Yeah I know. Being Irish is'nt technically a race but whatever. I am dissapointed in the Scots however. The only Scots I know are the guys in Trainspotting, some of which turned out to be from here and not Scots at all, and the guy from star trek, who's ashes were launched into space. Whenever I visit Ireland I ask my cousins if they want to go to Scotland, and they have good jobs and travel all over the world, and are in their 40s, and none of them have ever even been to Scotland. Ewan McGreagor says they were colonized by *******. Oh, and I was surprised to learn Annie Lennox was Scottish, I like her. Also, Axl Rose used to wear a cute little Scottish skirt on stage but he is crazy so who knows what the deal is. Scots. Please.
Two well taken goals by McCarthy.
The Gerrard comparisons would seem to be spot on at this stage.
He's playing a similar role (behind the main striker), and looked quite a player this weekend.
Did some nice set-ups as well which better teammates might have taken advantage of.
Hamilton won't be selling McCarthy in January, according to this: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/footbal...6908-20996093/
I'd be quite happy to see him there for the rest of the season, and next season as well if they stay up
Ya I read that alrite. Also in http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...686529,00.html
To be honest I would love to see him moving on in January. I feel at 18 and with nearly 80 appearances under his belt with Hamilton, it's time to move his development onto the next level. I also feel that Hamilton will sell if the price is right because McCarthy's stock will be very high in Jan (considering his current form) and could be risky to wait until they get relegated in the summer (when McCarthys stock mighnt be as high) and are forced to start selling players on the cheap to balance the books. It is inevitable that he going to move clubs, the only question is will it be in January or next summer
Can someone change his name from Jamie to James in the thread title?
Considering the level of abuse he regularly gets in Scotland, i would like to see him leave Scotland when he finally moves and not join Celtic for example.
according to sky sports news middlesbrough have made an enquiry for him
Man of the match in their match against Dundee United yesterday
Sunday Herald
man of the match. In James McCarthy, they had a young man who rose to the occasion rather than the bait. United supporters had taunted him with "why don't you go home" chants - alluding to the fact he has chosen to play for the Republic of Ireland rather than Scotland - and those drew retaliatory, supportive songs from the Accies fans. It gave the atmosphere an edge, yet the 18-year-old serenely played on throughout the din and then made the goal which turned the tie on its head.
"The world's his oyster, he can go to the very top," said his team-mate Rocco Quinn. McCarthy is well used to being singled out by opposition fans and deals with it impassively. "I think that sort of thing spurs him on," said Quinn. "He's not the type of boy who lets that get to him." The United fans had to watch as he emerged as the pivotal player in the game and the one who accelerated their team out of the cup.
Really says alot for the character and single mindedness of the lad to be able to face such abuse at a young age and not let it affect his performances on the pitch
McCarthy named SPL young player of the month today.
Possibly another couple of 'McCarthy's' to wear the green shirt
"I bet you the Irish FA know the grandparentage of every kid playing with every team in Scotland. They do their homework. :)
I hope the Irish consulate in Scotland is not involved in such egregious duties, assisting the FAI with their "roots" research.
Thats true, he takes dog abuse but is dealing with admirably, most recently against Dundee Utd in the cup where he played a blinder by all accounts (think there is an earlier post on it). For that reason alone a move may be worthwhile but for his continued development another year with Hamilton in the SPL would be good for him. Hard matches every week, pressure to get points for survival, playing with dome other good young players such as McArthur. Obviously at some point, fairly soon, he will need to be playing and training with better quality players to improve his own game but at 18 yrs of age I think another season with hamilton would be no harm at all......
