hopefully this will be the last time mick has to comment on the matter...
https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2019...ng-to-join-us/
glad mick said this to him....
However while the Irish boss was grateful to finally get a decision from the West Ham midfielder he admits that it was a short conversation.
"Yes. That’s what he said to me. ‘Mick, it was an honour’ and I said ‘hold on, I don’t want to hear that, if you’re not playing for us then crack on, good luck’.
what will happen to this thead? as a former irish senior international, does it remain in this section?
sometimes it pains me to look at it :)
When the conversation dies, I'll move it to the world football section
maybe we could move everything from jbyrnes post at the top of this page over to the Mick McCarthy thread and then move this one. None of this is really all that related to boil in the bag.
The thread is dead, he is not an Irish player, bin it.
Posts like that keep the thread going
It's a thread on the internet; it's hardly worth getting that worked up about, is it?
So long as we discuss the thread not the person it is fine.
The Grealish thread was transferred to World Football when he declared for England. Should this one not go the same way? It pains me seeing it in the Irish Forum - like viewing a festering wound every day.
I was vilified for transferring the Grealish thread when I did, and people still say it should be in this folder
Set up a poll? Give it a week?
I laid out the criteria when he changed his allegiance, it hasn't changed since then.
If you want the thread to be moved, stop posting in it
Hard to know the right approach. It’d be nice if the thread just died off naturally, the Stephen Ireland one was torture, (other than in latter years with the reports of injuries and the decline into obscurity).
Rice togging out for England, singing god save the queen etc will mean the thread could stay alive for a good while yet.
Maybe a boycott, with a forfeit of some kind for posting on it, say you have to try to get a hold of Bamford and/or his dad.
Just move the thread for God’s sake. The 10-15 people who still post in this forum are in favour so, you know, it should be fine.
I don't mind if tets moves it or not, I just wish he'd reach some decision ;)
thread moved, it's someone else's problem now
I'm pretty disappointed that Tets has been badgered, harangued, and cajoled into moving the Rice from one field to another. It's a rainy day for foot, and all the turmoil that's bubbling away under the surface isnt going to make the Rice situation anymore palatable. I suggest that it's moved back to the Ireland forum, and allowed to drain away until the situation has dried out.
Plastic paddy field. And that's my last word on this.
Rice's switch has been approved by FIFA. I'd like to know the exact timeline here because, on the face of it, the process seems to have been completed quite quickly...and it poses an obvious question re Daniel Crowley.
Just when you thought this whole thing couldn't get any worse - the FAI announce Rice is to be awarded 'young player of the year'.
What are they playing at??
Is it possible to second one's own proposal on this forum?
Oh sweet Jesus the final humiliation is complete

Jesus, so easy to avoid this, just announce whoever came 2nd in the voting. There was absolutely no need to even bring this up at all. Amateur hour.
He will probably be named in his first English squad tomorrow and get an FAI award in the same week. The FAI really are a bunch of dimwits.
I'd have a degree of sympathy for the FAI on this one.
The award is voted on by the soccer writers association of Ireland, not the FAI. Refuse to award it to him, or cancel the award, and every headline in the morning is "FAI refuse to honour soccer writer's decision". Award it to the second placed player (say Obafemi) and the player knows he's won it more or less by default.
It shows the love we had for him. When the English media turn on the England team, he can reflect on how nice we are.
The FAI could have just said nothing and given it to whoever finished second. Save them some embarrassment and I'm sure Rice doesn't want the publicity either.
Lads who would you give the award to then?? 2018 was such a NON-EVENT! for the Irish senior mens team. Looking forward to goal of the year because there were only FOUR goals in calendar year I think!? As for senior mens player of the year....
Best to exclude the senior team altogether this year perhaps and focus on awarding other groups, it is about diversity afterall:applause:
