My 'reaction' is that I think Seani deserved it more but McEleney had a good month too. Certainly don't find these awards something to get as excited about as you seem to though. The writing off any comment by a City fan rather than actually discussing it is tedious. It really stops any actual discussion from happening. Apart from Dundalk's year in Europe last year - which could be considered a bit of an outlier - Dundalk only won through 1 tie in the other 3 years Kenny has been at the club ; against Jeunese Esch - the rest were aggregate defeats to Split, BATE and Rosenborg. The measure of any successful team is to perform consistently in Europe and to win consecutive trophies. I've no doubt winning the league in 2016 while playing in the group stages until Dec was one of the best achievements by any previous league winning side. That's the standard of great team.
Cork are a very good side and have potential to improve, but they need to back it up year on year, i wouldn't be surprised to see them starting next season as second favourites.

He was decent enough for us last season especially because I thought he was played out of position a fair bit ( I had him down as a winger but he seemed to play behind the striker a lot) and was slightly disappointed when he left but he hasn't really played at all for Derry this season.Quote:

Dundalks achievement last year was essentially a repeat of what Rovers achieved in 2011, both went on to not retain their league title, I suspect largely due to the extended european campaigns for both sides & the impact it had on their close season dealings. This is a barrier that will be hard for teams to overcome IMO, mostly due to the clubs simply not being set up for such a compacted close season & having to sign players to replace ones that have left. Signing players on longer term contracts will help but to do that you need the european prize money as domestically it simply isn't there, so there's a chicken & egg situation to be dealt with. Hopefully over time clubs will develop to deal with this, but for now its looking like a tough situation to handle. Though to be fair we only have Rovers & Dundalk to look at really.Quote:
