2.225 was the official attendances for Bohs v Drogs. (According to the Drogheda Indo) Sorry I'm late with this. I was away for a few days.:o
Where'd you get that?
Cheers. We have 1750 from here. Have Bohs stopped putting official attendances in their match programme?
i'd say about 120 at the monaghan longford game last week
500-600 at Galway-Derry
230 at UCD-Fungus.
GUFC must be wondering what they have to do to attract good crowds. The team is performing beyond expectations and playing good football with a fair few local players. The matches are pretty well promoted also.
It's especially baffling when you consider that their crowds were decent in previous seasons when fighting relegation.
I guess the fact that last night's crowd was so poor was partly accountable to the Thursday night kick off and the free counter-attractions on at the Yacht Race though.
There seems to be an excuse for every bad attendance we get. Simple fact is Galway sports people are terrible
What are Mervue's attendances like?
At a wild guess, I'd say the thread here could reveal all.
Post #844 on the last page could be a good starting point.
Just a figure for comparison on attendances.
Last night the CCFL Senior Division League decider was held in Athlone Town Stadium between two local teams St Peters FC and Willow Park. The attendance was 1350 with over 400 paying in. Under 14s were free.
These two teams throughout their season have averaged close on 300 at their home games throughout final 6 weeks of their season.
Mervue have got crowds of around 200, with the first game against Athlone fetching 600, and the Longford match about 150
Interesting stuff alright.
It suggests that the problem in Ireland isn't an unwilingness to watch football (which we all knew anyway), and isn't necessarily a fascionation with shiny foreign football that's considered better. It does back-up the belief of Irish fans as 'big game hunters' - onyl interested in live football when there's something at stake, though given the level of the games you would struggle to argue that point too vociferously.
Instead - I suspect those clubs have extremely strong roots into their local commuinities, which will always pay dividends when you're up for something.
Conversely - how many of our clubs genuinely have strong roots within and throughout their local communities ? If we're being completely honest, not many.
781 announced tonight at Shelbourne-Monaghan match.
5388 the gate for Cork-Bohs. Best of the loi season.
1500 my best guess for Pat's-Bray.
open to official correction but i counted 125 at the Mervue Limerick hoof fest this evening. 60 from Limerick
100 at Town - Harps.
Town committee member had it as 220 tonight, he seemed quite definite, complete crap either way.
People in Longford don't seem to get the concept of short term pain for long term gain. A large amount of debt which had been built up over the years has been paid back in the past three years but because that means a crap team on the field, after a few defeats each year the general population loses interest. Ho hum. Another year or two we'll be upwardly mobile again hopefully.
Is that the Cork people coming out to help ease the financial situation or is it because Bohs are the best team in the league?
Either way impressive and if it's to help ease the financial situation fair play to the Cork supporters. You could end up with the biggest average seen in Irish football north and south of the border for quite some time.
It's because we were top of the league and playing the team in second.
We're well capable of getting those crowds for 'big games' but havnt had very many of them in recent times. For example, we almost always got over 5000 when we played Shels.
If wed won, we'd have gotten the same of higher next weekend, but because we lost and were appalling that will be halved.
Around 3,000 at Rovers - Drogheda last night. Not sure if they sold all the tickets but must have gone fairly close.
I got to the game about 7mins after kick-off (seriously underestaimted how long the Luas journey takes !). About 5mins later I saw the guy with the money box being escorted through the stand, so I must have been one of the last tickets bought. The book that I bought my ticket from was about three-quarters full when I bought mine (I'd guess 40 or so left in it ?), but I've no idea if there were any other books left.
I'd therefore guess about 3,000 as well, as there weren't many empty seats around.
Very impressed with the stadium - will be great when the second stand goes in. Plus the shop is very professional.
615 at Waterford v Wexford.
Again, that's the paid in figure only, ca 750 there in total, with the season ticket holders included.
90 or so at Kildare County vs Athlone Town.
About 30 of them from Athlone
