I hope Shels go on and win the CL PO or else they will really regret tonight. Probably be against Linfield but they were incredibly wasteful last week in the 1st leg.
That last goal....Shels nicely composed, a little tight but moving it out of trouble until a fearful punt of possession away not even out of the half and then acres of space to run in to before a nothing pass, probably a lucky bounce and slid past the keeper. Very LoI and disappointing in the end, provided hope and then gone in a flash. If it had finished 0-2 you'd have taken it on the chin considering the goals. It was a soft penalty but I do think there was a jersey pull back so still a penalty. Should we be disappointed for being so close against Croat champions? Shels are still a bit green in Europe, need to develop their dark arts more though Rijeka werent too cynical until cramp kicked in.... To miss out on groups would still be a huge missed opportunity considering Shels ability.
Yeah but I doubt they'd be on 1/4 of a mil a year. Only Dundalk would have paid that sort of money.......
Sure breidablik get called part timers on here and they spend 4 million on wages.
Didn't they lose two mill or something last year?
You don't do that paying guys €500 a week
I was generalizing. Mipo and Wood are the only two players that come close to deserving 3 grand a week. Thats insane money for an LOI player.
Exactly. That guy that scored the 30 yarder...he's earning that, easily. At least. Levels.
I suppose if you take the 500 out of your original post then it's spot on
Rijeka are a bigger club than Shels. They won the league and Cup ahead of Dinamo Zagreb. And Shels beat them out there and we're a whisker away from extra time
And yes, Zagreb may have dropped the ball domestically because of Europe, allowing a weaker champion, but then that's how Shels won the league too
Unfortunately as things stand there are both technical ability AND financial ability glass ceilings for LOI clubs in Europe, notwithstanding the fact that there are moments or ties here and there which occasionally show that our teams can hold their own (like Shels winning away in Rijeka, Rovers beating Molde, Pats giving Istanbul a fright). Its too simple to say Rijeka have ten times the resources of Shels and thats the only reason they won, but it goes a long way.
JAck Byrne not in squad for Balkani match due to a "disagreement" with the manager according to the Journal amongst others.
Pity as JAck is a guy who can pick a pass if a team are defending a lead
Hence the 4th highest wages and throwig the kitchen sink at players became the gold standard cause people dont generally know specifics, a total wage bill allows a good guess but other than that its all an in the know guess. Id to sign players cheques many many years ago and I reckon even today the money players were on would be a surprise both high and low and that was a trophy winning side.
Anyway of watching pats game tonight? Can’t see it mentioned for streaming
Will Shamrocks get a crowd of over 5 to 6,000 tonight!
Is the Shams game on TV?
A lot of rotation in tonight’s line up with an eye on Sunday. If we can keep the score somewhat respectable I’d be content enough to move on to a huge cup game v Shels.
Big night for Shams. You'd have to think the Shams can't be as bad as they were last week.
I think the Shams will get over the line, 2-0.
With Pat's tie already done and dusted maybe they could give to co-efficient it's first points a while with a boring 0-0 draw.
I'm minded of our trip to Kosovo last year (lost by one goal in the same stadium in front of about the same crowd)
Came away from it thinking we'd had the better of the chances and we'd take them in the return - instead they upped their game and beat us 3-1 in the Bowl
That has nothing to do with Rovers tonight really - it's just one of those stupid coincidences football fans pay too much attention to
But bottom line - wouldn't underestimate the Kosovans, especially with Rovers having to chase the game
Obviously happenings in the Azores will be of interest too
Crikey - Pat's go ahead in the first minute!
Didn't see that coming.
I presume that'll just annoy Besiktas. But still - for now, why not have a bit of hope?
Great start , I’ll take that. Delighted for Carty.
What the hell is happening in Turkey
Well now. Pats doing v well. Besiktas having most of the ball but haven’t created a clear chance. Pats dangerous when they get into the box and Besiktas looking a bit loose at the back. V interesting match indeed.
Hard to believe what I'm watching. Pats have barely got out of their own half but it doesn't seem like Besiktas know how to defend either.
Fans are booing like crazy now too. Hopefully they hold on till half time and let the pressure build on the home side.
Youtube link if anyone is looking for one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PZQJ9NyIX8
Another mad comeback happening in Denmark. Brondby lost 3-0 to Vikingur Reykjavik last week - this week they're 2-0 up inside an hour, even after having a man sent after 15 minutes.
Ah poo - Besiktas pull one back. That'll settle them now I think.
Besiktas goal had a massive fortuitous deflection. V unlucky for Pats, who are defending manfully.
Deflection in off Joe Redmond. I’d be delighted to go in ahead a HT no matter what.
