Slightly surprisingly, we're still ranked 32nd after all that, though it's getting tighter. In fact there's three countries level in 32nd, of which Latvia have a team in the CL path of the Conference League, which should be easier to get points from.
Behind us, Finland have at least four games to come as HJK are in the CL Europa League path and probably favourites to reach at least the Conference League groups. Kosovo have a match against the Gibraltar champions next, Kazakhstan have three teams left (including Tobol against Derry, and Astana who have at least four matches left and should make the Conference League groups you'd imagine)
Even the Faroes have two teams left, one of which has four qualifying games and a group stage to come. Group stage gives a bonus point by itself and then carries double points.
We could be looking at finishing this season around 36th - which is where we finished last season too, but (and I think we've done this before) we dropped a bad year five years ago off our coefficient only to replace it with another bad year. That's on top of the questions being beaten out the door by sides from Iceland and Luxembourg raises
I don't know what to make of Derry's chances next week. Tobol were a bit lucky to beat Basel - who had two players sent off and conceded three goals in 15 mental minutes at home. But they got back level in Kazakhstan early enough yet Tobol not just held on but scored again to win it.
Derry v Shakhtor Soligorsk is the game that stands out - one where you thought Derry had a chance but they got stuffed instead. But hopefully they can set least get a home result
UCD v Derry postponed this week.
Another random LoI link - KÍ of the Faroes play Molde next. Sivert Gussias of KÍ is ex-Molde - scored for them against UCD in the Youth League in 2017. Leo Řstigĺrd (now Napoli) scored the other two. Erling Haaland scored in the shoot-out. Three others are playing top flight in Norway or Sweden. Neil Farrugia is the only player of note from the UCD team. On another day if the ball drops slightly differently on 1 or 2 occasions, we knock them out. I don't think it's fully appreciated even sometimes by our own selves just how far we've came as a club in recent years and we still aren't done yet going by showings like that. All of this done too without a sugar daddy like the IFA, Kenny Bruce or Ali Pour pumping us full of money, no handouts from anyone, no one but our own fans, working class people from the area, coming in to save us when we were on the brink of liquidation in 2005. It was all done on our own merit.

Reason for the change is that we need 4.5k seats in the Brandywell, we only have 3.7k. With the new safe standing terrace going in over the winter, it won't be an issue in the future.

Kazakhstan isn't so much of a nightmare logistically as it is cost-wise. Initial quotes for a charter seemed to be €300k plus. Though UEFA give an extra €20k for such distances, generous. Only know of one fan going so far, living in Moscow.
There was an interesting piece in the sun on that Derry game. Club coefficient was huge in thef finnish clubs favour! Some coup for Derry City delighted for them. Think momentum in the league is in their favour at long last!
If you look through the draw for the non champions path, it is one of the better draws compared to other sides they could have gotten. It won’t be easy at all but they will have a chance I think, especially if they perform like they did against KuPS. The win over Basel was definitely Tobol’s biggest win in Europe and they had a large slice of luck in the 1st leg playing against 9 men. Time for one of our sides to win one of these 3rd round ties to get into the PO Round.Quote:

Changes are coming on this front from next season onwards, which is will make things easier for smaller clubs, so good news there.
