FAI JUNIOR CUP RESULTS
PIKE ROVERS 8-0 BELLURGAN
ST MICHAELS 4-0 WICKLOW ROVERS
BALLINASLOE 0-1 ST PETERS
CLONMEL TOWN 0-1 ATHENRY
CARRICK UTD2-3 NORTH END
CAVAN TOWN 3-2 GALWAY HIBS(AET)
carrick going out probably biggest shock, every thing else really went as predicted. great wins for pike rovers and saint michaels
while i believe its pikes FAI to lose given their powerful squad ,a last 16 match finishing 8 nil is a poor reflection on the standard in this years cup.
Carrick beaten by a very average North End outfit. Poor first half saw them 3-0 behind at the interval. They re grouped in the second half scoring twice could and really should have taken the game to extra time. Mac Sherry a huge loss on the day with Sconny Walsh, now in Aussie, also missing badly at number 5. James Walsh was also missing from a defence that was all over the shop in the opening half. North End scored a cracking opening goal, the second a questionable peno, the third while well finished resulted from poor defending. North End defended on a wing and a pray at times in the second half, they had one sent off late on. Carrick scored twice, hit the metal work twice and missed some other good oppertunities. North End always looked dangerious on break aways, a big physical team with pace up front and some good ball players. Can't see them going any further. Some poor refereeing also quite a few heavy challanges going un punished. Carrick should have had a peno in the opening half also. Great excitment but no junior cup winner on show here.
Who do ye think is probably the vest player so far this year?
Who do ye think is probably the vest player so far thisar?[/QUO to hard to call.
I think myself the PIKE ROVERS oieient exprss is unstoppable time will tell .ITwill be a very good team to stop them.
be en looking at all the clubs of limerick everyone puts inthier 100 presnt ,that speaks mulitudes
Bitterly disapointed after yesterday going down to a gallant North End United in the end we gave ourselves too much to do, 3 nil at half time was not a fair reflection of preceedings, NE had 3 forrays into the carrick half and scored 3 times the 2nd was one of the worst decisions I have seen in Junior football in a long time, Carrick piled on the attack for much of the game as said in an other posts a combination of good defending and pure luck saw NE through, they were out on their feet for the last 15 mins but to no avail we couldn't findf that elusive equalliser. Best of Luck to North End in the quarters but to be honest St Michaels should progress.
Is this the quarter final draw?
Athenry v Pike
St Michaels v North End
Ballynanty/Sherriff v St. Peters
Carrick Rvrs/New Ross v Cavan Town
Pike will have to be on their game up in Athenry, Athenry are a strong side who have won the Connacht Cup 3 of the last 4 seasons.
St Michaels should have too much for North End, but I suppose we all thought Carrick would have too much for them too
Ballynanty/Sherriff is a tough one to call, even tougher when the winners have to play St. Peters
Cant imagine anybody would've predicted that one of Carrick Rovers, New Ross Celtic or Cavan Town would be a FAI semi finalist
best of luck to all teams
Some results for pike and St.Michaels. really showing why they are two of the tournament favourites with very impressive wins.
reckon pike will have their work cut out against what looks a very good Athenry side, but as usual looks like Pike could be steamrolling their way to more and more finals this year.
By the sounds of it, St.michaels should also progress, heard North End looked very average in beating a poor Carrick side on the day.Sheriff and New Ross Celtic to complete my semi-final line up.
Well done Pike, great result yesterday.

Cavan Town’s remarkable run in the FAI Junior Cup continued with a sensational extra time victory at home to top Connaught side Galway Hibernians and their exploits have now taken them to the quarter finals of the most prestigious competition in junior football. In an evenly contested match which saw Cavan take the lead early on with a well struck effort from Brendan Smith, only to see Galway level matters before the break. Smith was on hand mid way through the second half to restore the advantage for Cavan, but once again Galway equalized to bring the tie to extra time where a Michael Smith penalty put away in confident fashion put his side in the last eight, and only one match away from the FAI Senior Cup draw should they qualify for the semi finals. Carrick Rovers will be hopeful of joining them when they host top Wexford side New Ross Celtic next Sunday.
Don't know where all this talk of North End being an 'ordinary side' comes from. Having seen both games in Clonmel and Carrick over the weekend I would say NE were easily the pick of the 4 teams. They have some very nice footballers in their squad (1st goal yesterday the best goal I've seen in a long while) a decent midfield and defence and a very solid goalkeeper - excellent yesterday and on another time I've seen him play for Oscar Traynor team against Waterford.
As for 'Town and Carrick - I think all their lines are weak / weakened for varying reasons. Both defences are very unsure - changed back 4s again which is leading to lack of understanding and authority by a dominant figure. Town's midfield has never replaced Paul Scully - John Shanahan continues to be played in defence which makes no sense. Comerford - haven't seen what the fuss was about. Carrick's midfield is dependant on Wayne Fitzgerald - young Burke is a good player but a little lightweight for centre of mid. Up front for Town David McGrath too looks a bit lost on his own. Was Barry Ryan injured? Carrick's starting pair are not of the calibre of previous years either and not up to the top level.
So really a poor weekend for the 'neighbours' - Carrick will need a bit of a lift to get themselves in the winning mentality for MJC - a relatively favourable run should see them at least reach final to face Pike or Michaels. Town are just concentrating on local trophies now and I suppose wondering what needs to be done to get the team back to a level where they can challenge for the 'big ones' - the manager in fairness took over a sliding ship so he can't take all the blame - what next tho'?

FAI Junior Cup
Ballynanty Rvs v Springfield, 2.00, LIT, R Broe, T Mazur, E Quaide
I was at both games aswel and i can assure you North End will not trouble St Michaels as much as they did Carrick and also Athenry were more than impressive in defece, Im not slating North end one bit, their 1st goal was a great finish but did you not see the rest of the game the where carrick pushed and pushed but couldnt get the break through if half of carrick chances were taken it could of being 7-3 and we didnt play well. NE are goodbunch of lads they had a good few scoops in the pub afterwards and i wouldn't have a bad word to say about them.
Agreed Michaels should get through but to say ye had a rake of chances is pushing it - ye didn't look like scoring (apart from Wayne Fitz shot off bar in first half) until keeper rashly conceded penalty then NE were reduced to 10. After that it was just lumping the ball in from not much beyond half way line and hoping for the best - 1 or 2 at most could have yielded goals. Granted a bit of luck and ye could have got thru but not to be.
As for next weekend - what's yer attitude towards Munster Senior cup - will ye put strongest side out?
Does not matter now but Carrick also hit the post in the second half, JJ has two good oppertunities before he scored. Keith Walsh should have had a pen in the first half and if the ball ran for Carrick in the penalty box they would have scored at least two in the opening half. Also photographs of the incident that lead to the North End pen clearly show the ref got it badly wrong. Michaels will eat them alive next day.
Any odds on next weekends games out there?

Is that Springfield at 7-1 against Balla? This game is on sunday.
Ballynanty are playin Springfeild on sunday. And yes they are the right odds. Best of luck to balla on sunday.
Best of luck to the Balla boys in the FAI...
Balla won 3-1.
carrick rovers 3 - New Ross 4 per aertel
Carrick Rovers 3-4 New Ross Celtic.
All goals in second half. Carrick led 1-0 and then 2-1 with 17 minutes to go. New Ross then scored 3 in 10 mins before Rovers got one back with 5 mins left and could have equalised especially in the last minute with a couple of corners being cleared off the line. A cracking game ended in disappointment for Rovers but a decent run overall! Well done to New Ross Celtic and the best of luck for the rest of it!
Anyone got a match report for Balla match?
