Who was that win against i wonder:D
Bit of an overstatement to say they ran the show. Bunratty scored early enough in the first half, BC scored half way through the second half (OG). Both sides had 3/4 very good chances to score that weren't capitalised on. 3 Sending offs (two for a handbags type flare up, one for a subsequent tackle) happened late in the game when nerves were getting frayed with the importance of the game to both sides. Nothing much in them - none should be worthy of a 3 game ban. The game was tough but probably not helped by the tendency of this particular referee to let the game flow too much early on giving licence for harder tackling from both sides that will always result in tempers flaring in a tight match.
Important point for the rats in stopping a rot of league losses but a long way to go to be anywhere near safe. It will be one of the tightest relegation fights in years with 7 teams capable of being dragged into it.
Any one know the full draws for both junior and youths cups?
Draws now on www.claresoccer.net
Cheers Bossman...Very interesting draws. Two good ties between Newmarket and Rineanna and Avenue and Bunratty. It cud be the year where we see a team from the lower division make the final and cause a shock as this draw is suited to them. As for Avenue Im delighted with the draw. We played bunratty in the league few weeks ago and played them off the park with football but couldnt score. More of the same again i think...
Interesting Cup draw. Predictions ????????
Lifford to overcome Tulla
Tough away win for Newmarket
Avenue after extra time or penalties
Home advantage to count for Mountshannon
Townies dream draw, Tage to go through
Olympic after extra time or penalties
Newtown B to put and end to Corofin Bs gallop
Cup specialists Corofin A to overcome Kilrush.
Not blowing anyones trumpet. Bunratty have home advantage and alot of pride to play for but if we play to our capabilities then we should have enough. I never said we would win easy.
Hacker - how do ye fancy yer chances against the fellow parishioners? I think ye might beat them. I saw the league game a couple of weeks ago and ye were very unlucky not to win it never mind draw it.

you remind me of a guy that use to post here called the boss...
he kept on throwing out smart comments about how lifford played teams off the park...and how we beat them world beaters....
i wonder are you the boss in disguise...
Dont worry hacker im still here.
Just like newmarket this year we are doing our talking on the pitch thats all.
i waited for the clare poeple and their expertise(!!!!!!!) before puttin my comments about the cup online
and the paper agreed with me, there is huge gulf between the top of the premier and the top of the 3rd.. as i had said befoer the game avenu would have to have a very bad day before rhine would have a ny chance and so it proved
avenue totally dominated the game and won as easily as the score line said, could have been a lot more but their happy with that and happy with the draw,
and before being a ccused of being arrogant with that last line, when ur a top team u enjoy being drawn against the best teams possibel( not saying bunratty are!!) but u are going to have to beatr the best along the way, theyd rather play a prem team then a lower div team any day
Exactly.Totally agree with you.In order to win the cup you need to beat the best. and we will!![/QUOTE
best of luck to you .. but your comments here won't help your chances .. i'm sure a few clubs out there will fancy a crack at avenue now :ball:
Avenue 1990... (is that your date of birth ?)
You mean you had to read the match report just to make sure you didn't embarass yourself by saying something incorrect...
If you were at the match, surely you would know who was the better team,
and not have to read it in the paper....
There is a gulf in class between the top of the Premier and the top
of the 3rd Division....
There'd be something wrong if there wasn't....
But the gulf between the 3rd and Premier Divisions is not as huge as you'd like to think...
Rhine Rovers are capable of giving any Premier Division side a game
(with the exception maybe of better sides like Avenue and Newmarket)...
As for the draw....
Would you not be happier with Newtown B or Corofin B since the gulf is so huge ? :o
Avenue 1990... (is that your date of birth ?)
1990 relates to sunday 6th of may 1990. is that enough of a hint for you.
mayigi, if u read it properly i was sayin lest i be accused of arrogance by sayin avenue totally outplayed rhine i waited till the paper backed me up by agreeing totally with me. how could i say something incorrect? unless u consider rhine scoring a goal against them as a major achievement and they would see that as a moral victory
pathetic attempt at the use of sarcasm
just to clear upsomthing. avenue beat rhine rovers because they were ready for them. it was a potential banana skin. we treated them with repect they deserve. they are not a 3rd div team ra 2nd for that matter. i'd even go as far as predict they will be a prem team in 4 years. they seem to have a very good manager, good players and their training sessions look good. we approached the game in the right frame of mind and got the result we wanted and deserved. yes we would like to have a lower team but we have been kicked in the teeth by b team before most noteably avenue b. sometimes its easier to play a top team in that respect. people that know soccer will know what i'm on about? as for bunratty on their day can beat any team as i believe they have under acieved with their squad this year. their is a fine line between confidence and arragance.(ie the boss) yes we are confident we can beat them or any other team for that matter but not arragant to know that we could be beaten just as easy. newmarket have that belief and swagger this year (with good reason) and i wouldn't call it arragance. if you don't go into every game believing u can win stay at home.
that'd be about the size of it
Just a question about Rhine Rovers. Do they still play in Quinn in the same pitch??
Dont think so. They play their home games on the lower pitch of the fairgreen or sometimes in Lee's Road.
Avenue v Kildysert - home win
Newtown v Bridge Celtic - home win
Burren v Lifford - Away win
Moher v Newmarket - Home win
Bunratty v Rineanna - home win
Avenue back on top after the weekend. Whats yer views on the relegation battle?
darly eade playing well with avenue?
The relegation battle is going to be one of the closest in years by the looks of things.
I have been away for a while but apart from the top 3 everyone else seems to be involved.
Burren, Moher and Bunratty are all playing at home the weekend and will be looking for 3 points but everone is scrapping for results so I don't think any of the teams will have it easy.
Newtown ( going on their cup runs ) look to be the strongest of the sides down there and will probably be the more confident of all the sides of getting out of trouble.
Will the curse that hit Bridge Utd last year hit Bridge Cel this year and get relegated after winning the Premier?
Will the curse that hit Bridge Utd last year hit Bridge Cel this year and get relegated after winning the Premier?
This happened to Newtown last time they league was won. I know the year after they won it, most of the squad left and had to field B-team players that couldn't get a game with the B-team.
Not saying that Bridge Celtic will go down this year but
is the same problem happening out in Bridge Town.
Avenue v Kildysert - home win
Newtown v Bridge Celtic - home win
Burren v Lifford - Away win
Moher v Newmarket - away win
Bunratty v Rineanna - draw
Reckon its too hard to call between lifford, avenue and newmarket for the title but they will make up the final 3 come the end of the season.
newtown will finish fourth in my opinion and could have been a title challenger had they not dropped needless points
As for the relegation side of the league, i agree that it will be tight but i can see kildysart and burren going straight down with bunratty in the play-off.
I would just like to congratulate Rhine rovers on winning the clare leagues team of the month for February. Just incase ye might think i was a bit down on them last week before cup game against Avenue:rolleyes:
"Reckon its too hard to call between lifford, avenue and newmarket for the title but they will make up the final 3 come the end of the season."
1st Avenue, 2nd Lifford, 3rd Newmarket
newtown will finish fourth in my opinion and could have been a title challenger had they not dropped needless points - true

Afraid I have to agree with you tulla b.
If it is as the award suggests a team of the month then what is the criteria for winning it. I won't take anything away from Rhine Rovers who have had a phenominal season and are probably the most improved team in the whole league and deserve any accolades that come their way.
Do the clubs know what is needed to win this award? I think not.
Glad that its not just for the top teams though but would like to know how its judged if anyone out there knows.
