force , I dont know. Suffice to say that games from other codes take up all the time which, to say the least, is an insult to all those involved in our game, schoolboys included.

Maybe the reason no one talks about the league is it is a poor league..rubbish even. top 2 hammering teams, teams who are struggling to get a panel together for a game..too much football on tv..not many going or interested in junior matches and particularly watching teams being beatin 4,5,6 or 7 nil..1st division probably most exciting at times..better games..more even teams...saints will continue to dominate the league and cup competitions with their structure..only challenge they have is pike or fairview who have the same structures, all this said clubs will struggle financially because not many going into watch these games. they might win things but are struggling.
It's not just Soccer that people are not going to watch all codes GAA and Rugby will tell you crowds have gone down a lot over the last 2 years. People are just not willing or able to pay to watch amateur sport anymore, only so much money to spend and amateur sport seems to be low on most people's lists.
Junior football will always have clubs who will win more than others , its the nature of football from the top down. But at junior level it is much more than just about winning. The purpose of the local club is to provide football, primarily for those who want to play the game.Quote:

You are right Balls. Just to note also, St.Michaels had their second biggest crowd of the season last night versus St.Nicholas. Despite all their home cup games on Sundays this season, their biggest was on a Sunday night last September under lights, a league game against Clonmel Celtic. The moral of the story is St.Michaels should play all their games under lights. Sundays have too much competition from live games on TV.
Looking forward to the Town/Villa game sunday,last year we had the famous goal and abandoned game,there is always drama and i think Villa have a couple of young players that have progressed this season that might come into this under the radar,might be a lot closer than people think,i am going to go for Villa to win it 2-1

Clonmel town beat peake villa 5nil today i heard, a fare bating but i suppose it was to be expected.
Borris had a big win today in division1, beating moyglass 2-1.

Good team selection there, very strong. Might make two changes. I would have Ritchie Ryan in attacking midfield and put David McGrath up front instead of Padraic Fogarty. Wonder would Cosgrave be better than Bargary in midfield? Wonderful to see such commitment from the TSDL team this season - much of the credit for this must go to manager Mick O'Brien who has instilled new pride in the squad. The TSDL are really up against it as Wexford demolished Clare in last years final but with a repeat of the display against Cork A.U.L they can do it. Its a game that deserves support. Yes I heard the show. The TSDL wouldn't be known for their communication skills. Although I cant stand the man, Walsh to be honest is very good on all sports but shouldn't be talking about football.Once again he gave no credit to Town on their fine win against Peake in the Tipperary Cup. Plus eventhough Carrick only won 2-1 in Cork, he still when asked wouldnt revise his view on Town's performance. Then he gives a resounding thumbs up to Michael's and only has great things to say about them. Please dont tell me he is neutral. He dislikes Town and cant hide it. Yes he attends matches but I know from talking to people within the club, that he is very, very bitter towards them. I dont wish to drag up what happened last year but he left the club, nobody asked him to. Yet he goes on the radio and has a go at Town. i dont think that should be allowedQuote:
