Difference between interest and offering a contract I guess
Jamal Ibrahim has resigned for us from Athlone Town according to Longford Leader.
I'd say he'll do well in first division. He didn't start that many games for us last season as we usually played Amond on his own up front but he showed flashes of promise. Ye will have a big Waterford influence there next season with Griffin, O'Keeffe and Conor Coad the coach who led Villa to great success.
Shels have signed Scottish midfielder Kerr McInroy, he was previously coached by Duff when both were at Celtic
After being expected to sign a couple of weeks ago, Darragh Burns is stalling on agreeing personal terms with rovers and is now talking to Grimsby Town of League 2 according to Dan McDonnell

Three weeks to go and Rovers are a lot further off a decent squad than i would have expected.
It says something Rovers with the injection of UEFA millions are finding retention and recruitment a challenge competing with League 2 clubs who many of those clubs currently bleeding money on big wages due to the shrinking pool of decent talent coming through the English domestic system at all levels
Grimsby have to be offering big wages plus lengthy contract to Burns because otherwise you have thought Burns would have been snapping at any decent contract offer from Rovers considering he didn't exactly rip things up last season and he most certainly flopped with MK Dons at the exact same League 2 level
I see Jamie Gullan was training with Bohs and they opted not to sign him, I'm happy with that but it makes you wonder have they someone better lined up??
I think they are just being a bit more selective with who they sign. Long overdue imo with the multi year deals we've been stung paying some absolute donkeys of players the last few seasons. Ultimately if Gullan couldn't outplay James Clarke then there's no point in signing him because hed be 3rd choice striker behind a midfielder.
Totally agree, I don't think Gullan was going to add quality to Bohs so better being a bit more selective and wait. However we don't have long to get someone and if it goes wrong in the first few matches we'll hear the same old "we are gelling as a team" comments in the post match interviews
How much of that is down to burns’ agent trying to sniff a few more bob from rovers though?
When you’re flush and have been telling everyone about it, the problem then is player, or rather players agents, will add a nice round 40% on to every offer.
Bohs have lost out on four almost signed players, because the ask on wages was ridiculous for our level.
Clubs are definitely over paying for players in a league where the very best players are distinctly average.
Shels new signing has come with a hefty weekly pay packet agreed, so themselves rovers Derry and pats are definitely over paying.
Yeah that is a concern and I'd wager the doom and gloom merchants on social media are banging the "spend less time on jerseys and more on players drum". Fwiw I think the signings made suit the style of play which is good because there were far too many square pegs in round holes last year.
Fair to say that whoever's Trialist No 5 for Cobh against Killarney Celtic will be given a contract - two goals and an assist before HT!
I think this year Reynolds got the players he wanted and not pushed on him by Fenlon or on a last minute shopping spree in Eastern Europe. So there shouldn't be any gelling comments. Bohs emptied the dead wood quickly and brought In a few players quickly but then it stopped just as quickly. I still think we need two more..LB and a striker with pedigree. Who will they be??
I doubt we'll get anyone with any type of pedigree. Why would they come to us really? We'll get someone in on loan most likely and they will provide cover for Clarke and Whelan. I thought Clarke grew into the striker role decently towards the end of last season. I feel like Reynolds sees him more in that position than in midfield now with the amount of other options available there.
If we take FAI connect to be a source of truth (which I pretty much am), Joshua Giurgi has signed for Longford Town a second time after his 2023 spell. Was playing with Maynooth last year
How do people see those transfers on FAI connect?
Ah alright you've actually to search for names, some lads on here must have a lot of spare time haha, cheers
you can just type "Longford Town" into the player search and all their registed players will be top of the list
Dundalk have signed defender Ethen Vaughan from Brighouse Town who lie third from bottom in the 8th tier of English football. I’d genuinely love to know how in the name of god a player at that level even comes onto the radar of Dundalk, even as a first division club
Young lads coming though the 19s in the league must despair when they see players of that level being signed, along with all the loanees3thst will inevitably arrive over the coming weeks
Not to cast any judgements on the lad without knowing anything about him but after the disastrous lower level signings of last season you'd think Dundalk would be staying out of that market, especially when they are going to have to house these fellas, it's just unnecessary expense for a club playing in the first division.
Listen it's not like Dundalk have a history of financial mismanagement in their recent past. I'm sure they can manage their expenses perfectly well. Sure the FAI were supposedly all over their budget and it's not like the FAI would make mistakes about budgets or potential owners
Intrigued by Wexford who signed a Canadian lad from the Premier Intermediate league up North, far far away from a great standard but maybe he's above it.
I'm almost certain a decent amount of of these obscure signings are made just to keep certain agents and contacts onside in the hope of getting someone better down the line.
Yes there is a definitely a strong element of that in these random UK/Foreign imports but with so many LOI clubs including Dundalk repeatedly getting severely burned with UK/foreign junk courtesy of these agencies/contacts I can only conclude there is a mix of stockholm syndrome going on within the league along with lack of proper investment in the development of players emerging through the underage leagues
I don't think it's as bad at Rovers as some people have been making out. Rovers will be ok, they had a very big squad last year. At the moment they've 4 keepers, 4 CBs, 3 WBs (Sean Kavanagh back training with the squad also). Multitude in midfield of 9 or ten players. 3 strikers. 3 new signings in and Burt back from loan. The likes of Honohan, Greene and Burke can play in different positions also. Would still like to see an extra utility defender/WB and a striker but I'm sure they are looking at plenty of options at the moment. Still talking to Mandriou also by all accounts.
The loan market while benefitting Rovers, is also a hinderance to them when it comes to retaining players. Kenny and Burns two big losses.
If Kenny is not going to play at Celtic then it makes sense for him to come back to Rovers until the summer. He can't join another club on loan until next season anyway.
His mother and agent both put up posts in which they included quite odd subtle digs at Rovers for playing him out of position (at wing back rather than an out-and-out winger).
