By Pineapple Stu’s own criteria surely this means the LOI is now better than the Greek league surely!

Did Rovers not do it against Limassol
I too couldnt make last nights game due to bank holiday and being back at work but what a result from Bohs. I was at the two previous home ties. Keith Long has his side purring nicely. I saw an article in paper that GAA coach Phillip McMahon is helping them with their preparations. Its obviously doing the trick. I have feeling game will go to ET and maybe penos next week.
Because the real battle facing our league and its supporters isn't against each other - it's against the w@nkers who look down their noses at us whilst proclaiming life-long love for teams in dreary British cities that they have no connection with and would struggle to find on a map.
It's all of us and our league against those sneering arseholes.

Just reviewing your query here and checking my database. LOI sides have progressed 7 times when drawn at home first against a seeded team and failed to qualify 58 times.
Again, this is actually the 9th time in total that this situation has occured.
Perhaps that's true enough!!
So this Teuta crowd tonight appear to be away specialists , won the league in Albania last year with only 7 home wins from 18 match's and losing only 2 away matches in 18.
They backed this form up by losing at home 2 nil to the Andorrans before winning 3 nil away and losing 4 nil at home to Sheriff and only 1 nil away.
So whats a good result tonight??
I watched the matches against Inter and they did look good in patches but i think if we play well we win.
just to be clear, while mine was a pointless investigation, it was simply to see how many teams had won the first leg, not seeing how many progressed when drawn at home.
Thanks boss - would you have the list to hand, be interested to see which ones I missed out unless they were pre 96? I didn't include the Cup winners cup as i didnt have the time.Quote:

Until I saw the weather forecast I thought it would be a bit of a shock if Rovers didnt t win handy enough tonight. But the south east wind and torrential rain will be whistling through the gap in the stands and at the Tallaght end, making it a difficult to control the game.
I am going for a 0-0 draw and Rovers to romp home away next week.
"According to UEFA's club rankings, Vitesse go into this game in 146th position, some 20 places behind the visitors to the GelreDome"
Interesting stat, kinda shows what a bit of experience brings you in Europe, even if it's not an equal measure.
I know that this will probably unleash the wrath of WAR, the guardian of Montrose, but Bradley and Long are bang on about the RTE coverage of the domestic euro campaigns.
RTE are quite happy to starve domestic football of publicity /exposure , grudgingly throw in a few matches and then revel in the consequential low viewing figures. That is a spin and repeat cycle going on for the last few years in particular .
It really is time to forget about RTE coverage , things wont change there, and focus on other providers/ platforms.
Pretty simple, the FAI should make it clear that when negotiations come around that if RTE want to air the Irish national team game they must also air the LOI teams games in Europe.
Would be more honest for them just to drop the coverage completely, than the current sufferance of the problem child.I would think that there are a good few in the FAI who would gladly accept a bag of magic beans never mind 30 pieces of silver to remove domestic coverage from the so-called "package" with RTE.
At the start of this week I was wondering what would be the "expected" outcome co-efficient wise for the week/ties and see how it plays out statistically.
It seems a reasonable expectation from the Rovers tie would be a win and a draw (ie 1.5 for the coefficient)?
From the other 4 games what were we expecting?
2 draws out of 4?
Could we expect/hope for a 1.5 from the 4 games...? (especially now, its simply asking Dundalk to get one draw from their 2 games...)
The FAI don't own those rights, the clubs do, nothing to do with the deal for the League & Cup. Good luck with getting the clubs to bundle their own European rights in with League & Cup rights. Not going to happen.
No offence to to CSAD but this basic lack of understanding of rights feeds into the conspiracy theories about RTÉ showing LOI football (see also manager comments and the post above, not to mention the blatant untruth from joey B below)
So said Delaney when asked what he was doing for LoI, didnt RTE deny it? not that that changes the RTE attitude either. I vaguely recall a snide 'when LoI isnt one man and a dog at games it would be seen differently' in the 90s (pre provinical Heineken Cup involvement) and RTE promptly showed AIL rugby mostly at an empty grounds where the only infrastructure was a rope fence along one side of the pitch. So can see where the opinion of RTE comes from.
I'm pretty sure that JD was asked what he was doing for LoI and his response was that RTE offered money to the FAI not show games but John the Bap stood his ground, refused the additional money and insisted that if RTE wanted international games they had to show domestic games too martyr that he was and all. Now if he had taken the additional cash on offer and still had domestic games covered it might have have been a story worth spinning. Whether it actually happened well who knows with JD - spin 2 or 3 random yarns on one will apply to him tbh. Im less sure on RTE denying it, could have been a retrospective denial but the origins just sounds like bullsh!t, up there with with JD taking point on Blatter out and forcing FIFA to pay up or face legal action (the latter possibly true on form). Didnt it turn out to be a loan from FIFA rather than compensation for not being the 33rd team 2002?
Oh right!! I see now :o

Annoying that, werent uncomfortable - could keeper have done better or good finish. McEleney clipping the crossbar straight after, a goal would have taken some of the sting out of their tendency to play on the break so far. Cant give the ball away cheaply obviously
It's been fairly even in fairness except Dundalk sitting very deep when they have the ball
Dundalk have looked decent on the right. Kelly put in a couple of dangerous crosses.
Much appreciated. Of course the inter-toto, chanced my arm ignoring the cup winners cup (a great competition), and to be fair, all 4 results there are quality.
To put it into context, Ireland has been drawn at home 3 times in play-offs for championships in the first leg, and won once, so perhaps there is a struggle mentally with trying to take the game to higher ranked opponents.
Got lucky there in the last couple of mins, some great last gasp defending. If Dundalk can keep this to 1 goal it will be a good result. Then maybe snatch a draw at home at least good for their and the league's points.
Vitesse do have the feel of a team playing a pre-season friendly which is a bit worrying.
I was going to say it feels generally like a preseason friendly. Dundalk have another gear but Vitesse probably 2 or 3. McMillan has met his match with defenders this evening, commanding in the air, 1st touch flicks well covered. Ball in to space wide looks to be the best opportunity to get something. Lack of pace at the back is hurting us as as soon as possession coughed up we are scrambling and not making up for it with positioning or imposing physically. Its worrying us enough for Abibi to kick it long more often than playing it out. Not pressed high so much as they seem to be able to close very quickly.
Unreal goal!
Has the feel of a preseason goal too :D
Serious poor marking. They became complacent
Another rarity from the head of McEleney - they were showboating a bit, and we looked a bit better with Hoban on. Unexpected but they'll reset, stung by that!
Stupid new away goal rule!!
McEleney. Different class!
What does stus stats say now?
And for the other regulars what is the possession stats? The important stuff
Well well well..........
What a goal! Brilliant.
