I know you're not a cork fan but do they have many defenders signed? They let a few of last year's players go and don't seem to have replaced them? I know there's a jump in standard from FD to pd but you also need bodies especially early in the seasonQuote:

I might be missing some, but from what I can see their currently signed defence is 2 or 3 that were there last year and a new left back signed from the 7th tier in England, supplemented by u20s lads. Looking at their squad at present they’re standing out as my favourites for 10th place. Maguire and Keating up top are obviously good options, but accommodating both into the team will leave the midfield and defence even more open IMO, so a few reliable defensive players are an absolute necessity for them nowQuote:

Yeah a risky strategy having limited defensive options and an unproven GK new to the league. Shels showed the value of having a great defence last year. In the end they scored 1 more goal than Bohs for the season but they won the league and Bohs just about beat having to have a relegation playoff.
Gilly Priosti looks to have signed for Sligo from Longford Town, as he appeared in their friendly against Athlone. Disappointing from a Longford POV, I don't feel he got much of a chance last season. Hope he pushes on at Sligo
Surprised at that, definitely some talent there but wouldn't have him down as a PD player just yet. Work rate could have been better at times when he played for us but training in a FT environment will only kick him on ten fold, Sligo very well could end up unearthing a gem. Why Longford haven't been able to retain him is bizarre unless he had this kind of move lined up a while ago.Quote:

I'm not sold on them being a strong force. Now I'll probably be miles wrong but they have a manager and a number of players who will be adjusting to the league. Every league is unique and we've seen players struggle that should thrive in this league. Added to that the age profile I think it could go very wrong if they don't hit the ground running.Quote:

Some of these Derry signings look like they could be quite encouraging in isolation but when it's all put together it just comes across as the same short term thinking that they've been criticised for previously. Every now and again there's a signing like for example Marc McNulty that a side takes a punt on, who has good pedigree but is on the wrong side of their prime, but in Derry's case they seem to be making a habit out of it.
Elsewhere Jake Mulraney has signed an extension with Pats. He still had a year left on his deal but has added another couple to that now. He flattered to deceive a bit in his first season or so and would have phenomenal moments of quality sprinkled between vast amounts of nothingness, but I don't think there was a better player in the league since Kenny came in.

Have heard of Cailloce but overall know nothing about any of those. So typical UCD signings really.
All made their debuts tonight as we lost 4-1 to Bohs in the LSC. Two goals in the last two minutes for Bohs (plus a missed penalty)
Brian McManus should be a very good signing for the First Division but he comes with the injury/fitness disclaimer, he picked up some seriously unlucky knocks at Shels including in his final game for us getting smashed by our now own John Martin
I believe all 3 of those lads are starting off on scholarships so should be around for the next 4 years.Quote:
