"with all but two of the SSE Airtricity League clubs experiencing growth"
False. Shels, Athlone, Longford, Wexford, Cabinteely are FIVE clubs all conclusively seeing drops in attendances this season, maybe a few others
I do believe there has been an increase in overall attendances across the league mainly because you have a Turner's Cross full most weeks, Limerick & Drogheda replacing Wexford & Longford in the Premier Division and a Waterford with investment and cheap tickets but I'm calling that report from the FAI of 48.8% attendance growth an outright lie and fabrication.
If the FAI and the clubs compulsory published their actual attendances every week we might have some transparency instead of false figures to hide from sponsors how bad things really are and not needing threads on internet forums like this.
Nigel's stats suggest much of the gain is just reversing last year's drops anyway.
You can force clubs to announce official attendances, but you can't force them to announce correct official attendances. They can easily bump the real figure up by a couple of hundred freebies if they want to make the figure sound better. Even in England, attendance figures are often nonsense
Figure given for UCD v Cabo - 302
4,534 at rovers bohs. Thought it was more to be honest but I can't see the gap of segregation between the fans from where I sit so that could explain that
Yeah felt like more but I watched it back on eir later and there was a big gap between bohs fans and the normal humans in the west stand.
Given there is no compulsion to report accurate attendances - and therefore lots of clubs don't - there is simply no way the FAI actually know what the attendances are in the league.
This is classic Trumpian diversion tactics. 'Hey everyone - stop talking about Bray and Athlone, because 2million people are now going to League of Ireland games !"
Desperate and transparent.
There's every incentive. It's that bit easier to sell advertising if you attendances are 10% higher for example. And it's very much done.
There's no VAT issues - season ticket holders are counted whether or not they turn up for example. Then, as I note, you've got the "complementaries"
And anyway, who's counting? If Rovers say their crowd was 4,524 against Bohs (or whatever it was), how do we know it wasn't actually 3,816? What's to stop them just adding on that extra 20% or so?
Attendances and the tracking of attendances are in my top 25 pet peeves about the league.
God help me I'd say I've been in pretty much every ground a half dozen times at this stage, a good few a lot more.
No club in the league gives out accurate attendances. Most over count some under count, every one of them are absolute ******.
Was wondering would I get away with that 😀😀
3,500,000 at Turners Cross tonight to see City defeated 1-0 by a dodgy penalty ref!
Just thought I'd help out with the 48.8%.......increases
it was actually 3,900 ish I think. Great crowd for a Monday, especially as we played at home Friday too.

Thought around 200 myself but I won't argue with that. My first visit there in a good while.
I'd expect Wexford would get much better crowds if they were nearer to the town. Similar problem that Longford have I imagine, which when you think of our paltry crowds and our position close to the town and our league position it makes it all the more baffling.
